Put a Bird on It!…read more This is the place to come for your Portlandia fix, if you are into birds, or if you are a fan of the quirky and fantastic art of letterpress. I love it that you can hear the clickity clack of the presses from the minute you walk in, because they actually are conducting printing while you are in the store. The cards, stationary and wall prints (either suitable for framing, or in some cases, sold in frames) are artful, odd, and whimsical. I suspect that many people who don't know Lark Press stumble in during their two hour weekend wait for brunch mecca, Tasty n Sons. On the other hand, those epic waits provide great exposure to a reemerging art form that's taking off in Portlandia, and all over the Pacific NW.

They primarily carry ceramics from a couple local…read moremakers, as well as small goodies such as chocolate, jewelry, knits, etc. I stopped in while wandering down Montavilla's main strip. Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming without being pushy. The main ceramic artist is JaMPDX and their pottery is super cute and often involve little critters, fruit baskets, swirly designs, pastel colors. A few of the other artists who use the shop are more edgy or masculine. I believe they all make the ceramics in the back of this very store. It is all worth looking at and admiring and considering buying for yourself or as a gift! Support living artists!

As someone from NorCal, I love going to Miniso and looking at the various blind boxes. Recently, I have been looking specifically for the Petty Dust dinosaur figurines and was so happy when this location still had a few. Each Petty Dust dinosaur "eats" a specific negative emotion, and even if you don't believe in little figurines helping you emotionally regulate, the tiny dinosaurs are super fuzzy and cute. I ended up getting two Petty Dust dinos at this location, and although I got two of the same dino (Pang), I didn't mind at all. This Miniso closes at 21:00, which was great for us, since we had a late-ish dinner that evening. It's quite spacious inside and there are plenty of aisles neatly stocked with products ranging from stationery to makeup. There's plenty of parking and I wish we had the time to return to this Miniso location during our anniversary trip, but alas. Looks like it's just an excuse for us to return sometime in the near future. We will be back.

I was lucky enough to be able to visit this home for its Fall 2013 open house and was taken aback by the serenity of the property where the pottery is created - the large floral gardens and happy, zen-like dogs are symptomatic of a special place among "just another" residential neighborhood in outer SE Portland. The pottery is high quality work that is made and ships with care and durability - a wonderful addition for any home. More importantly, this is such a warm environment with warm, considerate people working together within it. It's no wonder the art that is produced there is of such interest to people all over the country, and even the world. A little piece of LoneSomeVille finds its way into the clay of every piece.
