The roaring fire added ambience; it doesn't happen often in south Florida but on this "frigid" night the fire was really needed. We started at the bar with a few drinks including the Dr. No, and then moved to our table, we didn't feel rushed at all, it was Saturday night, 8:30 pm and the restaurant was quite full. I always get the wedge salad and I especially like NM's version with avocado and a thick, creamy blue cheese dressing (but not overpowering everything else). Also, their empanadas are renown and we love their chimichurri sauce. I highly recommend them. We also tried the daily pasta which was good. For mains, we really went for it with the 16 oz Ribeye, quite a large serving that we didn't finish and took home with us (see picture). The steak was pretty straight up - just a well-cooked delicious piece of meat. I had heard people rave about the veal chop so I decided to try it and was happy I did; also a rather large piece of meat (bone-in) with melted cheese and a light sauce - probably one of the best veal chops I've had (which we also took home with us). Nicholson Muir does great sides - we got the creamed spinach which was not overly creamy and the truffle fries, thin-style with a nice crunch. For dessert, the bread pudding (with a birthday candle) was very good - the ice cream portion was gone in split seconds. They're all pretty damn good! This go-round, I tried the pastrami sliders which are off the chain! See the photo. They do a lot of Wagyu here. Honestly? I generally don't like places that do a lot of Wagyu. They tend to lean into the fat too much and don't balance their acids in contrast in their dishes. This place is like a perfect teeter totter sitting in the dead middle. The dishes are well thought through. They don't leave you feeling like you ate 10 tons of food. The cases are full of meats that you can take home and cook as well as cheeses that are exotic and interesting wines and beer and exotic sodas. All kinds of special condiments and foodstuffs. Service is excellent! Order at the counter, but they give you great attention! It's a small place. Desserts are so good that it's scary! Japanese Cream Sandos are a unique one! The dining room is clean comfortable, not pretentious. They're playing 80s Ramones tunes and "Cherry Bomb," and other tunes that just make you smile.

We paired our meal with a couple of their specialty soft drinks from Boylan Bottling Company, including the cane cola, which was a great touch. The ambience is intimate and inviting. I really loved the setup. They have a meat cooler on display featuring the meats they use and sell, bottles of wine on the shelves, and a refrigerator stocked with specialty drinks. It is not just a restaurant experience, but also a meat market where you can purchase Wagyu and other specialty meats. The whole place has a charming, little Italian-style decor that makes it feel unique and welcoming. Rosemary took our order, made excellent recommendations, and also came by to clear our table. Her service added a lot to the experience and made us feel well taken care of. This is definitely a do-over for us. I loved the logo, I loved the setting, and most of all, I loved the food. The shop is very clean and the meat is top notch. I don't think I've been to a better butcher shop. The cuts are always incredible and I think fairly priced. This is my go to place for any steak and I have tried just about every grade of steak they sell. The Australian wagyu happens to be my favorite but the gold label is an incredible value as well! I was sad to see how much the deli has changed. The store was dirty and the prepared food didn't look fresh. My neighbor told me she heard one of the new owners passed away. I don't know if this is true. And if that's the case, I am truly sorry for their loss. I'll try this deli again at some point, and I am hoping by then they will have cleaned up the store. They used to have good sausage and peppers and veal stew. Their subs were delicious and my favorite was the chicken salad. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can turn the place around.
