Wight's Deck+Design built our deck last year and we had a good experience, so we decided to use them for our landscape project. Our recent experience was not as positive. The project was poorly managed and lacked clear communication. From our perspective, the owner was too busy to thoughtfully manage our project which caused confusion and delays. Additionally, we were surprised by the final invoice. The labor estimate nearly doubled compared to the original estimate without any communication that actual hours were running over the planned hours. At the end of the day, we are satisfied with the result. However, we feel like we overpaid due to project mismanagement and would not recommend this experience to others. read more

I spent a significant amount of time trying to get a proposal from this company, time wasted where I could have found another contractor to work on my project. Finally after blowing me off for an on-site meeting, I get a response that he's booked until June (after he'd told me in September he couldn't do my project until December, which I agreed to). Incredibly unprofessional to disappear on someone. The way customers are treated in a hot market will determine which companies thrive in down markets. Thadd was incredibly unprofessional and wasted a bunch of my time. Within an hour of posting this review on another site, I got an email from the owner disputing the above. I have no reason to be dishonest and hurt a company, but I feel I should warn people of my experience. Maybe the owner will learn from this experience, maybe not. read more

Sadly a waste of our families time. They'll work to frame a quote but then try to shift you to "design services" at that point they will waste time ignoring all the feedback you gave them for the first quote and present options that don't account for feedback and are highly irregular. Suggesting deck stairs that risk violating the border of your yard, then sending you a much higher quote despite working to reduce the size of the deck. After that they'll try to charge you for not providing a design that incorporates feedback from the client. There are many friendly and reasonable people to work with in the area. You are asking for a headache by engaging this team. Look elsewhere if you don't want your time wasted. read more

Once again the crew was quick and professional and were willing to tweak things as they worked to make me happy. This review is a bit overdue as Thad and team finished the work in my yard several months ago. I had a 3 part project in my yard: 1. clear out the brush and weeds on a reasonably large hill that have been taking over for the past several years 2. extend the fenced in area to support my daughter's new puppy desire 3. re-landscape the hill from #1 with an attractive, low-maintenance solution I had clear ideas of what I wanted for #1 and #2, but was open to suggestions for #3, although I did have some general preferences. I solicited bids from a few local contractors (all highly rated on Yelp) and went with Thad because he was significantly cheaper and more excited about the possibilities of what could be done. Thad and his team started the work on #1 and #2 while putting together a proposal for how to re-landscape. The plan was detailed and came with a firm estimate along with an explanation of why he was suggesting the various plants and how they would end up looking as they matured. I would post the before and after pictures in the review if I could, but they are on the Wight's website. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the result. The work always came in right on budget, the team always showed up when they said they would, and made sure to clarify any details that either weren't clear or I hadn't thought of. read more

Thadd and his crew did an AMAZING job on our new deck. (The old one was scary to walk on!) Wight's Landscaping's quote was reasonable (and the second lowest of the four companies we interviewed for the job) and Thadd was great about accommodating add-ons to the job when we all realized my husband and I had different project scopes in mind. His crew was professional and fully cleaned the job site. Even better, they were able to fit us in right away and the project was done within a week. I have used Wight's landscaping two times so far. First, to build a retaining wall in the front yard and then again to do some landscaping in the backyard. Both times I was extremely impressed with the quality of the work. In addition, the price was similar or lower than others I have tried but with much higher quality results. We initially hired another contractor to replace our back deck and build us a covered front porch. It was nightmare after nightmare (and that was before COVID-19) dealing with him. Finally I discovered that he hadn't even gotten the correct permits from the city and had not built to code or even using all the materials in our contract. He was so fired! Thadd and his crew helped make it all right, working with me and the city and an engineer to get all the boxes checked for permitting and code and safety. We now have a new back deck that is beautiful and safe and an amazing covered front porch that we get nothing but compliments on. Based on reviews found here I called to request a service. I left a message with a call back number. Several days later I got home and found V.M from this company in his message a person asked what kind of service I need,and that they are booked not mentioned until when. I called back to explain what I need. Trimming, planting, cleaning. The man I spoke with stated again that they are booked. I had a feeling that they are not really interested in coming over to look to look at my yard and give me an estimate.So far can't find a dissent landscape company to come to do the job. This review is not based on services provided. I emailed to ask for a bid for a project at my house and was set up to meet the next week. We met at my house and talked about the project, which is in the $25000 range (based on other bids). Ultimately it took over 2 weeks to hear back and eventually was told that they are too busy and can't do a project in my location (NE Seattle). No bid was given. With my parents getting old and having health issues taking care of their own lawn is no longer something on their priority list. They've thought about having someone to do the basic lawn mowing and yard works for years but have never found the one that they trust or liked. With my recently luck finding things on yelp, they decided to give it a go with some skepticism. When they contacted other companies previously, some didn't take it seriously since its not exactly your revamp the whole back yard job order. One company actually had the nerve to come out, mow 1 row down the lawn, and then left w/out even a phone call or any notification or explanation. That was after a price for the job has been agreed by both parties. So you can see why my parents were a bit comprehensive when I told them to give Thadd a call. Little did I know my suggestion was possibly the best thing that's ever happened to them. Not only did Thadd give them a very reasonable price, the workers were very speedy n professional in a almost ninja like way. It sure was nice coming home to a fresh lawn n clean driveway. You couldn't possibly tell that they've been here other than the freshly cut grass or the cleaner yard. Now that my parents have this problem solved, they've had more time and energy freed up for more important things. They removed this awful sandbox our house had when we bought it and restored the landscaping in the front to it's original intent. Our house looks a million times better thanks to Wight's Landscaping. It also looks like we spent a million dollars. But we didn't. Not even close! Thad's final bill to us was almost exactly what he quoted. (It was a little over due to the last minute sandbox removal work we asked him to do so the overage was expected). Sometimes you have to look at your yard and say really, is it even worth my time? I decided it was just too much for me and unless your having a blast pulling weeds i would call Thad over at Wight's landscaping. He took care of pruning back bushes, mowing the lawns, edging them pristinely. Picking up fallen leaves, weeding and even taking away all the debris. It was fast, efficient, and his team was incredibly kind, courteous and worked quickly and expertly. I recently hired Wights Landscaping to install a cedar fence in my backyard. I had obtained bids from 3 different landscaping companies and decided to go with Wights Landscaping because a.) I liked reading the positive reviews on Yelp, b.) Thad got back to me right away via e-mail, c.) their prices are reasonable, and d.) I liked the quality of their work, based on pictures posted on their website and Yelp. Thad sent a two man crew out to install the fence. His team was extremely professional, friendly, and got the work done in 1.5 days (ahead of schedule!). When they were done, they cleaned up any remaining debris using a leaf blower. Thadd and his team did a bit of an unusual job at my father's home - they reinforced, repaired, and improved a long wood pedestrian bridge with stone pavers on it. His team did the work and made sure that the bridge was passable every evening when they left so that my elderly father could still get across it safely. When the snow came, Thadd waited until the ice had all melted to finish the job. He could have rushed through and put the sealant on anyway. Let's be honest, I wouldn't have noticed that the sealant didn't set properly set until well after the job was done but instead they took a few extra days so they could be sure the job was done right. I was very happy with their work and communication. I would highly recommend them! read more

After 15 years we finally decided to replace our wood fence. I was originally planning on doing the work myself as I have helped friends in the past rebuild their fences. But that all changed when I injured my back and was told to take it easy for the next several months. So I started looking around for a company to do the whole job (removal of the old fence and building of the new one). I was shocked at the expense. It would cost over $4,500 for the entire job. Well, being someone who likes to save some money, I decided to see if it would be less expensive if I purchased the material myself and then hire a company to do the labor. I got my kids and friends to help teardown the old fence and have the old wood recycled rather than dumping it in a landfill. That did save some money for the project. After all my searching and reviews, I decided to purchase the material myself and go with Wight's Landscaping do the building of the new fence. I choose Wight's Landscaping to build the new fence based on reviews that I ready on Yelp. When I sent my initial email to Wight's Landscaping, Thadd responded right away. Several other companies didn't even respond. Thadd and I seemed to have a good rapport together with Thadd answering all of my many questions right away as I was trying to plan out the project. After many emails back and forth about design, cost and schedule, we finally agreed upon an estimate and who was responsible for which materials. Thadd even stopped by my house to make sure that he understood the scope of the project. I ended up purchasing the wood while Thadd focused on buying the necessary nails needed to work with their equipment. A few days before the project was to begin, Thadd contacted me to make sure that everything was still on schedule and to let me know who would be doing the work and when I could expect them to arrive at the house. Gabe and David were the two guys that came out to build our new fence. They arrived on time and ready to go. After a quick walk through with them, the project got started. Gabe and David were great. Not only did they finish the project ahead of schedule but the new fence looks amazing. My overall impression of Wight's Landscaping was that they were very professional and did a fantastic job on our new fence. They came in under the proposed estimate and finished faster than expected and cleaned up the job site once everything was completed. I would have no problems recommending them to someone. I was looking for a landscape company to recreate my small back yard. It required some demo and excavation in preparation for the next phase. I searched for landscape companies that did this kind of work. I checked the reviews and found this company to have good reviews. Look no further I thought. I called up and made an appointment for Thad to come out to view the site. I left work early in excitement and waited, he failed to show. I called and Thad answered, he was apologetic and we rescheduled. He once again failed to make the appointment. We rescheduled again with Thad's assurance he would make it. Thad sent Gabe to the appointment. We went over the plan and Gabe assured me he would have an estimate to me in a few days. As the days turned into weeks I got the message... they were not going to get back to me. Its a shame this company didn't respond to me. Even if the job was too much for them. Gabe said they were a small company but the job was just what they do. I had plenty of work for them with extra work after they had done the first phase.
