Attended a Sushi 101 class and had a really great time. We had two chefs who described the ingredients we would use, how to use them, and where to buy them. They had prepare miso soup, kimchi, and edamame for for some pre sushi bites and sold beer and wine for those who wanted it. My boyfriend looooves sushi, so what better Christmas present than a Sushi 101 class?! Of course, once I had the idea it occurred to me that it would be weird to send him alone, so last night we embarked on sushi adventure for two! We learned a delicious twist on edamame, what goes into miso soup, and how to cook sushi rice (not as straightforward as you think), then actually made our own maki and uramaki! Translation: Hand rolls with nori (seaweed) on the outside and inside-out rolls with rice on the outside. They also prepared tempura vegetables and gave us the secret to achieving that delicious light breading! Notes on the experience? For the sushi lover in your life, this is a MUST DO! I can't believe how lucky we are to have this talented team of culinary artists right here in Lexington! A sushi fanatic I am not, therefore I was (one of) the high-maintenance one(s) for whom they so kindly seared the tuna and salmon, but for that reason I would absolutely recommend it to ANYONE who enjoys sushi, even in a limited capacity! You get to keep your sushi paddle, mat, and chopsticks. They have beer and wine available for purchase, but you can also BYOB. In addition to the kitchen and seating areas there is a little retail section where you can shop, and they offer a wide variety of public classes, private classes, catering, events, and workshops year round. I found myself here, attending a murder mystery dinner, performed by The Bluegrass Mystery Theatre. The food was prepared right in front of us by chef Allison and her crew. Don't tell the actors, but I had just as much fun watching them prepare the meal, than I did watching the show. I arrived early and chatted a bit with the chef/owner and her husband and then the dinner was perfectly timed with the show. Everything from the table settings, to the aesthetics of the kitchen, was perfect. I need to start watching the calandar on the web site, to try to make it out to one of the cooking classes that they offer. After all, that would be motivation to use my own kitchen. The chefs accept questions about how to prepare dishes at home and discuss wine pairings with each course. We were excited to try this breakfast place because it states they allow dogs! We drove over and walked up to the front desk. After waiting for quite a while to be greeted (actually had a woman see there was a line, turn around and walk away), they said the patio was closed and no dogs inside. read more

Chef Allison is great! This is a great place for a group of friends or family. They have a variety of classes from just watching and learning to hands on lessons. Where to begin? We enrolled our daughter into one of their cooking classes. Took her to the first class on a Monday morning. Got a call about an hour and a half later telling me that she was sitting down crying asking me to come get her. I went there immediately and they then told me that she had fallen down. That she had locked her knees or something. We were preparing to move so it could have been fatigue or stress. Our daughter said that she basically stood there watching others cook and no one encouraged her to join in. What? So the next day we let her rest and I called and left a voicemail asking Wild Thyme to call me. I wanted to explain to them that she was going to stay home that day and rest. On Wednesday they were supposed to go on a field trip somewhere a 15 minute drive away and Wild Thyme said they would call and let us know where to meet. We never received a call back or any instructions about the field trip. I called again, then a third time and after no response to any of my calls I emailed to ask for a refund. To this day I have not received a call or email from Wild Thyme. They gained over $300 from us for a little over an hour of cooking instruction. Definitely would not recommend. read more

We went tonight for the Hands On Sushi 101. It was fantastic! The food we made was fabulous, we had tons of great tips for how to make it at home and left we the tools we needed. My husband and I had a great time getting to know the other participants and eating so much food. Seriously, miso soup, edamame, salmon, tuna, octopus, white tuna and octopus. Not to.mention the fabulous yum yum sauce and tempura veggies. A fantastic night put and worth a trip back any time. read more

I was very excited about taking my friend to this class for her birthday; she is a super foodie! But after taking the class I was incredibly disappointed. There were way too many people there, about 35. No way to get any personal time with the chef. Witnessed lots of food safety concerns: people were running their fingers thru their hair, taking pictures on their phones, sipping wine, and snacking on the food to be eaten, all while cooking. Everything that managed to last the preparation, was placed into the middle of the table family style, and we ate small portions of cold food. Several different dishes prepared, but my friend and I ended up making tartar sauce, and eating over a very questionable meal. Did not have an enjoyable experience, and doubt I would ever return. read more

Next, we learned four or five new recipes and cooked each one. What a great way to learn by doing it ourselves while Chef Allison was close by if we had any questions. A++ Went here for the cooking with bourbon demonstration and had a wonderful and memorable time. Was able to get some great tips and enjoyed a signature cocktail. We also had a 4 course meal that infused local bourbon into each dish. The food was well thought out and perfect, very impressed! For those of you that enjoy cooking or eating for that matter this was a fun date night, something out of the box and A fun change than dining out and paying 45$ for an over salted filet. Tip, you are allowed to bring a bottle of wine! Making this offer that much better. They also offer kids birthday party's and have a small boutique with decent prices. I attended the luau grilling cooking class with my boyfriend and it is by far one of my favorite dates we've ever gone on together! The food was some of the best I've ever had, and Allison the owner made the class turn from a cooking class to a special night out. She is so positive and sweet and teaches it herself (along with two other chefs from Sullivan). We did most all of the prep for coconut shrimp and it's chutney, turbo (a white fish) wrapped in a banana leaf, couscous, and smoked pork with bacon. There aren't individual stoves for each person, just individual cutting/prep areas - but that was ok! I think this helped people mingle more since they were taking turns doing jobs and it also allowed for a little time to relax. I'm sure the class can be dependent on if the rest of the people there are talkative or not, but if they are it really makes it even more fun. My favorite part was that Allison explained why she used certain ingredients (such as coconut oil over olive oil) and used organic products. This helped feed my nutrition-loving-dork side and I also learned a lot! it was also nice to get to sit at the long table and talk amongst others while eating what we cooked. Considering the price for the (organic) groceries, the tools used, and the time for 3 chefs- I'm even pretty happy with the cost (50$) a person. However, I did try to avoid the more expensive classes just because i was paying for me and a date and didn't want to empty the wallet completely. Hoping to try another class soon! read more

My wife an I help a Sesame Street cooking here for my 3 year old. The venue I thought was a little too "grown up" for his party BUT it worked out perfectly. Allison (the owner) and one of her employees prepared 4 appetizers for the adults. The food was great. Tasty no complaints at all. There was a play kitchen in the back that the kids could play when they weren't cooking. After they got tired of playing they had the opportunity to make fruit kabobs, pizza and Slimy (from the sesame street) cookies. They staff at Wild Thyme was great with the kids. Very patient and willing to help any kid at any time. As far as setting up the event it was very easy and it wasn't very expensive to reserve. We would definitely recommend holding an event here. We ate there with a large group (50) and we loved it. Fresh and flavorful would describe the food and friendly would describe most of the staff. The owner, Allison (sp?) was a delight and our waiter was a star. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 rating was the lack of A/C. Everybody at our table was uncomfortably hot. The idea is great having the cooking right there where you dine, but definitely need to invest in larger A/C unit to compensate in the steamy KY summer evenings. We took a Saturday morning chocolate cooking class as part of a Girls Weekend in Lexington. Ruthie was a great instructor-- very knowledgeable and personable, and gave us the right balance of guidance/ letting us discover things on our own. Facilities were very clean and organized. And we got to take home the fruits of our labor! Would definitely visit Wild Thyme again if we end up in Lexington for another Girls Weekend. read more
