Handcrafted Items

What a beautiful shop! My friend and I visited Carter & Rose, as we were drawn in by the window display. It's always those damn window displays with fun and cute artwork that tempts me in. It's a small art and gift shop in the SE neighborhood of Portland, but there's a ton of great small items here that's worth checking out. I loved the wall of hanging ceramic vases with succulents! It's something you'd see on Pinterest. All of the items here are handcrafted, really celebrating local artists. I love that. Items ranged from home accessories, to bath and body products, to quirky cards and notepads and more. Although we came in here to shop, I did notice they host art classes here. How cool is that? Staff was also very friendly here, and was knowledgeable about the items for sale. I'd visit again when in the area.

I think this place is so unique and special and why Portland is such a great and glorious place of artisans and creators and makers. I have purchased probably 100 of these snakes because they make a deal gifts to friends. They are kind of all over my house on my walls in my plants surrounding my crystals. They are joyful they are protective. They are unique I have them in all the different colors and shapes and I'm obsessed.

Carter & Rose is one of my favorite shops in PDX. They're in a great location, the shop has a cheerful and warm vibe, and every employee is incredibly nice, helpful, and enthusiastic, but also super chill and casual at the same time. Where did they find these gals? They're fabulous! The shop itself has a dreamy variety of air plants, succulents, and lovely house-made ceramics...I own a gorgeous wall sconce on a round slab of wood from C & R. And they sell an impressive array of mostly local goods: pretty jewelry, intoxicating bath and body, and many other crafty handmade items perfect for gift giving (including yourself! ). The other really cool thing about this spot is how they offer weekly open-clay sessions! I recently brought some family visiting from out of town and it was such a memorable way to spend an hour or two, creating cool ceramic projects together. Many locals come and work on projects regularly and I can totally see myself coming back with a few friends soon. You create an item, paint it, and then come back in 1-2 weeks to pick it up after it has been fired in a kiln. I read they can ship your projects to you as well. So happy this place exists. It's an important part of what makes Portland so cool and unique. #supportlocal

This place is so fucking pretty ! Really unique handmade snake ornaments and a great collection of candles. I would go again just for the vibes. Think natural light shining through wall plants all over

What an amazing little art shop! Unexpectedly awesome. Usually little shops like this just carry lame gift-like things, but this spot is thoughtfully curated. Certainly pricey but it's all high quality local art that I'm more than happy to shell out for. And the staff is so personable! Not the odd pretentious shopkeep, but someone you can actually talk to. Check it out!

I've been slowly making my rounds to the many new yarn shops since we moved here last summer. I've…read moredriven past Fiber Rhythm several times, but have been waiting to check it out with my daughter. I was excited to FINALLY get an opportunity to stop in during our mom-and-daughter Galentine's Day adventure. There was one person working there, and they were so sweet, friendly, and helpful. That alone would bring me back again and again. Secondly, the space is airy, well-lit, and delightfully organized, which is very conducive to knowing exactly where to get what you need and also lends itself to relaxed meandering when you don't have a specific need, BUT as all yarn-crafters know, the yarn will let you know you need them. I don't make the rules. There's a fabulous selection of premium, affordable basics, natural, and synthetic fibers. The knitting needles and crochet hooks are behind the counter, so you will have to be intentional here. In places where I don't necessarily need any tools but see one, I tend to buy it. (Please respect my privacy on how many size 6 16" circulars I have purchased.) So, in this regard, Fiber Rhythm is saving me (and my pocketbook) from myself! In addition, there are dyes, several kits, and a winder to self-wind your purchases. To be honest, there was much, much more, but I had parked in a spot where I had to move by 4:00 pm, and we got there at 3:49 pm. This was a literal "speed run" through a yarn store. I look forward to visiting again when the parking godz don't require haste.

Such a beautiful selection of materials (I found the yarn I was looking for but they carry all…read moresorts of fiber related items). Staff was friendly and the space was welcoming and bright. Highly recommend!
