This place was recommended to me by a fellow yelper and oh it was so disappointing. Yes you get seated straightaway on Sundays if you arrive before 10 but expect a queue straight after. Quite a large venue with comfortable seating. they have a couple of coffee blends to choose from and even do a cold brew with ginger. Service is quite slow and scattered. We ordered the french toast with mascarpone and poached pear and the jalapeno quesadillas. Both dishes were quite disappointing. The french toast was just brioche with burnt sugar. I've seen beautiful photos of french toast from cafes I've been to in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth and by far this was the least indulgent, lacking in presentation and burnt tasting french toast. What a waste of my cheat day. Then the jalapeno quesadillas were two deep fried stretchy tortillas with a sprinkling of jalapeno and cheese with a fried egg on top. Seriously why? My mocha was ok. Couldn't taste the chocolate but the coffee blend was nice. No split bills.

This place had been staring at me from Google Maps for ages so early one morning, when I happened to be around the Brunswick area, I decided that I would step inside and check the place out. I have to say that I was pretty impressed. It's is an old converted warehouse that serves some rather interesting assortment of breakfast dishes. Mind you, it was pretty packed when I was here, but at least that had some space at the large communal table. I ended up having the giant rashes, and when I say giant, I mean that were really, really big (none of those thin bacon rashes you see elsewhere). They also have lots of little rooms, though I'm not sure it you can rent them out. Definitely a place to check out.

Agree with everything Emma C says..... I've been three times, and every time I have been getting less likely to return for breakfast. Great fit out, cool patrons, good mix on the menu, good coffee and very popular, but I'm not number one ticket hlder or president of the WideOpenRoadFoodFanClub. Given the choice of here or Residential Kitchen a few hundered metres away, I'd go there. Worth a look, it may be your thing, it may not. It's trendy, but I have been left feeling a little flat afterwards. For me the highlight id the restoration going on out the bak of the Kitchen; if you go to the toilest you'll see what I mean.

If you wear frames with no glass in them, have a beard or ride a fixy then you'll love this place.

Everything I've tried from the menu is delicious but I can't go past the bircher muesli (changes depending on seasonal fruits and flavours).

The coffee itself wasn't all that bad (I did decide to have one this time, but these days it is a rarity) and the service was pretty decent as well. It was a nice and relaxed place.

As the name suggests, these folk are really fuckin' into coffee. And the shit thing about places…read morelike this, is that they can have a tendency to alienate those of us who: a) like coffee but don't really give a toss about whether it's been hand picked by naked Bolivian princesses; or b) are addicted to caffeine, so need coffee but don't really give a toss whether it's single, double or god damned multiple source (whatever that means). Growers have a range of single sourced beans and dish out a few locally grown varietals. And, to be fair, every coffee I've had from this place has been bordering on exceptional. They have a tendency to go heavy on the pour, so be wary of asking for a 'strong' anything -- their shit is already guaranteed to rock your caffeine receptors into a coma. So, if you like coffee with your coffee and a healthy dose of 'information' along with it, I couldn't recommend this place more.

This cafe is off the beaten path, blinked and you will easily miss it…read more Located in a hidden alleyway of Raffa Pl, precisely next to a gas station. From the outside, this looks like one of the crappiest Cafe I've ever been to in the city, but once inside, the atmosphere transforms into something different... The space actually feels like I'm walking into someone else's backyard! High glass ceiling, wooden furnitures, industrial vibes adorned with lush greeneries hanging throughout the restaurant - what a relaxing ambiance and the kind of place that invites you to hang a little bit longer. Originally, I came to try their famous salmon garden entree, but unfortunately they no longer have that on their menu *Sad*... So I settled for their breakfast pasta and happy to say, it doesn't disappoint in any way. The pasta comes in a pretty ceramic bowl, the presentation was fancy to the eyes, consisting of bacon, three kinds of cheese and poached egg. The dish was seriously creamy without giving you that nauseating feeling, absolutely yum! For my drink, I had the hot chocolate and it was a disappointment, slightly bitter, grainy and watered down, should have stick with the coffee, next time. The pricing was quite affordable per my Melbourne cafe standard. The service was quick and efficient, although I feel they kinda rushed you to order. But that aside, what a delicious find!!

Walking behind the Shell service station down a dodgy Carlton alley doesn't seem like a good time,…read morebut Vertue makes the trip worthwhile. Spinning the alley corner you are immediately greeted with giant open doors and polished floorboards, leading to an impressive counter layered with fresh coffee blends, beans barreled up and ready to be ground, and some great looking snacks to go with your caffine. This is definitely a place for coffee lovers, with various batches of beans available for purchase to take home and brew yourself. They also have a lovely seating area with a menu available for eats, but I was only stopping for coffee. And what a coffee it was! Beautifully roasted with a maple finish that made me feel like I was drinking a coffee flavoured pancake. I have no idea what magical method they use on their soy, but it was light, fluffy and sweet. So go down that dark alley and find one of Carlton's finest establishments.
