Avocado and cherry tomatoes on toast with poached eggs
Krystal L.

Fantastic local coffee, and sometimes brunch, spot! Di Bella really do have a unique roast, but I like it. Fantastic array of coffee & food too! also, like that they have the macchinette (little stovetop coffee machines) on display & for sale. I can never have enough of these - I know, maybe a little addiction. If you wake up late on a weekend, not to worry - their kitchen is open until 3.

Di Bella is a fantastic place to go for the true "Melbournian coffee snob"! As you walk in the aromas hit your nostrils and send you into a coffee frenzy. There is a really good seating arrangement where you can sit outside on the street, inside amongst coffee paraphernalia, in an indoor courtyard or an outdoor courtyard. On the hot and windy day when I went I chose the indoor courtyard, which was very pleasant. The Chai tea I ordered was really yummy and perfectly spiced with a little bit of honey on the side. How I like it! The menu is outstanding with many great gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. The guy making the coffees had a curled moustache so I was sure the coffee there was going to be great and it really was. Coffee people will love this place where mid week it is a popular place for those business types on their lunch breaks to come and relax and enjoy a beautifully roasted coffee.

Crab omelette

Its been a little while since I last came to this joint. Its a nice little café in a quiet street in North Melbourne. I decided to have a late lunch alone (one of the challenge I gave myself to get out of my comfort zone). I didn't get there till nearly 3 and was told I have 5 minutes before the kitchen close. I was leaning towards the coffee cured Salmon or the crab omelette and was advised that the omelette was awesome. It came with a broth, pretty enough dish, however although the omelette tasted great, it was a tad sweet, there was some kind of honey sauce sprinkle on top of the omelette but the saltiness of the broth makes up for the sweetness. The price of the brunch seems a little on the higher end at $20-$22.

East Coast Benny Chan & Crystal Bay Prawns and Angela Hair

Roasting warehouse is my new favourite brunch place. Nice cafe situated in North Melbourne with lots of parking around the area. We ordered the East Coast Benny Chan & Crystal Bay Prawns and Angel Hair. The Benny Chan lacked a bit of sauce but I liked it with the roti. The pasta was delicious and the seafood was so fresh and tasty. Coffee was amazing! It's so nice, strong and I love that you can really taste the coffee. The ice mocha was also on point. Definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Banana Bread.

Di Bella understands the saying that we eat with our eyes first. The two plates of food we ordered were beautifully presented with pops of color. When the waitress dropped off our dishes on the table, I was flabbergasted at how they transformed even a simple banana bread to look like a piece of edible art. Being a nosy foodie, I continued to marvel at the dishes flying out of the kitchen to the other tables. Unfortunately that was where the wow factor stopped because the quality of the food was subpar. There were too many flavors that didn't seem to blend well together, and the jam was much too sweet that it overpowered the star of the dish which was supposed to be the banana bread. And perhaps I let the bread sit too long in the mountain of sauces/whipped cream that it had absolutely no texture to it. Too make matters worse, I started noticing a strange aftertaste when the sugar attack on my tongue was subsiding that there was a slightly bitter and salty flavor which turned me off from the rest of the plate. I shared some with my partner only to ask if he could detect it and if he could identify what it was. While he definitely tasted it, neither of us could put a finger on which part of the dish it was coming from. In the end, we returned a half-eaten dish to a waiter which is rare considering both my partner and I hate to waste food. Arghhh! As for the meatball sub my partner had, it was nothing special in flavor but once again it was a stunningly coordinated plate with height (subs were stacked on top of each other with the help of a long toothpick). The taro chips that accompanied the sub tasted of oil and not much else. Meh, Instagram-worthy food but that's about it. Still, I have to say that even though the menu is quite small, it is very inspired with plenty of different flavors (+breakfast, eggs, and grains served all day which is awesome). While we definitely won't be back for the food, the atmosphere is lovely - homely with exposed brick, lively with huge crowds, and warm service. Perhaps just coffee next time?

Piccolo. Straight up!

OK. I'm not a big fan of Di Bella coffee, but I thought I would come to the source to see. This is only my second Yelp recommendation. The coffee was pretty good: a lovely Piccolo to start, although I found the brew to be a little astringent- which is typical of the stronger Italian roasts. However, the food was excellent. The black sticky rice, mango, coconut milk and almond brekky was superb. Would I go back. Nup. Too many good places and I hate seeing middle aged men in Lycra. Ewwww. S

What a discovery this was! Really good single origin coffee and good vibe. We had a quick nibble too, next time coming for full brekkie!

hotcake with what can I say ...yummy !
