The past three times that I've eaten at the Harrodsburg Rd location, I've ordered the exact same thing; naked pulled pork Sammy with potato salad and a drink and all three times the pork was barely chopped and there were large hunks of fat. The potato salad has always been top notch at this location but it has lacked flavor. The other two locations are on point so I'm not sure why the Harrodsburg Rd location has "slipped". Service was friendly and prompt as usual and the store was very clean but that's the extent of it. I know that yall can do better. If this store was the only one in Lexington then I would have given 3 stars but that wouldn't be fair to the other stores. read more

Pastrami is delicious and the potato salad as well. The brisket was good not warm enough oh. Pulled pork wasn't great for fatty and cold I actually feed it to a stray cat she enjoyed it. My wife loved the turkey and chicken breast, fries and hush puppies. We both enjoyed the grilled Texas toast. Line moves very quickly and the cashier was very nice. I love you get your own sauce and pickles the low country sauce was good it's a Carolina sauce it was my favorite. Definitely be back for more try sausage next time. read more

I have stopped at this location a few times because this is the last vestige for food before getting on 75. I purchased a sandwich to go on one occasion and just yesterday ate inside. I ordered a half rack of ribs for a stunningly high price. All sides are ala carte so nothing is included. I ordered the potato salad. The ribs came with an unappetizing piece of bread that somehow tasted sweet. I was pretty disappointed in the ribs. They were extremely dry and the 5 small ribs did not live up to the price tag. The potato salad was also sweet lacking the southern tang that is essential, IMO. The pulled pork sandwich came with a generous portion of meat. I could only eat half of the sandwich mostly because it was super rich in flavor. The biggest concern for me was the presence of fruit flies in the dinning room. Fruit flies indicate rot in the vicinity and that is something no restaurant should have. I didn't care for the line ordering. If I am spending $25 on lunch, a wait staff would be appreciated. The other staff members stand around looking gloomy and no one smiles or speaks. I will say that the order takers have been nice and friendly. The interior is very casual & kid friendly. Lots of dessert choices but I don't do dessert. Overall, I feel like this restaurant is overpriced for what you get, plus being all self service. I see lots of "workers" there and it rings true that this is the kind of place that laborers who make a very good living and don't mind going in to a restaurant in their dirty duds would feel very comfortable in this restaurant. read more

I go to both locations and I'm honestly pleasantly surprised every time. It's seriously under rated. The decor is warm, welcoming, and reminiscent of a smokehouse, with some Kentucky flair. The staff is always so friendly, welcoming us when we come in, while we checkout, in the dining area, and on the way out. The lemonade is always good. The sauces are to die for, swine wine, brushfire, and low country are my favorites. I got the mo cowbell sandwich which was fantastic, my wife loved her pulled pork sandwich. The collard greens were perfect, the corn pudding was southern style (not sweet), and the fried pickles were fresh and delicious. My wife got some chocolate cake and it was amazing, she's from Chicago and says it's the closest thing she's had to Portillos.They have a hero discount, which as a veteran I truly appreciate, as it's become less common since the wars ended. Have eaten at this location as long as they have been here. Used to love it but Noticed a decline in the quality of the food on recent visits. Tonight was the worst. They were out of fries. The quality of my brisket was horrible. The worst I've ever had. It was cold and fatty and the texture was very weird. Serving size was also pathetic in relation to the price. The baked beans were watery, without a trace of brisket. The corn bread was over baked and past its prime. I think this is probably my last visit here. read more

I came here again after I was doing some work in Lexington for my employer, with a coworker and I decided to get the Pastrami Fries. It was not bad. I really did not taste much with them. I decided to get the baked beans and I liked how they threw meat into them. I ended up having water for my drink. We were really disappointed with our curbside pickup this evening. The two pork sandwiches were fine, but the pulled chicken had way, way too much moisture and no flavor. Worst of all was the macaroni and cheese. This used to be a favorite side, but both servings of mac and cheese tonight were awful. There was no cheese on it and it was really dried out and hard. It reminded me of if you try to reheat mac and cheese multiple times and it just gets dried out in the microwave. Tasteless because there really wasn't any cheese, just bare macaroni, and hard and dried out. Sorry, but cannot recommend. read more

I love City BBQ. I've been a fan for many years after first trying them in Columbus with my parents when I was a kid. I was super excited when we got our first location in Lexington several years ago and I love both locations here! I have actually visited several City BBQ locations between Lexington and Cleveland as I travel home often. I have tried pretty much everything on the menu, but I think my favorite is still the pulled pork. It's the best pulled pork I've ever had and it is always consistently good. My favorite sides are the collard greens, vinegar or creamy slaw, gumbo (seasonal!), and today I tried the Brunswick stew and also enjoyed that. The corn pudding is also to die for but I don't usually order it because I'm low carb. I see they have a new bama white sauce fried chicken sandwich and I'm looking forward to trying that soon! Typically I am not on this side of town and I almost always go to the City Barbeque off of Harrodsburg Road. Plus I tend to eat the same thing: brisket, green beans, water and fries. This was a Yelp event that allowed me to try out other food items that I had never tried before. I tried the turkey: which was the best that I've ever had, the chicken and baked beans with lemonade. I tell ya, I am going to have to get the turkey again; because that was really my absolute favorite menu item. Oh and the lemonade....yum yum yum!! I think I need to buy stock in that! Lol. Because of my MANY allergies that I have, I was not able to have the: Mac & cheese (eggs), banana pudding (banana) and egg salad (eggs); but my husband, who was my +1 to this event was able to try them all. He said that typically he doesn't even care for egg salad but that this was the best egg salad he had ever had; and he would be willing to have it again. He also said that the banana pudding was so good that he kept forcing himself to eat it even though he was really full. The City BBQ staff were so helpful, especially since my husband and I came about 30 minutes to 8pm. And even though we did come late and thought that everyone ate everything already, the staff still jumped over leaps and bounds to help us feel special. The staff are always ready to answer questions. They are so helpful. They have about 8 different sauces for your BBQ. And they have convenient to go containers ready for you to fill with your choices. Their brisket is tender with a good smokey bark on it. Their pulled pork is tender without a bunch of gristle or fat. The lunchtime clientele is a bunch of working guys so I feel at home. read more

Let's be real, City BBQ hits every single time. I usually get the Lolo's Pulled Pork. It's always delicious! I also love the corn pudding and mac and cheese. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. Also, the restaurant is always clean. This is nice considering everywhere is understaffed and busy. You know what it's like to try to find a place for a family of 9 to eat late on a Friday night? Difficult! I called all the major chain restaurants and everything was over an hour wait. So we used Yelp to help us find this BBQ place. We walked in 30 minutes before closing and were able to order food for our whole family and were served about 15 minutes later. We ordered a ton of different menu items, beef brisket, ribs, chicken, fries, pork brisket and chicken strips. The beef brisket was great, all of the meat was flavorful and delicious. The only thing I wish was better was the temperature of my pork brisket it was barely lukewarm. I didn't say anything bc we got in so late and they were almost closing. Like, VERY expensive for the amount of food you order. The plates are not big, and you ordered separately. Even the sides and desserts are expensive, kind of crazy. Reminder, the food is good, and we like coming back, but just prepare your wallet. Service is honestly cold/rude, but food comes fast so the interaction with them is THANKFULLY limited. Their pulled pork and brisket are very solid. Ribs are awful, and pulled chicken is kind of bland. The sweet tea is great, and the sauce selection isnt bad at all. The Mac no cheese was creamy and good. I didn't particularly care for the corn pudding as it was a little bready. I prefer a corn pudding made with a custard base.
