There are a few good restaurants nearby. So iconic. Right off route 66/I-40. Next to Safeway. Friendly staff. Mediocre stuff-- The room took an hour to heat up. Brrr. The bathroom is teeny tiny. Adorable and unique lodging! It helps if you are a small person as the furniture seems selected for someone between 4 foot 5 and 5 feet tall. Fortunately I am 4 foot 9 so fit just right under the shower nozzle. The double bed is a standard height. My husband and I are small people in general so were fine with the room accommodations. But it might not suit the tastes of those bigger than us! Also, the tv screen is super small. But again, wasn't an issue for us as we try to avoid the news these days. Also, take note that the acoustics of the room are loud. So when the AC is on it is twice as loud as an AC in a regular motel. Also, a train will pass by and cause your bed to mildly vibrate. Let me tell ya I've learned so much on this journey. What made 66 so legendary in my opinion was the unique roadside attractions accompanied by towns with great vibes. The Wigwam Motel is known for this legendary teepee style motels. It's a unique experience in a small town. They have a new array of vintage vehicles to throughout the property that expresses the great vintage nostalgia this place once held for many. It's an iconic site to settle in on a long journey that's sure to please no matter which direction you go. I really enjoyed seeing this place. read more

"Have you slept in a Wigwam lately?" Years back, I did a drive on the historic Route 66 for a photo class that I was in. I took pictures of all the different iconic sites along the way. When I got to Holbrook, I was able to stay here at the Wigwam Motel. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed my stay. You cannot miss seeing these tepees as you drive by. I remember driving by these on a couple of occasions as a kid on family road trips. Seven "Wigwam Villages" were constructed in several states in the early 1900's. This wigwam village in Holbrook is the sixth one and opened in 1950. Each concrete tepee is 32 feet high and 14 feet wide at the base. There are 15 of them at this location and they have all been restored. Parked in front of the wigwams are several restored vintage cars from the 60's that make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Take a nostalgic trip down the Route 66 and stay at a wigwam if you get a chance. There are only a few of these villages left in the U.S. We are fortunate enough to still have one in Arizona. They are pretty affordable and cozy to sleep in. These wigwam villages were the inspiration for Radiator Spring's Cozy Cone Motel in the Pixar film "Cars". Nearby points of interests are Petrified Forest National Park, Meteor Crater and the Grand Canyon. read more

Outside looks inviting, different and quirky. Inside needs a major overhaul. No personality at all. Old and outdated. The heating system is terrible, if I wasn't so tired and so late I would just leave now. No coffee offered in the morning, you have to go to the nearest gas station or drive 2 miles. I get not offering breakfast but no coffee! Not even a coffee maker in the room. We stayed down the street last time at Brad's Desert Inn so sorry we didn't stay there again. Plus the price is $40 higher a night at the Wigwam! $115 vs $75 at Brad's. So disappointing. read more

A cool little lodging on route 66 in Holbrook. Wigwams (T-PEES) Made out of concrete. It was a draw back to its hayday I guess in the 40s. Main thi g it has a decent powerful modern ac and scorching hot water...yeah its a bit rundown being built over40 years ago but thats also thr charm of it. I Believe in the movie "cars" this is the town that was modeled for the main town in the movie. $105 A night aint bad to stay in an icon of route 66 on route 66.....after a long drive off and on interstates and antiquated highways it was so cool to rest and relax in an airconditioned safe nook in the middle of nowhere. This particular wigwam location (there are 3 total) is located in holbrook a small town off the interstate with a few fastfood places (dairy queen not recommended) mcdonalds (recommended) and few gas stations. The lot is littered with staged cars parked in front of the wigwams and old rusted hulks of cars and trucks to emmulate how it looked back in its busy days. Cute experience! Had AC/heat, hot water, shower, tv, and wifi! Didn't have any issues except when I first got in the shower the water wasn't draining the best. It eventually drained. They had one magnet but it didn't have the wigwams on it, just the front building. Would deff recommend and stay again! read more

I loved our stay at the Wigwam Motel. My wife and I arrived late in the evening on a Monday night shortly before their office closed at 9pm. We checked in and were assigned Wigwam #5. It is difficult to see the Wigwam numbers on the doors and they are not painted on the outside of the rooms anywhere. I just counted counter clockwise starting from the street and got lucky. Parking is easy and they have placed old 40s and 50s model cars and trucks between the Wigwams. It looks great and is a nice touch. Set your expectations accordingly as you are not staying in a 21st century built motel and the room is not your typical rectangular shape. Overall our room was comfortable and relatively quiet. Our mattress had a few squeaky springs but otherwise was fine. Trains do pass behind the motel all night long but thankfully don't blow their horns near the place. They didn't bother us at all. The bathroom is kinda crazy stuffed in the back of the Wigwam. The mirror is mounted on a slanting upward wall giving you a good perspective on how much hair you may or may not have up there. There is no counter space and only a short metal shelf. The shower had odd angles to it and a shower head mounted 5 1/2 ft off the floor. The shower though had plenty of water pressure and hot water. There is no hair dryer provided. There was soap and shampoo in packets. The TV is dinky maybe a 24" size but it comes with DirecTV service and the local channels. Our remote didn't control the TV itself which was annoying but did change the channels on the satellite. The AC was kinda wacky. It was a unit too large for the space and would come on like a jet engine for 15 to 30 seconds and then shut off as it cooled the space that quickly. The electrical overall is old school and we couldn't get one of the lamps to work at all. In the end, we got a great night's sleep. read more

We decided to try something different this time in Holbrook. Wig Wam is a fun, little historical motel. Don't expect an upscale motel here. It's an authentic, Route 66 motor lodge (sort of). The rooms are clean and very comfortable. Nothing fancy, but plenty of space and everything you need. It is next to the railroad tracks but they do provide ear plugs if you need them. And the water pressure in the shower is unlike any place else! If you're looking for something fun for a change, check them out. read more

This was our second time staying a the wigwam. Although no frills, the bed was comfortable and the linens were soft and clean. We slept well. Obviously the room was small, the walls angle up to a point. The furniture is old and basic but functional. The heater worked well and the room was toasty when we got in. Pets are allowed. However for a special and unique experience, and a comfy bed, in a geometrically shaped tipi, this wonderfully creative family owned business has a lot of offer as far as accommodations. They are definitely one of a kind. I slept amazing on a really comfy bed. Best night I had in months! I loved the geometric magic, the classic cars spread throughout the property and even the shower, while small and not with endless warm water, was fabulous. Definitely the best place to stay in Holbrook in my opinion, although if you want to glamp out even more "The Tent" another great option, and of course the Painted Desert Inn if you've got funds to splurge. Under $100.00 per night was a nice little deal. We made a stop here from our trip and decided to check it out it looked pretty cool and we were tired so we stayed one night. Room was clean and it was a neat experience. The area though, has a lot of homeless people so watch out and make sure you lock your car when you go to the gas station near the hotel. Oh, and they built em' next to train tracks of the busiest East/West shipping routes in the U.S. (the trains pass every 30 min, all night, every night). I am a travel agent and I L O V E D this place!!! I loved the old cars, I loved the little museum. I loved the service (I did not love housekeeping coming into my teepee while I was in the shower.) I wish I had stayed two nights. I will definitely go back. They accept pets. It's clean, has nice toiletries and actual thick bath towels not the cheap, thin, scratchy ones. I was in #16. Right by the road. I was a bit worried but the air conditioner cancelled out any noise from the road which isn't busy and the train that is not far, I could hear rumbling but nothing disturbing and I am a light sleeper. Mine had a queen bed, tile and some rustic furniture for a cozy sitting area and a desk. Surprisingly spacious. The bathroom cracked me up! I actually enjoyed the bathroom but when I first walked in I thought there was no shower. (It's behind the bathroom door! It too was surprisingly roomy! Big enough for two people if you're creative and get down like that! It was so fun and a true piece of Americana. I can't wait to go back. Pro tip: some are carpeted, some are tiled. We didn't stay here. We honestly considered it for a couple minutes, since we picked many of our hotel stays on the fly. We traveled Route 66 for a significant portion of our summer road trip out west. We were super excited to visit Holbrook and check out the Wigwam Motel. I believe I may have visited this particular site as a kid. I think there were other teepee motels around the country, but this is the only remaining location. Sadly, Holbrook is pretty rundown. We made one stop to a Taco Bell while in town, but after seeing many of the wily looking characters that came in and out, we just didn't feel like the town was a good place to hang around. It didn't seem welcoming to outsiders. And, directly across from the Wigwam, when we went to visit, there was a Native American woman who was no doubt schizophrenic and paced up and down the sidewalk out front. We pulled over to check our map, and the woman attempted to approach our car. We couldn't get out of Holbrook fast enough. It pains me to say that, because we're all about cool kitschy history, but there is no way I would have felt comfortable spending the night at the Wigwam...especially with kids :-( read more

I used to see Wigwam Motels on the highway when I was a little girl. But my father would never let us stay in them. I took this chance to stay in one when we were on a road trip with our grandchildren. We surprised them by pulling into the Wigwam on the night of our stay. Everyone was very excited. We had two Wigwams between our two families. The children loved the old cars around the parking lot, and the next morning looked at all of them. Their favorite was a camper that was on the back of a VW bug. The rooms were very clean, but beware that they do not have many electrical outlets for charging things. However, it's worth staying night in the hotel in charge of things elsewhere the next day. We loved it. read more

Since each room is a wigwam you cant hear your neighbors like in a normal stacked hotel/motel. The rooms were comfortable and super clean. I felt COVID safer here than the Hilton (our other stop) because there's no main lobby or shared air units. Very clean. The shower is short as the other review reads. As someone who is 6 foot tall I was glad it wasn't a hair washing shower but was great for a rinse and go kind of shower - great water pressure. This place has character and is pet friendly. We drove cross country moving from CA to MO. I actually searched for fun and quirky places to stay along the way on Route 66 and when I saw a wigwam motel in Holbrook, I booked immediately. Who doesn't want to stay in a wigwam!??! We added that into our route. This place gets a 5 for the experience - not comparing it to larger hotel chains. The price was great - ~$80 per night. I was so excited when we pulled up and saw all those wigwams! I was not expecting much as far as the interior; we were here for the experience. The room was actually a lot bigger than we expected. The bed was a full or queen and there was an area to the side in an open area with a chair and coffee table as well as a desk. We also had a computer monitor-like "thing" that was the TV. It worked so that is all that matters! This town is small and "dead" compared to larger tourist towns. We yelped and found a great restaurant (Mesa) for dinner and then headed back to the motel for pictures around the property and TV. The bathroom is very basic. Staying here felt more like "glamping" than a hotel stay. I did actually wear flip flops in the shower, which elicited 7th grade camp memories. I would also suggest that as well. The shower is just really old. Again, if you need a nice hotel with plenty of accommodations and conveniences, this motel may not be for you. Holbrook may also not be the town for you either. Check your expectations before checking in. This is a great hotel for kids! When people looked at my roundtrip pictures, the first photo on which they commented was the wigwam motel! read more
