Live Aloha Labradoodles

A couple years ago, my twin daughters requested a dog. Although reluctant to entertain the…read moreprospect of welcoming a furry family member, we tasked the girls with finding a breed/breeds that fulfilled our list of "requirements" for type, temperament, size and intelligence. Surprisingly, our girls were resourceful and ambitious in their search, and after a relatively short time they came to us with a breed that "checked all the boxes" (my daughter's words): a Labradoodle. The search then began for where to get one (preferably a puppy). And with the regulations for pets in Hawaii, the hurdles were challenging to say the least. We looked on the mainland, Australia and on island. Although there are numerous breeders on the mainland and Australia, we also wanted a breeder that was familiar with the regulations in Hawaii and that would be willing and able to assist with bringing a pup here. We found Live Aloha Labradoodles (on island) on Facebook after doing quite a few online searches. I reached out to get more information, and requested that we set up a meeting with Veronica. We headed to Ewa, and my girls were instantly in LOVE with Veronica's labradoodles living in her home. I could see in their eyes that a new sibling was in the future. After a family discussion, we provided a deposit to be placed on the waiting list for a labradoodle pup. One should know that this IS NOT a cheap undertaking, and should not be taken lightly. We are finding out on a daily basis that a baby on four legs can be just as challenging as a human baby except they can walk, eat and generally keep themselves entertained. Wish my daughters were as independent as our newest little one. Veronica was patient with the numerous questions and requests for advise, and kept us informed every step of the process with weekly updates. Live Aloha Labradoodles specializes in Labradoodles ONLY, and they take great pride with selection of the mom and dad of the litters, and with the number of litters birthed during the year. I highly recommend Veronica and Live Aloha Labradoodles if you're considering a new addition.

Donna was willing to personally share some tips with me which I really appreciated. I have a 2 1/2 year-old Australian Shepherd, which has never been to a groomer. I bath her and brush her and trim her the best I can, but I've never taken her to a professional groomer. My husband and I decided to give Donna a try. I was fortunate enough to get a really quick appointment to have our dog groomed. I was not disappointed. Donna spent 15 minutes with me just getting to know our dog, chatting with me about what I was looking for in the grooming process and really made me feel very comfortable and confident that she was going to have a good experience with our Australian Shepherd. When we picked up our dog, she looked amazing. Donna gave us some tips about how to bathe and brush her and shared other grooming tips. This first experience was so great that we have already made her next appointment. I would recommend Donna and Kailua Pets to anyone who is looking for a great groomer who really gets to know your dog and takes pride in the service she provides. I think her calm demeanor helps to make this experience for owners and for their beloved pets a great one. Thank you so much, Donna.

(Np other groomer would take him) From the 1st phone call with Donna she put me at ease with her calm demeanor, professionalism, and her willingness to take the time that Simba would need. When we arrived her and her wonderful staff was having a very busy day due to a computer glitch. Donna handled everything calmly and graciously. She never once tried to rush the dogs though I could see her schedule was back to back. Thank you Donna and the Staff at Kailua Vets for a great experience for Simba! We will definitely be back!

Oahu German Shepherds - Hawaii German Shepherd Puppy Breeder

This review is in no way shape or form meant to bash anyone who has gotten a dog from Oahu GSD. It…read moreis, instead, to inform the choices of future potential owners and warn them. Especially because they deleted their google reviews because they got bad reviews. Firstly, I want to say from the first day I personally met the people behind Oahu GSD I should have run away. Not only did they say that "having puppies is a vacation [to the dogs]" but that many people have tried but no one on island came close to what they were doing. I agree with the second statement, namely due to the fact that no one on island is producing GSD puppies at a scale that a puppy mill would. Many of these dogs have been overbred, and are showing symptoms of it. Despite that, they are continuously bred and forced to rear pups. Not only this, but their breeding stock is not properly shown nor tested. Oahu GSD has several dogs they purchased from Germany, and once they received them they have not been tested, shown, nor have they been in any dog sports as far as I have seen. They are kept on property. Which to me means two things: these breeders do not care for their dogs outside of the money they can make from their puppies, and that the promise of "sound temperament" is empty. If you aren't testing and putting your dogs in situations where their temperament is tested, you cannot say their temperament is sound. Secondly, puppies from this puppy mill constantly are going home with health problems and health defects. My own puppy after only two days had to be rushed to the vet due to a bleeding skin infection- which Oahu German Shepherds had said was a resolved issue during their puppy-hood. The vet had to put my 8 week old puppy on antibiotics, which he said he only did due to the severity of the issue. On top of that, we had to bring her back several times for chronic diarrhea. This diarrhea has not resolved despite it being several months since we have brought our puppy home. Believe it or not, my puppy got off on a relatively mild case. I have talked to several other puppy owners from Oahu GSD and their pups have had parasites, skin infections, chronic diarrhea, and birth defects. Despite this, Oahu GSD constantly says their program is "the best." Finally, and the most heartbreaking part for me, is the reactivity and lack of confidence many of these dogs have. My own puppy has had a large amount of reactivity issues, even during her 8 week to 16 week socialization period they were incredibly reactive and fearful of other dogs. Even a dog barking on television would send her into an anxiety-ridden spiral. I do not recommend you get a puppy from this puppy mill. It is deplorable what they allow their dogs and puppies to go through, and it is a shame that they have marketed themselves to be anything other than a money making machine.
