I have tried all of these options and they are all fantastic, but I am a purest and love the kosher all beef dog with grilled peppers and a touch of sauerkraut the best. You can also purchase frito-lay bags of chips and bottled/canned drinks. He uses local wieners ...tee hee....from Hofmann's franks based out of Syracuse New York. Lou notes that he thinks that "central New Yorkers prefer the grilled flavor to the classic New York city steamed or boiled hot dogs." This is why he switched to a gas powered grill in 2001. I can't agree more, I love the grill. Lou is super friendly, and he'll chat with you as he prepares your dogs. Its $2 per hot dog. One dog is a great snack, 2 dogs or 1 chicken spiedie is a great meal. They do server beer and have lots of fountain drink options as well. I got a Gianelli sausage with cheese fries and chili. Ummm --it was so good. The fries could've used just a little more salt and pepper, but that sausage hit the spot. My mom got a sausage with cheese fries and macaroni salad and loved it. No complaints here! Next door is Sweet Treats, their ice cream stand, and it's the perfect way to end your meal. They've got soft serve, hard ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, flurries--you name it. My mom got a raspberry-lime sherbet twist, and I went all in with cookie dough chocolate chip ice cream mixed with vanilla, topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. So refreshing and delicious. If you are ever in the Syracuse/Liverpool area, I definitely recommend trying Heid's at least 3 times in your life. It's affordable, family-friendly, and full of nostalgia. They also have live bands on Wednesdays, car shows, outdoor seating, and community events for kids throughout the year. Definitely tastes exactly the way I remember. It's cool that this joint was established in 1917. We are eating at a landmark of Liverpool. Walking in the front, there's a huge menu board to check out. We all walked in and ordered. It is a little crowded in the ordering area. There's not a lot of space between the wall and the counter. We ordered quite a few things. Of course we had to try everything. I really wanted to try the hot dogs but they gave veal in them. I just can't wrap my head around the veal. So, tonight I ordered the sausage with onions and peppers, onion rings and fries. Everything was cooked right in front of us while we were waiting. Everything on the grill looked so good! We loaded up our trays with our goodies after it was all cooked and headed to the dining area. I added some mustard and ketchup to my sausage. The onions and peppers were sautéed nicely. The sausage was tasty but dry. I ate about half and was over it. I didn't eat it with the roll, it was just too much. The onion rings were my favorite! I love the beer batter that they use. I dipped that onion ring in a side of cheese sauce, fantastic! The fries were good as well. And yes, they are even better dipped in cheese sauce. My husband smashed both of his chili and cheese dogs. He washed everything down with their chocolate milk. I had a sip of it and it's super chocolatey! It was neat to eat here today. I got to see what my father in law was a part of when he was Heid's personal banker. And eat what he used to eat when he was young. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. They have a ton of soft serve ice cream flavors but the big bonus here is Hershey's ice cream which can be more difficult to find as everyone seems to carry Perry's which is substandard compared to Hershey's in almost every way. Right now they still have the Banana Moose Tracks which is a fantastic flavor. They have hot dogs also with lots of toppings. They also have a playground of sorts for kids with several Pavilions they've recently put up. Best part is they went the extra mile and put up a fence on the edge of where kids play to keep kids from wandering into road. Finally, they have a wall up now where the seating is located too, once again, keep kids and others from wondering into the busy parking lost entrance. It's busy and popular but worth it.
