We have been coming to this bird shop for years and have always had a good experience, which makes…read morewhat happened on September 13, 2026, at around 2:00 PM especially disappointing. We brought our two cockatiels in for nail trims. The first bird's trim went fine. Unfortunately, the experience with our second cockatiel was very different. Multiple nails were cut to the point of bleeding, and the bleeding continued even after styptic powder was applied. What concerned us even more was how distracted the two employees appeared to be during the trim. The person doing the nail trimming was new, and the woman holding our bird was also new. While they were handling our cockatiel, they were carrying on a conversation with another customer who was discussing personal issues with her teenage son. From our perspective, their attention did not seem fully focused on our bird during a procedure that requires care and precision. Our cockatiel was shaking heavily afterward and appeared extremely stressed and traumatized. He looked sweaty and was being held in a way that made us very uncomfortable. Watching our bird bleed from multiple nails while he was visibly distressed was heartbreaking. We were also told that we should have requested filing instead of trimming because his veins were too close to the quick. If that was a concern, we feel it should have been identified and discussed before proceeding with the trim, not after multiple nails had already been cut and were bleeding. What was most disappointing was that we did not receive an apology or what felt like an appropriate acknowledgment of what had happened. The employee did offer to only charge us for one bird and ultimately charged us $10, which we appreciated, but that did not change the experience. We were also told that if our cockatiel did not get better, we could bring him back the next day. Honestly, after what happened, why would we bring him back? If our bird does not recover from this experience, our next step would be taking him to an avian veterinarian. To give an update of my boy, he's been very exhausted. He's barely eating! We understand that accidents can happen, but our birds are family to us. We trusted this shop because we have been coming here for years, and this experience seriously damaged that trust. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this shop for nail trims based on our experience.

One of the things that impressed me most was seeing their second-chance birds. They weren't just sitting nervously in cages -- they were comfortably perched on their own branches, relaxed, curious, and clearly at ease in their environment. You can tell these birds are genuinely cared for, socialized, and treated as individuals while they wait for the right homes. I spent at least half an hour talking with one of the associates about caring for a Green-cheeked Conure I am rescuing elsewhere. I never felt rushed, and they answered so many questions that I left feeling much more confident about bringing him home. More importantly, I now know I have somewhere I can come for advice, supplies, and ongoing care in addition to his avian veterinarian. They have just about anything you could need for your birds, and I found their prices more than fair. They also offer services including nail and wing grooming, bathing, and boarding, which is incredibly convenient. I take pet ownership very seriously, no matter what kind of animal I bring into my home, so seeing the level of knowledge, care, and respect Parrotopia has for these birds meant a lot to me. I didn't rescue my bird through them, but they have absolutely earned my business for his supplies and future care. It really feels like they don't just want to sell you a bird or supplies -- they want both you and your bird to succeed together. That is exactly the kind of business I want to support.

My girlfriend actually came across this located, after visiting for the first time, several other birds stores in the Sacramento area. After she decided to took into getting a hand raised Conure for their house, and after talking to various staff at the other locations. Had settled on getting a Green Cheek Conure; more specially a "Pineapple" color variation. The main staff here are very friendly, knowledgeable, and caring when it comes to the birds they own. As soon as we walked in we saw some many individual birds out of their cages, and saw staff holding the baby birds and socializing them other staff and customers. Along with the wide variety of birds here, Parrotopia also has a wide selection of bird related items, like perches, toys, treats and food. We were greeted by the friendly lady staffing the store and refreshingly-cold AC as soon as we stepped inside. The store was very neatly stocked, which is always so satisfying to behold. It was spacious inside, with various feeder types available, including their patented Advanced Pole System. Even though each store is a franchise, this store still had most of the selection of seed that I was familiar with from the Arden location. It was interesting to note (after chatting with the owner of the Roseville store) that the stores do not share databases with each other, so my rewards at one store do not transfer to other branches of Wild Birds Unlimited. However, since I am a member of the Daily Savings Club, I still can save 15% on all food purchased at any WBU location. Regardless, this location was very clean, well-kept, and I am always happy to support a franchise that sells top-tier bird seed and feeders for my feathered friends. On an average once a week we place carrots and apples inside only to find out them dry up by the end of the month they stay at room temperature in our home and yet most of them are dry. I called the owner a few days ago, and I told him my dilemma because I was fed up after a year of dealing with dried up mealworms. He said he always lays them out in newspaper, which is false because I've encounter his Customer Service and he's OK although he's never laid him out. I also don't think that the count is right we used to get that 200 or 150 and they would be gone rapidly. We feed the gecko and the turtles once a week because they eat other things like fruits and vegetables. All I'm saying is that the math is not math and after he said, why am I repeating myself because I still could not find an answer so I had to keep asking her the different question it was almost like he got irritated and you know what they say when you're guilty you act out. I think I'm just going to go to another mom and pops. I'm over the headache.
