Great studio in the NE Alberta district. The shop is not that big, so don't expect to come with a huge group of people without making prior arrangements. I think they have 2 six persons table and only 3 two persons table. Not a huge space so be prepared! They have a good selection of pieces to choose from, such as plates to cups, piggy banks to flower pots. It just sort of depends what they have in stock. Pricing is also not bad comparing to market prices. There is a 10% check in offer on Yelp, so don't forget to use that! I took a star away because of the space limitation, I feel like the access to colors are also limited. Also, I didn't receive a call for pick up when the pieces are ready - which is not a big deal because it's my responsibility to remember to pick up, but I've been to places where they will provide that gentle reminder that I appreciated. I have been to another "chain" paint your own pottery in the Phoenix (AZ) area and it's nothing like that. Here, the price that you pay for the dish includes everything: the dish, studio time, use of equipment, firing, etc. It's a little small so I would recommend calling ahead. The service is great, they'll show you how to do stuff if you don't know how. I can't draw a stick figure and I made a beautiful bowl that I use on a regular basis. I can't speak for the quality of the firing (I'm sure there's some technique behind it. I'm not a ceramics artist so I wouldn't know), but I can tell you that I piece I made 6 months ago is still find with usage and hand washing. Big plus: you can bring your own wine while you're painting. Just make sure you bring your own corkscrew and glasses as well :) We made the people next to us green with envy. read more

However, the AC made an awful high pitched noise that was impossible to ignore. The options were limited and fairly expensive. The cheapest thing was a blank 3x3 tile for $5-$10 while mugs and plates were closer to $20-$30. While the staff was so sweet and helpful with painting, the place was so small and hot, I'd choose a different place. read more

I took my girl friend here for our one-year anniversary. We were a walk in and accommodated us promptly and friendly. They communicated the pricing, painting and baking processes clearly, letting us know what exactly what we were getting for our money. We had a splendid date! A day after painting, they contacted us immediately about a baking concern (that the mug my girl friend painted may or may not crack). They said we would get a refund if it cracked but they would also strive to try and fix it for us. It ended out coming out chipped, but they gave us instructions for some "at-home" fixes if we wanted. They reimbursed us IN FULL for the mug; we weren't expecting that! I will say this isn't the place to go for a serious art project. I tried to do this last time - I picked out a coffee mug and tried to really do a great job for a friend in the hospital (usually I just have fun with it, get paint everywhere, laugh a lot) - this time I really wanted to do an amazing job, but between the loud music and the employee eating fast food and crumpling up her wrappers 2 feet from me right when I was painting a delicate part - And to the other employee unpacking boxes on the other side of me - I realized that this isn't probably the place to go for an oh-so-serious project. Went on a Monday morning (11 am) with a friend. We were pretty much the only ones there and the place was blessedly a/c cooled. The selection of pottery pieces is really diverse in shapes and in prices. I went for a mug (they have various styles and the prices range all over. The one I picked was $28) and my buddy chose a cat figurine. We were both tired, but after a while we kind of found our zen working on our little projects. We just spent the afternoon painting a small ceramic unicorn a shade called Deep Purple. When it's Spring Break and practically snowing outside and a sharp stick in the eye sounds better than facing the OMSI shuttle bus hordes, Mimosa Studios is a brilliant low-key way to get out of house with small child for a bit of cheap fun. The studio is cute and clean, the woman working there was helpful and child-friendly, and 12 bucks bought us an hour of paint time and aforementioned purple unicorn.
