I was greeted with no waiting, and Srushti brought me water and a menu. The restaurant was nicely arranged, sound levels allowed easy conversations, and the service was excellent. I ordered the Classic Belgian Waffle (a freshly pressed Belgian waffle drizzled with maple syrup and icing sugar, $12 CAD), along with two poached eggs ($4 CAD) and a peanut butter banana smoothie ($10 CAD). Within 15 minutes Srushti served me the meal, and I was left to look out into the beautiful July skies in Jasper.

Balanced this hot and sweet meal with Canada's finest maple syrup. Light, crispy, crunchy, savory, spicy, sweet, tangy. They've mastered the art of waffles down to a science where it rises back up and maintains its original shape when pierced with a fork. Ambiance is well lit and relaxing. Staff provided fabulous customer service bright and early.

No wait for us, but everyone who came after us without a reservation would have needed to wait until ~8:45PM. The menu isn't too extensive, but has a wide variety. I started with a Black Cherry Lemonade. For a party of four, we ordered Alberta Antipasto Skewers, Stuffed Porto, and Chef's Soup. The chef's soup of the day was a Salmon Chowder. We also ordered Basil Bliss Penne, Truffled Elk Tagliatelle, Orchard Duck, and Old Fashioned Bison Short Ribs to share as our mains. The Salmon Chowder was hearty and belly-warming. Lots of salmon bits in there and mixed vegetables. I liked that the chowder wasn't too thick and heavy. I absolutely loved the Stuffed Portos. They're soft, meaty, and juicy and the sauce it comes with mixes so well with the cashew and tofu crumble. As for the Alberta Antipasto Skewers, I can't say I've had Elk and Bison much, but the Elk pepperoni was pretty good! Can't go wrong with the prosciutto either since they just go so well with slices of toasted bread. Both of the sauce it came with was great, but I think I liked the green, herby sauce more than the thicker, creamy one. Onto our mains! The Old Fashioned Bison Short Ribs was a favorite amongst all. It's super tender and falls off the bone so easily. The sauce it comes with doesn't overpower the flavor of the bison either, but it does make it subtly sweet. I loved the veggies the sauce got all mixed in with as well, especially the broccolini. Of the two pastas, I liked the Basil Bliss Penne because it's vegan-friendly and absolutely delicious. I wish the pasta was a little more al dente, but it was still really good. More subtle flavor wise than the other pasta, and not too heavy. I can't say much about the Truffled Elk Tagliatelle since I only sampled a bit. It's on the flavorful and rich side, but my party absolutely loved this too. Lastly, for the Orchard Duck, the sauce was the delicious. I think the duck could be made a little more tender, but it did pair well with the sauce. I also liked the contrast of the crispy rice cake. There was a thin layer of outer crispy layer and the rice in the inside was more soft and mushy. All the dishes had a lot of texture variety which was amazing. My partner and I shared the Chocolate Pecan Tart which was an absolutely amazing way to end the night. Our friends shared their Baklava Cheesecake which seemed to be a popular choice given that a lot of other tables ordered it. The pecan tart was not too sweet and had a rich chocolatey taste. Service was absolutely stellar as well. Our server checked in on us periodically to make sure we were doing fine and also gave us ample time to enjoy our dishes. We were also checked in and situated quickly thanks to the lady at the check-in counter. Everyone we interacted with was really friendly. The furniture is not accomodating and uncomfortable, not even trying 2 b a bit fancy. Now I will touch the most important issue, The waitresses behave like they serve in a workers dining room, tbey were cold and unfriendly as fas as I am concerned very poor service, it felt like u guys came 2 the best restaurant say thank eat & go. The food was cold, untasty and small, I ordered a plate of Cod fish, then I tried the cheakpeas, it seemed like the balls were taken out of tbe freezer again cold & small. Brussels sprouts were quite sweet and salty, chicken was perfectly cooked, pappardelle was al dente and had lots of meat which was nice! The gyoza that came with the chicken were meh but the sauce served with it was delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly, ambiance is peaceful. Plates are made for sharing and 3 plates was plenty for 2 of us. Bathroom was very clean, place looks newly renovated. Made a reservation for 5:30 and it was quiet when we got there, busy when we left an hour later.

The burgers were good but the fries were exceptional. One person in our group also had fish and chips and that was good too. One had brunch and ordered pancakes, and those were really good that we decided to go back for breakfast the next day. For brunch the next morning, we had the Lou Lou's Omelette and some waffles. Both were exceptional and really hit the spot. Service was excellent, all the servers always had smiles on their faces and were always attentive. Loulou's also serves pizzas, ranging from the basic to special pizza pies. My partner had the Loulou's breakfast, which includes two eggs, toast, potatoes, tomatoes and your choice of meats. I had the three-cheese omelette with potatoes and toast. Both dishes were very tasty and cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the restaurant almost looks like a 1950's dinner, and is super cool and very welcoming. Soft jazz music was playing while we were there, which made it relaxing as well. Service was excellent and spot on, very polite and professional. A must if you are in the area of downtown Jasper and even just passing through!! I look forward to returning to try their pizza.

We simply picked it because they had lots of room on the patio (and Edmonton summers have not been great for patio weather). The patio was fine with a lovely view of the mountains and the VIA rail trains. They also have a rich warm dining area and an upstairs also. Good for every season. Menu was comprehensive without being too overwhelming. I liked the wild game features. They also are famous for their whiskeys. So if you like that, there will be a tonne of things for you to drink. They also have a comprehensive beer and wine menu. So we ordered a bunch of things. Everything was delicous and decently priced if you consider it being in Jasper. And what I like is that the kids menu was just the chicken finger and fries business. So the stand outs were the bison carpaccio, and the turkey club. They smoke all of their own meats, so you can't go wrong here with that. We also had the beef brisket sandwich and the short rib which were also delicious. We also loved the elk/beef pappardelle. So good we ordered it twice. Service was friendly, helpful, and quick. Try it out!

Maligne Distilling Pub at 604 Connaught Drive, Jasper…read more At the start of my two-day stay in Jasper, after checking into the Crimson Jasper Hotel, I headed down the main thoroughfare looking for a late lunch. Five minutes away I found just the thing: the Maligne Distilling pub at 604 Connaught Drive; it was outstanding. Maligne Distillers (pronounced as mah-leen) are, according to its website, "independent malt whisky-makers - both a distiller and blender in the sole service of creating exciting, innovative, world-class whisky. As a small-batch distiller we produce essential whiskies that are the vital essence of our expressions. Maturing for a minimum of 5 years, these highly-flavoured whiskies are the character actors on our whisky stage. We then blend those with an ensemble cast of blending whiskies - some we distill, and others from renowned Canadian distilleries." Upon my arrival, the first and main floor of the pub was gearing up for an afternoon FIFA World Cup match on the big screens. Hoping to avoid that level of excitement, Ellie at the host stand suggested the second-floor balcony, with its view of the rail station up close and the mountains in the background. The small flower-filled balcony catches the mid-afternoon sun perfectly in July, making this a memorable meal to be sure, based on location and scenic views alone. Wheelchair accessible; kids are welcome until 10 pm daily. The menu, too, was memorable for its diversity and the local scope of entrees and sides. There's pub food, to be sure, with snacks that include smoked chicken wings (brined, smoked, then tossed in citrus whisky or Thai chili glaze, served with fresh vegetables and ranch, $20CAD), pan fried perogies (potato, cheddar, onion, brown butter, bacon, sour cream, $16CAD), popcorn (dill pickle, cheddar, dill, $8CAD), and smoked pork belly bites (maple mustard glaze, green onion, $14CAD). The dinner menu was similarly impressive, with regional and local dishes that include elk Milanese (breaded elk cutlet sautéed with mushrooms, whisky, butter, Saskatoon berries, served with buttered mash potato and arugula, toasted almond salad, $46CAD), Alberta ribeye (14 oz, herb-smashed potato, grilled broccolini, maître d'butter, $65CAD), vegan beetroot Wellington (herb smashed potato, seasonal vegetables, red wine reduction, $30CAD), and bolognese alla tagliatelle (Alberta bison and beef, roasted garlic tomato ragu, parmesan, fine herbs, served with garlic toast, $32CAD). Looking for a light lunch and the chance to sample Canada's whiskies, I ordered a draft of the local The Bear beer ($9.75) and a four-shot (.75 oz. each) flight called Coast to Coast Whiskies. The flight ($44CAD) offered four small-batch crafted Canadian whiskies: Shelter Point Ripple Rock (BC, 46% alc./vol.), Ninety 20-year Highwood (Alberta 45% alc./vol.), Lot 40 Dark Oak, (Ontario 48% alc./vol.), and Glen Breton Ice 10 yr. (Nova Scotia 43% alc./vol.). Smooth as silk, and Ellie showed me how the use of distilled water and an eyedropper permit you to customize the experience. For my meal I chose the smoked chicken club (pulled smoked chicken, bacon, Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato, peppercorn aioli, toasted sourdough $24CAD). Fresh and filling, this was an excellent choice. Seating was spacious and scenic, the balcony was quiet (contrasting the enthusiastic crowd watching the FIFA match down on the first floor), and the restroom was clean. Great food, excellent whisky, and local craft beer. This, plus the view, plus the pub environment, offer much to recommend - a thoroughly great meal in the heart of Jasper.

We got brunch here before going on a hike and because our sandwiches were so big we only ate half and ate the rest after our hikes. I got the vegan blt (note the tofu is marinated in soy sauce so it's not gluten free) on gluten free bread and they actually gave me 2 sandwiches because the regular bread is massive. My husband got the regular blt and thoroughly enjoyed it. We both got the side of potatoes and they were warm, crispy, and creamy all at once. We liked this place so much we even ordered online the next morning and picked it up on our way to Banff. If you have any food allergies - they're super helpful and knowledgeable about their food, so be sure to ask any questions!
