I go to Lowe's just to get their bratwurst. Great guy that grills them up. Reminds me of my MN family barbecues.

Did I think I would find an extremely tasty Italian sausage sandwich outside of Lowe's Home Improvement?

It must have been an off night, I must have been grumpy, and my taste buds must have broken or something is basically all I can say for myself, but I'm SO glad I went back. J Betski's has consistently good food and their servers are always nice. They take reservations now, and you order through a QR code on the table, so it's an easy peasy experience, but if you need help there is also someone around for that. I am OBSESSED with their potato crisps and their simple cucumber salad. I get those every time we visit. They change the menu often enough to keep you interested in new things, but always have their staples available too. I'm a big fan of their Schnitzel and pirogies. My husband RAVES about their Smoked Brisket Burger. I would also argue that their Truffle Deviled Eggs are the best thing on the menu when they have them. They have great cocktails and a large beer selection. The only difficult thing about eating here is having limited space in my stomach because everything is seriously so good. Bonus: they have a dog friendly heated patio.

Nice viewing area & brewing room potential to rent sq footage for an event. Dynamite smiling face behind the bar. Happy, pleasant, engaging, knowledgeable. A kitchen that's being rented to a mixed variety food menu. We had Gyros. Great quality & great size. Ordering was seamless. They had a little something for everyone. Think food truck without the wheels! Love that they offer 2 on tap ciders (guest taps) and 2 NA options. Things to improve- All breweries do trivia, bingo & karaoke. What's something that is identifying to CRB? Just seems a bit stale to be polite. Loved their live music and guest monthly schedule. Several of the beer (specifically the coffee porter & honey wheat) were high IBU in turn being very bitter. We wanted to love the wheat and the coffee porter but both left us longing for better. So if we are a brewery... be great at that. Why are we a full service liquor bar too? A few options to appease everyone but we were surprised at the bourbon choices. Not only does it look cluttered, it clearly was selected by someone who has a preference for liquor/bourbon vs. a brew master. Maybe do a rotating cocktail list or 4-6 out of this world drinks and cut the rest. Drink prices at this price should not have pre done sour mix in them. Quality liquor should mean quality ingredients too. Big thumbs down on that. We did love the mimosa cocktail idea and the beer-rita with the use of CBR beer. Sames from 6 years ago- Chairs still suck. Parking is a little bit of an adventure but not sure there is a solution but rather just something to plan ahead for. No niche beer... still. We had their newish beers in each category. Overall... Scottish is still a solid choice. Lack of identity/theme/flagship beer (although we were told their IPA was?) Overall this place could be rocking 7 days a week! It's a good place to run by after work or gather a group and play card games, have access to a nibble & drink.

Parking is okay, spots are a tad bit limited but we found a spot just fine mid-day. Outside, there is a play area for kids across from the bar. We wanted to sit outside but it was pretty busy with families so we opted for indoor seating. The inside is pretty open and spacious with plenty of seating. I ordered a flight which was a great way to sample some of the selection. Overall, the beers were good, but not memorable. There was karaoke when we went. It was quite loud and we ended up having to shout at each other to hear one another. Again, this was mid-day, so it was odd to have karaoke going. There were quite a few kids running around, too. One of my biggest complaints about bars in this area is that too many allow kids. My husband and I are DINKS and would love to find a place that's adults-only but it's kind of hard to come by these days. I also personally think it's safer to just leave the kids at home if you're under the influence but that's just my two cents. If you are the type to bring the whole family to the bar for day drinking, you'll enjoy Compass Rose. I think I'll try them again but I'm still on the search for an authentic no-kids allowed bar. Maybe next time, I'll sit in the actual brewery section and see how that goes.

I'm always on the hunt for a good savory pastry so I got the ham and cheese croissant and it did not disappoint. Pro tip - take your pastries from the busy farmers market across the street to Dorothea Dix Park to birdwatch and overlook the city skyline! I was slightly shocked that 2 pastries were $20 - that's the only reason it's four instead of five stars!

These were the only items in their selection that had a price, $4, so I got two togo. The lemon bars and blueberry bars looked delicious, so I got two each for after dinner. We got 50 little neck clams, and needed some bread. Their sourdough looked good, so I got a loaf. The sourdough that we bought was literally the most dense bread I have ever eaten. Even soaking it in clam broth did not help. Tried an un-soaked piece, and it was like eating tough jerky. The dogs didn't even want it. After dinner I cut one each of the pastries in quarters to share. The lemon had a very slight taste of lemon (very very slight), and although the blueberry appears to be packed with fruit, it only tasted like soggy dough. (See pic). My last shot was the macaroon. I gave one to my daughter to split with me. She barely split it. The filling was like the mixed it with marshmallows. It stretched while the cookie crushed, and also did not taste good at all. I would like to think they got a new pastry chef that is learning, but sorry, at 42 bucks for that amount of food that was all bad, I'm not going to be another guinea pig. Oh, no one wanted the other lemon or blueberry bar, so sadly I threw them out.

I thought beef had a naturally salty taste but there was nothing. The buffalo chicken sandwich was decent. I think the buffalo sauce and Cole slaw saved it because the chicken didn't have much of a taste either. I ordered fries originally but they delivered potatoes to me. The server that delivered the food quickly put in an order for fries to fix the first servers error and I'm glad he did. The fries saved the meal. They were cooked perfectly and hot. I'd come back here for the fries for sure. After we got our food, the servers just forgot about us and another customer that had been there for about the same amount of time that we had. We were in the restaurant another 15 minutes trying to get the attention of a server to come give us our check. The original server never came back even though we could see him at a register near the kitchen. The new server had to ask us what our order was and ring us out under her name because our original server was doing something else nearby and not being helpful to us.

The waitress was great about bringing us everything we needed. I ordered the salmon filet on greens with sweet potato cakes. The salmon was great - perfectly cooked, and the greens seemed fresh, but the whole dish was doused in a sweet maple syrup sauce, which rendered the sweet potato cakes so soaked that I couldn't choke them down. I left most of the greens as well, since the maple syrup didn't really go with a salad. The fish was fine, as I could salt it a bit and have serve as a foil to the sauce. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. The Rueben looked amazing. So, the moral of the story is, when you go to a bar, don't try to eat healthy! Get the bar food.

TCB is the local watering hole where those wanting to escape downtown Fuquay and Varina can come…read morefor a relaxing fun atmosphere and enjoy some drinks. They have a great selection of rotating taps with a focus on German beers. They usually keep at least a couple IPA and Stout taps. They also have wine by the glass. Parking can be a bit of a pain. TCB only has two official parking spots, if there are any spots in the lot use those ones last because all of the lot frequently fills up due to Winging It next door...especially on their trivia night. So if you leave the TCB only spots open someone who can't find a spot may get one. On the bright side, Winging It takes phone in orders and will deliver it to TCB at the bar for you if you ask. Outside food is obviously welcome since they don't have a restaurant. Interesting fact, under the previous owners there was a brewery that shared space with TCB called 3rd Degree Brewhouse. They didn't survive the covid years but it was cool! They regularly have food trucks on some Fridays and Saturdays (who will ultimately steal those two parking spots). They do have some bar food including hot pretzels served with beer cheese and mustard and it's pretty good. They are super dog friendly....like if dogs bother you, don't come here. The owners dogs are sweet and behave. They are also kid and family friendly. Some of the visitors on the other hand, their owners need to train their pups a bit more. I have seen a few squabbles over the years and heard more than a few barking contests. Don't worry, they are usually calmed down fast. And I won't let you know if I was talking about the dogs, kids or maybe both. One of my favorite things is that they use Untappd. You can see their menu on there as well as check in beers as you drink them. As of writing this I have 192 check in's there across at least 6 years. I used to be a regular but I cut back on my drinking and haven't been in awhile, but I need to go to get to 200 check ins! They frequently host DJ Gino for Music Bingo which is my favorite. He also does music, karaoke, record nights, and probably some other DJ-eeyness that I'm forgetting. There are dozens of board games inside, a couple video games, Touch Tunes, TVs to watch sports, and even a golf arcade game. Outside they have corn hole and covered picnic tables with some really nice rocking chairs. Cigar smoking is allowed out front. Aside from the rotating taps, they have a huge selection of refrigerated and non-refrigerated beer, non-alcoholic beer, kids drinks like root beer and Saranack Shirley Temples, and a few other things. Tap water and cups is back in the corner. My only gripe about this place is the $2 uncharge to open a beer from the cooler onsite. Seriously bro, come one, we're already tipping 20-25% on the purchase of that $9 can, I think the bartender could open it no problem and not make it a $13-14 can of beer. This is the only bottle shop that I used to frequent that had a "cork fee" for opening beer purchased there cold. I eventually just started buying a couple to go instead of drinking them there to save the extra cost. Last bonus fact: They used to have a run club and I went a few times and was the slowest one. We ran behind Kohls in those neighborhoods. Then we'd all come over and drink the calories back on but the worst part was on run club night they served free brats with sauerkraut and mustard...so we really put back on the exercise effort.
