Went for their Friday Fish Fry a couple weeks ago. 4.99 for a Fish Fry is an absolute steal! The breaded fish was good quality! The biggest downside that holds it back from a 5 star review is that it is served on white sandwich bread. Give this thing a roll and its a 5 star! If you have never been to Hummers takeout counter, their chicken tenders are incredible! A completely underrated place! The potato wedges are also top notch! Mac and cheese is delicious, creamy and packed with flavor! A couple benches outside to sit and eat, but mostly this is a takeout spot. If you have never been to Hummers or their stand at Roots on Tuesday, their staff is awesome. For 20+ years they have treated me and my family with respect and kindness. The employees here make this place even more incredible. The prices of their meats are definitely fair and the quality is great! read more

Best.Butcher. Enough said. We eat their chicken tenders by the bucket. Very few places have chicken croquettes anymore and (per my husband) if you haven't had them before, you are just missing out. And the staff are incredibly friendly. I used to get my chicken, bacon, cheese - basically all of my deli and meat needs here (well actually at Roots on Tuesdays - where they have a stand) when I lived in PA and I MISS IT! Now I only get to treat myself on holidays when I look forward to a bad of beef jerky and cheese beef sticks, not to mention their chicken salad and scrapple. Best fried chicken you can buy!! Great selection of meats and cheeses with an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables...plenty of other consumables you may not even know you need!! I love a small town butcher shop and Hummers Meats lives up to my expectations. Even though they have several locations, they have been able to maintain the friendliness of local butcher shop along with high quality meats and products. Hummers in Mount Joy offers a large variety of meats, cheese, prepared food and frozen selections. The quality and cuts of meat are top notch and have never disappointed. I am hooked on their beef sticks, visiting almost every Saturday morning to restock. The sweet beef and cheese and Kielbasa pepper jack are delicious as is their turkey jerky. One of my favorites is their landjaeger sticks, which are very addictive. The welcoming service is constant during every visit. It is nice to see their butchers and employees take the time to discuss their products or recommend cuts of meat for a recipe. It's this hometown service that sets Hummers apart from other places to purchase meat. We visited this little gem for the first time today, it will not be the last time we visit, the staff was warm and welcoming, it was a great sight to see a traditional style butcher shop, the smell of smoked meats catches your nose as soon as you open the door, I'm looking forward to trying more of their meats. read more

Great local butcher shop with ham/pork, chicken, and beef - fresh and some frozen. They have a small sundry and fresh produce section as well as some sweets and drinks. The day I went they had a sale on wings for the super bowl...they smelled really good! Have always received excellent customer service at this location as well as their stand at Roots. I wish that more stores like this would focus on having local/no-antibiotic/hormone-free meat. Their chicken is from Jersey, and the clerk who waited on me had no idea where the pork was from. There is really no quality advantage to go here vs. Giant. It is nice to be able and get exactly how much meat you want for a roast etc instead of the pre-packaged stuff at the store, and I also think prices are a little better. read more

Great for the conveinence and price. A focus mostly on locally produced items. I go here at least once a week for my meats and deli items. Its conveinent for me since I only live about a block away. They also have a nice little selection of vegetables, fruits, and locally produced bakery items. Well worth the trip for me. Will slice/chip the deli items the way you want them, and they have a nice little hot food area where you can buy wings, buckets of chicken, onion rings, etc. Also have a frozen section and a drink section. Some of the items may be a little bit more than the big stores down the street, but I love to spend my money locally, and the deli items seem to be a lot more fresher than the big stores down the street. read more

This is my favorite place in Mount Joy! The meat selection is amazing, and prices are very competitive. I've gotten two separate meat/cheese snack trays for events I was attending, and each time Hummer's worked with me to customize the selection exactly to my liking. Excellent people working there. Every one is overly kind, and frankly, there isn't enough of that in today's world. I'll support this local shop at every opportunity I get. Ohh, pick up the red pepper cream cheese dip, it's definitely worth a try. read more

Amazing selection of meats ,cheeses, and other goodies. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.

Visited friends in the area & saw the shop. What a mistake on our part, we all ordered some of the to go foods sausage, wings & more! We made our meal & within 2.5 - 3hrs we all were racing to the restrooms sick both ends! Thinking food poisoning or improper cooking or something! The son of one of our group came over to bring KOP meds, it was then we realized the shop people were handling raw meat then cooked food without washing their hands before putting gloves on if they even used gloves! Disgusting shop hogs no wonder we were miserable, they do not care we are not locals except 1 couple & they are kind & timid afraid to make waves as they explained to us. We however are not & reported the issue, but the commonwealth has slack food handling laws compared to less rural states. Never will we try unproven country shops to purchased ready to eat food! YUK! Very Dangerous to improperly handle raw food or cross contaminate & sicken trusting customers! read more

i called in a large order to be specially cut for the holidays. when we arrived for pick up, our order was completely wrong. instead of the staff at harrisburg's Broad Street Market, admitting their mistake, they yelled at us and told us to go elsewhere for the meat. we were so shocked and taken aback by the way we were treated, that we ended up leaving the meat behind and purchasing from Superior on market street. so, while the meat may be quality, their lack of customer appreciation and service is much the opposite. so disappointed- i think i would much rather a combination of the two read more
