When I arrived, the posted price said two bags for $79. I asked the girl at the counter about it and showed her the website posted price. Like many other reviews, the "help" I experienced at EVR was lacking. When my car was loaded w/ the shavings I purchased, the kid loading grabbed every single bag by the top seam and ripped them open. He then proceeded to dump them in my back seat. Nice. Not really where I wanted to use them. After putting one bag of their mini flake shavings in my horse's shelter, he had a very severe allergic reaction (so bad it made him colic). I now have several bags of shavings that could be used for compost I guess. Along with a nice pricey emergency vet bill. There was *nothing* else that changed in my horse's environment. Just that one bag of shavings. I'll never go back to this store. The employees rush you, and they tend to be rude. If you call to see if they have any tested hay, they will say they don't know, they do but they don't have time to tell you the results, or no. You get a different answer every time. You have to physically go into the the store to see any hay test results. EVR needs to wise up, they are not the only feed store in town. There are much better ones with nicer employees, and it's a waste of gas and money to travel to their store and buy their product. Save yourself some aggravation and avoid this place. read more

Removed my other review because I came back in to get some hay, and was pleasantly surprised by the attentive customer service I received this go around. The staff was ready to help me as soon as I walked in and rang me up with a smile on their face! Hay has gone down in price considerably and the bales I got were gorgeous. This is one of the best sources of hay in the Auburn, CA area. The personnel are friendly, helpful and most of all knowledgeable about hay requirements for most horses. The delivery personnel are on time; meticulous; and perform their jobs in a timely manner. I had an emergency last week by running out of hay. Most stores are so backed up with deliveries they can't just 'fit' you in. This store did everything it could to get me a delivery the next day. That is as good as it gets in my book. read more

I have raised cattle, hauled hay from nevada bought and sold horses, raised kids in 4H and FFA, had goats, hogs amongst other things. These guys have always been my go to guys when something was needed. I'm not local to Auburn so I can't say the outstanding service I have received was cause I was a local. I can say those chills working in here are working, no nonsense get you what you need and on to help the next person. I'm only posting this today as I was passing through looking to see if they were open on a Sunday needing hay for the horses in the trailer and saw a comment speaking less than positive of our future generation. I'll tell you the girls up front were quick to take my money and the boys out back had the hay loaded up just as fast. Holy crap this place was cold inside. Yah, it was cold outside and just as cold inside. Echo Valley Ranch .. is not a ranch. It's listed on Yelp as a Pet Store ... not entirely accurate. Honestly, it's a feed and farm-ranch supply store. With chickens. One very large chicken wandering about. Wife and I stopped in looking for horse care utensils (brushes, combs, picks, etc) and found exactly what she was looking for in addition to a cool pink pocket knife, which she wasn't looking for. This is the place to go for your chicken needs. We bought 8 chickies from here back in August or so, and they are now healthy (almost) hens! All of the staff members have been incredibly helpful in answering all of my questions but ESPECIALLY Tory. Not only has she thoroughly answered all of my thousands of chicken inquiries, she was super helpful when I had not 1 but 2 issues with a waterer. She kept her cool with a smile on her face, even when I wasn't the nicest the first time around. She is truly the face of exemplary customer service. Thanks Tory! Little intimidating if it's the first time walking in, especially cuz the employees come off a little "what do you want" but they are the nicest people in town and are more than happy to help and make suggestions! The folks that work here are always friendly and helpful, they never make me feel stupid and even though they are very busy they take the time to answer all my newbie questions. They have almost every thing I have needed for my house pets and my pasture pets. They even have a section of used horse tack in the back of the store, which the proceeds go to Horses honor, a non-profit horse sanctuary, which makes me love the place even more. read more

I am a long time customer and was very happy with with this store until I bought a load of alfalfa on sale in January. One bull calf being raised to sell expecting it to be a prized herd bull became ill a week ago Wednesday evening and was dead at 11:15 pm. It was a $900 loss. Then, two days ago, one of our prime cow producers became listless, slow walking, and refusing to eat the alfalfa. It had given her bloat. Now we understood why the calf died. I returned the alfalfa wanting an exchange for orchard grass hay to help relieve the bloating. The employees were distraught the alfalfa had caused a calf to die but the owner had every excuse in the world, refusing any responsibility whatsoever. I was credited with the returned hay but charged the $91 difference for the Grass hay. After all the excusses, I asked if they tested this specific batch of hay. After being told all their hay was tested, I asked to see it. The owner smiled, saying he didn't keep the tests in the store and he was not interested in arguing with me. Again he claimed there was no way his alfalfa would cause bloat. I left saying to him this batch of alfalfa is dangerous and he will kill more animals. A wonderful store until they sell you feed that kills your animal. That's when you'll discover it is never their fault. So, buyer beware! read more

This place is a bit better than your average feed store. They have, or course a good hay selection with some seasonal variability and of course they deliver for a reasonable charge. They also have a lot of grain but they only carry ones made by Purina Mills and one other company I don't recall. I think that may just be for horse feed but it may apply to all livestock. They do have a good selection of horse and pet stuff. They do pay special attention to the fact that the area has a high number of endurance and trail riders. They stock and carry a good selection of gear that is popular with these types of riders and they have Easy Boots in stock. They also have a good selection of buckets, feeders, troughs, etc. They have a consignment section for used tack and gear and I think the proceeds of that go to a local horse rescue. They are usually doing a pretty brisk business on the weekends but I've never had to wait in a long line. The more senior staff is knowledgeable while the younger staff is helpful and polite. Parking is limited and a pain in the butt. Because of the nature of the business there are often large trucks and even trailers in a very tiny area along a relatively busy road. When the place is busy the parking lot is a bit dicey. They do have a bathroom but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's really an emergency. I don't know if the place is handicap friendly but if it is I doubt it's easy access. read more

I frequent this store a lot and the staff is helpful and friendly. They have a great selection of feed and supplies, although there are a few things I feed that they don't carry (Elk Grove Milling Stable Mix, Bar Ale goat minerals), so I end up going to other feed stores too (no one has everything I want!). That said, they have been great about ordering things for me when they didn't have them in stock (Sweet Lix goat mineral). My son loves to visit the baby chicks and that alone is worth the trip. read more

This was my first and last visit to this feed store. I stopped by looking for straw for my chicken pen, while there I wanted to check out the different types of lay pellets they had to offer. I have been buying from Tractor Supply and their variety seems very limited. I wanted to read nutrition labels and compare prices, variety available, etc. A woman approached me and asked if she could help me find something, I asked her where I could find the chicken feed. She asked what kind of food, I said Lay Pellets. She asked what kind I wanted, I said I would like to look at them and she then pretended to act confused by my request and told me, "Well you can't see them, they're in a bag." (No, really she said something that stupid) She then took me over to an area with several bins of chicken feed, ran her hand through some pellets and said, "See, this is what it looks like." She asked me what type of chicken feed I used now and I told her that I used Purina. She said we have Purina. I explained to her that I wanted to compare the different feeds available and read some labels, she told me. "well, some feeds are over there, (Points thumb over should indicating direction) and some are over there. (Points finger in the opposite direction) I was annoyed with her condescending insult and walked back to the counter to buy a bale of straw. I asked her for a bale of straw and she said, "What kind?" I asked what kind was available and how much were they? She said they had wheat straw and rice straw available. I said I don't know anything about rice straw so I will take a bale of wheat straw. She then asked me what the straw was for and I told her for my chicken pen. She said that yes, wheat straw was better for chicken pens. I paid, got my yellow loading ticket and left. The guys in the loading area were great, this one star is for them. They were fast, friendly and polite. When I got home to unload the straw.....It was rice straw. I checked my receipt and YUP, she sold me rice straw. I don't know this sales persons name but the initials on the receipt were "L.H." I used to go to this feed store 25+ years ago when it was Koch's. This woman was an arrogant, condescending ass-hat that tried to make out like I didn't know what I anything about chickens or ever been in a feed store before. More than that she was intentionally insulting. In the future I will be checking out the feed store up the street to see if they have a more friendly, helpful staff. I can always go back to Tractor Supply, they are always friendly and helpful. read more

A lady spent 20 minutes with me at the counter looking through feed cards to find what grain they had that would best suit my horse. She was super helpful and had no issue helping out. 10/10 service. read more
