I'm not sure why it's taking me years to do this review however I've been going to seafood city…read moresupermarket since they opened this Chicago location years ago. When it first opened, it was great to see how bright and clean it was and to see all of the incredible stacked foods and items. However, over the years it's definitely been worn down a little bit and could use a new refresh. What has been good is that they really expanded some of the seating area as well as the seafood city Grill area and the food offerings. However even this is slightly inconsistent as far as what's available when it's open, etc. It's also great that this particular location also is able to build out some of the other additional vendors like the bakery by Valerio. Again, though, I wish there was a little bit more consistency and organization throughout. Parking lot is has been quite ample except during peak times. I really wish they would open one in the suburbs as well. The only major disappointing thing was I used to carry the best Chicharron by Saint Michaels and then they absolutely abused and price gouged the bags. And eventually they stopped carrying it. I however, have gone directly to the stores to purchase.

I've been coming here for a while - off and on - and now that I live in Milwaukee, it's even less…read more When it comes to groceries, I have always found what I needed and more. The store is well-organized and clean. As for the grill, I feel like they need to figure things out. On a recent visit, I ordered the pork skewers and the pancit palabok. The pork skewers taste better and are less fatty than before, however, the pieces are much smaller and the price for 4 is $16!!! Huh? These better be organic, happy pigs for that price! The palabok was OK, a little bland. They put a few shrimp in and a couple pieces of hard boiled egg in after putting it in the container which made me feel like they have really done some cost cutting measures. Honestly, I think the call is to eat next door at Max's and then grocery shop. I stopped at the bakery shop conveniently located on my way out and bought pandesal and ensaymda. But I'm guessing that's for a different review! Overall, this place is great for my Filipino staples, not for a eating a meal (unless you don't mind spending $$$).

I hate knocking a small business but it's really hard to be excited about my experience…read more Pre-ordered a lobster roll and the mussels for 2 (which comes with most things you need). The lobster roll was mostly bread and very little lobster. The lobster in it was very small, stringy pieces and nothing like the large chunks in their own Instagram images. I would be willing to pay more for a better sandwich with more (and better) lobster. It wasn't premium lobster in look or taste to be honest. This sandwich, in its current form, is a hard pass. Mussels were okay. A few that didn't open, but that's to be expected. I'm not sure how fresh they were since they had a bit of a fishier scent. They give you a head of garlic, a lemon, a baguette and a tub of compound butter. It's great in theory, but the butter was tasteless and I could just as easily used my own butter and other ingredients. The customer service was okay. We called ahead to make sure they had all of the elements of the mussels as part of the package and the person ringing me up still had no idea what I was talking about. In the end she made sure everything was there after I brought it up so it was fine. One other issue I had was that they just put the mussel mesh bag in my bag and they leaked mussel juice/water over everything else in the bag. Two of those things were tinned fish gifts for someone else and the cardboard was soaked in fishy smelling liquid. I know there is a new owner and I really hope he does the things he needs to improve and make this place worth it. Right now I can't see going back when there are places like Boston Fish Market that get it right.

We often go there for all there fresh products although we live in West Rogers Park things have…read morechanged a little bit bit inside store but its still the same great product everything is always fresh & a great price its worth the travel .

El Mercado Meat Mart is my number one spot for empanadas…read more I used to live in the area so I walked past this market so many times before I finally stumbled inside. I noticed they had a variety of empanadas and decided to try one, I was hooked ever since! I haven't actually shopped at the market but they seem to have a lot of niche items along with the basics. The staff is always friendly whenever visited. I've tried a variety of empanadas around the city but El Mercado reminds me the most of the homemade ones I used to make in college. They don't hold back on the protein and the empanadas always taste fresh. Admittedly the empanadas can add up. They're nearly $4 for each which is pricey so I only visit once in a while when I'm in the area. The empanadas are delicious so I highly recommend trying at least one. My favorite is the pepperoni and cheese as well as the ham and cheese. The pepperoni and cheese empanada is very cheesy so I pair it with a beef / chicken empanada because they don't come with cheese so they balance each other out.

The front counter was filled rice balls, empanadas, and desserts. The woman at the front was very friendly and welcoming and helped us choose what we wanted to try. We landed on a sweet beef rice ball and a baked beef empanada. You could tell both were extremely fresh. This was my first rice ball like this and it was absolutely delicious! Full of flavor and packed with filling. Just one of these alone is almost like a handheld meal to fill you up. The baked empanada was also very good, but I have also never had an empanada that I haven't liked! I will definitely be stopping by again in the future to try other empanada flavors, as well as to try a some of the desserts that looked amazing!
