I just sent this email to the PA gov site for food handling: Good morning, I was at Groff's yesterday morning 1/5/2023 just after 9:30 am and witnessed a heavy-set blonde staff woman digging her UNGLOVED hands into the bacon ends bin for an order I requested. She had gone from filling my other two items and I honestly did not notice at that time if she had gloves on, but she had come from the back kitchen and went directly to the bacon bin with no hand washing and dug into the bacon bare-handed. She then moved directly to the cash register two feet away and without any hand cleaning/wiping, put her fingers on the keys and proceeded to ring me out. She then went directly to the next waiting customer. I was stunned and disgusted and now ashamed I made no comment and left the store. I will NOT be returning. These actions must be violations of any food handling and must be investigated. This is a very busy establishment and if this behavior is at the front in full view, what may go on in the back. Please take this matter seriously. Thank you for your consideration. read more

I love this little shop of delicious meats. I've been coming here for years but sadly, not as often as I'd like as its a little far from where I live. So when I find myself with time to head in that direction I take advantage and stock up. They have their own sausages and ring bologna that we enjoy very much. The ham is also very good and they sell a mean ham loaf and sausage loaf that I can't get enough of. My husband loves hog maw (pig stomach) and you can get them there filled and ready to bake. SO easy and very delicious. They have a small grocery section too where you can get items to add to your dinner and they often have a selection of local desserts. The shoo fly I purchased there the other day was a hit with my family! You can also purchase things in their freezer section like soups, pot pies, and various meats. Its a perfect place to get some local PA delights and share them with your friends and family. read more

A buddy recommended this shop. I never took it to the next step and walked in the place. Man, it is a Vegetarian's Nightmare. I was meeting a buddy at Folklore Coffee and passed Groff's after parking the car. Decided to visit after appropriately caffeinated. My, my, a Meat Lover's Dream! Ate the chorizo sausage for breakfast. Really substantial. My Dad makes sausage and it had the same consistency. Meaty. I am not sure what the deal is with commercial sausage. Most would float in water, these links would sink. Also bought some bacon, steak, baby back ribs, scrapple, and some odds and ends like mustard and BBQ sauce. The prices seem good. I have tended to go to Costco for my meats and autoshop without checking prices. It might be a bit more at Groff's but you get more. This place is a Meat Palace. Think I will be leaving Costco behind. This shop rocks! read more

Let me tell you what I love most from Groffs, and anytime I am even close to Elizabethtown, I need to stop for it....the BACON!!! It is so delicious and meaty, more meat than fat. I mean, one can rarely go bad with ANY bacon, but this just happens to be the best in my opinion. I love it here, as soon as you step out of the car you smell the delicious smoky air. I love the retro sign out front. It is usually always busy in here, especially on a weekend. You take a number and some nice person will call you...meanwhile, grab a bag of Zerbes chips whilst you wait, and check out the baked goods on the counter. We also really like the chicken cordon bleu that is already packed ready for your oven. The sausages are yummy, we have tried the apple and the peach jalepeno. We have gotten some steaks also, and a pork roast, and they have HOGMAW!!! Already for your oven also, or you can buy the casing and stuff yourself. Once I requested cracklings and some sweet lady went to the plant across the way and got me some! I wish we were closer, because this place is a winner. Everyone is super nice. The last visit I asked for a pound of swiss cheese, "chipped" and the young man had never had that request before. It was so yummy I started eating it in the parking lot! read more

Unfortunately I have to give Groff's a low rating. I should have turned around at the first red flag- dirty floor, dirty shelves. But, I ordered anyway and it didn't get better. It's standard to handle raw meat with bare hands in shops like Groff's. I'm ok with that actually. What I am not ok with is that after touching the raw meat, there was no hand washing or glove usage when using the register, when opening doors, when handling my bag,and worst of all when handling my credit card. AND (for the sake of cross contamination into prepared foods), there was a customer behind me who had an order of prepared food (wings and deli meat). The employee who waited on him used the same register and bags that my employee did. I know a bit about food safety code and regs and this is just No. No, no, no, no. If you're going to handle raw meat with out gloves, then execute a proper hand washing regimen prior touching other items- especially the customer's property. To me this goes beyond rules and regulations of food safety- it's respect in its simplest form. I was not afforded this respect. The customer service was also just as bad as their food safety. No smiles, barely a greeting ("who's next?!"), not even a thank you. Should have gone to giant. Sorry Groff's. I will not be back. read more

A friend raised five pigs as a hobby, and sold them as half's or whole to friends and family. Took orders and commissioned Groff's to do butcher the pigs. Groff's was terrible. Made a mess of the order. No attention to what customers requested. Said he would vacuum seal the meat, did not.I recieved a frozen fifteen pond pork belly uncut. When I stopped by to ask why they didn't cut it, I was told it dulled their blades and they wouldn't do it. I offered to pay the cost of the sharpening, I was berated.3/4 of my order was processed wrong. Their attitude and professionalism leaves much to be desired. read more
