Every once in a while you drive past a place so many times that it almost becomes part of the…read morescenery. That was the Turkey Hill Experience for me. I'd driven past it countless times over the last few years but either didn't have enough time to stop or couldn't convince anyone else to stop with me. During my Lancaster Adventure Day, though, all of that changed. I purchased a Single Scoop ticket online ahead of time for $16.75 and reserved the very first time slot of the day at 10am. I figured a late-summer Thursday morning would be the sweet spot, and it turned out to be a great decision. It was busy enough that the place felt lively but not so crowded that I had to wait for every exhibit. Parking was plentiful, and I somehow managed to snag a spot right in front of the GIANT cow out front. Honestly, my day was already off to a fantastic start! The only hiccup of the visit came during check-in. Even though I'd already purchased my ticket online, I still had to wait in the same line as everyone buying gift shop items, purchasing admission and asking questions. Since there were only a two employees working both the registers and admissions, the line moved a little slower than I expected. If I could change one thing, it would be creating a separate express check-in line for folks who already have tickets. Once I finally made it inside, though, everything became easy peasy! The exhibits are completely self-guided, so you can wander at your own pace learning how Turkey Hill makes its ice cream and iced tea while playing with interactive displays along the way. One of my favorite parts was creating my own virtual ice cream flavor, complete with custom packaging. I also wanted to film my own Turkey Hill commercial, but those stations stayed busy the entire time I was there, so that'll have to wait until another visit. Naturally, I made a beeline for the tea sampling station. As someone who appreciates sugar-free options, I was thrilled to find both Zero Sugar Sweet Tea and Zero Sugar Fruit Punch available to sample. Both were fantastic! Then it was time for the part we'd all been waiting for...unlimited ice cream samples. One thing I really appreciated is that they weren't tiny little "blink and it's gone" samples. You picked two flavors, and they served actual scoops in a bowl. For an attraction centered around ice cream, that felt exactly right. My only tiny complaint? Wooden popsicle sticks instead of spoons. They definitely got the job done, but they made eating melting ice cream a little more awkward than it needed to be. Still...free and unlimited ice cream? I'm not about to complain too loudly! I spent about an hour wandering through the exhibits, playing with the interactive displays and enjoying the air conditioning on a hot August morning before making one final stop in the gift shop. Prices there were about what you'd expect for a tourist attraction, but there were plenty of fun souvenirs if you're looking to bring a little Turkey Hill home with you. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend visiting the Turkey Hill Experience at least once. I don't know that it's somewhere I'd return over and over again, but it was a fun, interactive way to spend an hour learning something new, eating entirely acceptable quantities of free ice cream and escaping the August heat. That sounds like a pretty successful adventure day to me!

I placed a reservation request in the morning, and they called me in the early afternoon to let me know there was availability, which was great. I appreciated the variety of 15 wines from which you could sample to create your tasting. My picks consisted of: -2020 Sauvignon Blanc -2020 Fusion (white) -2020 Cellar 1599 Riesling: Cellar 1599 is a Waltz label, for reference. -2018 Cellar 1599 Red Blend -2017 Baron Red I won't go into detail on my experiences with each wine, but I did have a glass (and then buy a bottle) of the Riesling. The tastings come in little tasting tubes that are basically test tubes. While some might find that unusual, I'm a science person, so I liked it! They also have a cheese board (choose one of four cheeses) with chocolate and crackers, which I added. The tasting room staff were friendly and accessible. It was a beautiful day and lots of families were out on the large lawn. Too bad there isn't a restaurant here, or it would be even more of a win. In any case, Waltz is a winner!

Getting to know the various staff was so awesome. The servers, wait staff, management, and owners are all incredible people who care about your experience. The event themed cocktail menu was such a great special addition for several of the authors and books. The food was and as always absolutely amazing! Now add that to a a truly 200 year old hotel and brewery you are left with a one of a kind experience. Add this to a possible Haunted experience in the building, equipment and building built in the 1800s you have unparalleled ambiance and experience.

Not a large selection. The food was good. The place was cool. I would rate it higher but with the moving our reservation indoors and the limited beer selection I can't.

I entered the store and spied the proprietor/person at the counter. I gave a cheery hello and heard no reply. After a minute I spoke and began to ask about chocolate covered cherries and clear toy candy, a local traditional holiday candy. It was then I realized she was on her computer on a zoom meeting or face time call. Another customer was browsing and seemed content enough. The owner/employee paused in her communication on line and told me yes, she has cherries, yes, she can box them, no she does not carry clear toy. I told her I would be right back. I went to the car to speak to my mom, returned and she was still on the computer call, with ZERO effort made to tell the online person, look, I have customers, can I get back to you? Oh no, this conversation was just too important. While still on this call she stood up and put on plastic gloves to get the cherries for me. She didn't ask how many or anything, because she would have to stop her computer conversation. At that point I felt like the owner seemed too busy with her conversation and I felt like I was interrupting her by trying to be a customer. So I turned and left. Look, I really hate when I can't promote a small business but this is one of those times. In fairness, I didn't even try anything from the shop. My experience with the owner was enough to put me off from giving her my business. When your online communication is so important that you can't hang up to greet a customer, then please turn your sign to closed. This is a small shop so I'm sure the business can always use a new customer But sadly, it isn't me. There were a few soups available but none really enticed me. Mom went for the soup and half sandwich meal. She chose the pepperjack tomato soup and a half Reuben. She really didn't care for the soup and the Reuben she deemed just "okay". I opted for the ruffle salad and added chicken salad. The salad was large and had a wide variety of typical salad accouterments while the chicken salad was full of cranberries and crunch. Really, it was nothing special, but with the thick housemade ranch dressing, it still was good. It was also large - I brought half of it home. Isaac's was a good change of pace for us. Next time I think I'll try one of their sandwiches. I'm pretty sure mom will skip the soup.

If she wants to stay in this business she will go far. If she chooses something else she will be successful. I have hired/fired, and mentored over the course of a long career in US DoD. This young woman has "it". More than a mere server, she was a guide to our experience. She was the one soul radiating for us (a mixed couple) any kind of welcome or joy that we had chosen her place of business. The other patrons I feel sorry for, not a smile in the bunch. Maybe they are going through terrible things, if so, I pray for their deliverance. Issues: This company needs to get a handle on their web presence, and their various names on various platforms. While there in town, we had difficulty determining where we were going, and which menu mattered. The "name" on our reciept is [Issac's Kraft Kitchen & Brewery]. That does not appear for this location. Not a big deal, but how many engagements are you missing by being "mysterious". My wife got a club (couldn't finish) and pesto tortellini salad. I got a buffalo chicken salad. All the food was well executed, not perfect but good enough at that price point. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. Good place, would come here again if in the area.
