My backstory is that I came across Wholesome Smiles around the time period when they very first opened, as I noticed the business signage when shopping at the nearby Sprouts. I gave their Instagram a follow and for over 1+ year I've seen from afar some of the great general dentistry services, cosmetic dentistry outcomes and modern technology used, which initially gravitated me towards this dental practice. My previous dentist in Redlands stopped accepting my dental insurance (delta dental ppo) as an in-network provider, so that was a large contributor to my search for another dentist that specialized in cosmetic dentistry while remaining local. Today was the day of my first appointment as a new patient. Booking was made with ease, and all new patient intake forms were completed securely online/digitally. I was kindly greeted by office staff, followed by commencing teeth scans. Before I knew it I was in my procedure room for X-rays, evaluation and an oddly satisfying (though mildly uncomfortable at times) guided biofilm cleaning. Dr. Yulia was great at listening to me describe my dental history. I explained that I am fairly concerned and self conscious of a chipped front tooth of mine that has been previously repaired with composite bonding. I further explained that I chose this practice because I knew I would be in good hands, should I need to replace or repair the composite bonding. Dr. Yulia explained some treatment recommendations after reviewing images and X-rays with me. The dental hygienist (I forgot her name- sorry!) who performed the guided biofilm treatment/cleaning was down to earth, personable, and detailed in explaining every step of the unique cleaning process. She then provided feedback, including at home dental hygiene compliments and recommendations for improvement. The appointment ended with scheduling my next visit for about 6 months out. Based on my first visit to this dental practice, I can confidently recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist in the Redlands/Inland Empire area! The first time I came I waited forty-five mins to see the doctor in a freezing room and was too chilled to go through with the treatment. I moved out of the area and got the treatment from another dentist office. When I moved back to this area, I called this office to see if Dr Yulia would be able to use the same treatment settings that worked at the out of town dentist and was overjoyed when she said yes, and I forwarded my records accordingly. Dr Yulia showed up late again to my appt and told me she would not use the modified settings that the other dentist found to be helpful, and that "patients do not dictate their treatment" and that "you don't know what you're talking about." This was after I tried to leave without an argument but she yelled after me that I would be getting a letter of dismissal. Imagine if she could have told her secretary that she wasn't comfortable doing the modified settings before I drove an hour to see her. Or if she could have apologized for the misunderstanding, breakdown in communication. Imagine, even better, if she could have mustered some collaborative spirit and used an open mind to take into account the other dentist's experience and expertise as well as her (prospective) patient's wisdom. The successful laser settings were so gentle that they didn't cause any micro tears in the tissue but instead gently nudged the area to function. Yes I don't know what I'm talking about, technically, but I do know my body and the metrics that I followed after this very gentle modification. (The full, conventional treatment was too harsh for my already inflamed tissue.) Does that not count for anything? My nighttime breath rate lowered for the first time in two years following the modified treatment. It didn't stick, no, but I've read that the conventional settings don't always last either. Imagine if I could have come home tonight to the first good night's sleep I've had in months? Unwholesome Frowns. (Yes, Dr Yulia, I am using a generic alias. No confusion or misunderstanding here. It is not in my nature to write a negative review on a business, but when it comes to health and integrity, I think it's necessary. I would also hate for someone else to have the experience that I did and pay money for unwarranted dental work. Although I had been going to my original dentist for 7 years, I was unable to get in for my regular cleaning for a couple months due to their busy practice, so I decided I would get my cleaning done at a new place this time, then return to my other dentist next time. I liked the holistic side of wholesome smiles that was stated on their website, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I went in for my appt at 3, I thought the office was beautiful, yet found it odd it was completely empty. Nonetheless, they proceeded with X-rays with what felt like 50 images. Although Lia was sweet, I found it odd that she spent that time telling me all about the how amazing the dentist is, her credentials, and how they had the most state of the art technology in the inland empire. I felt like I was being sold on something. It was unlike any experience I had had before. After about 30 minutes, I thought my cleaning would start, but I never saw a hygienist. I just waited and waited and waited. I was told the dentist would be in to examine me and "review my findings". *side note, I have never had any cavities or dental work as an adult and just saw my other dentist in December 2023 with zero concerns. Finally at 4pm, the dentist came in. Although I appreciated her being thorough, at this point, I had been there for an hour with no exam and no cleaning. After examining my teeth for about 15 minutes, I let her know that I had to be somewhere and would my cleaning be happening shortly. She said yes, but then proceeded to tell me that I had 3 cavities (one that could possibly need a root canal), and that I needed a gum graft. She also suggested I see someone for a sleep study for apnea. I was taken aback, to say the least. I'm a healthy 40 year old woman with no history of dental issues. At the point, anxiety set in and I was ready to leave, but still, waiting on my cleaning. I continued to wait, til finally the dentist just came in and cleaned my teeth herself. Rushed, nonetheless, because I had a commitment at 5pm and never expected to spend over an hour and half at a dental office. I never ever saw an actual hygienist. By 4:40pm, I finally walked out the door, knowing I needed to go get my other dentists opinion. The next morning, I called wholesome smiles first thing, requesting my X-rays. They said they would get them over to me shortly. After a few hours with no X-rays, I called again and finally got an email with a link to mychart. Once I created an account, I saw the excessive amount of images I would need to download one by one. So I called back and requested they be emailed to me. They refused, saying it was against HIPAA. After checking with multiple medical professionals in my life, requesting my own records to be sent to me is not against HIPPA. Again, I went back and asked if I could come pick up a disc of my own X-rays. They said I could come get a USB, but it would cost money. I ultimately decided to not engage with the back and forth anymore, and download each image individually. Fast forward to this morning, I finally got that second opinion from my existing dentist after he reviewed the current X-rays and my teeth in person. He found absolutely NOTHING. No cavities, nothing. Although I knew in my gut something was off at wholesome smiles, this confirmed that I could have easily been taken advantage of. Hence why I write this post--the staff was kind to me, but something was very wrong with the entire process, diagnosis, release of records, and overall experience. When talking to my dentist this morning, he said he's seeing this run rampant in the dental community. I hope this will help others to seek out second or even third opinions and be wary when choosing this dental practice. read more

My family and I just moved to the area, and I was looking forward to investing in getting some more work done on my teeth after a few years of being unable to. My first appointment went great. They explained my options and said I would schedule a follow-up to get a crown. Today, I had to cancel my hygienist appointment because I had a last-minute work commitment the next day, at the same time as my dentist appointment, and now they are charging me a $50 fee for tomorrow's canceled appointment. They claim that it's all on an agreement I signed. I kindly asked if they could waive this first-ever cancellation fee, and she said she would ask. Called me back 30 minutes later, claiming that Anita noted No, sorry. Well, I guess I'll find another dentist with a little more understanding and take my money elsewhere. It's too bad because I had just told my husband about this place. It feels like this place is just robbing us. They should show more compassion or understanding for their patients. The first visit I had in particular was very professional and the hygienist noticed a little bump in my throat which she encouraged me to get it checked out. My sister is a retired dental hygienist, and I myself have worked in the medical field for years, so I know what to look for when I am looking for good doctors. First, the moment I walk in I am welcomed by Anita, she right away made me feel at home. She is very professional and down to earth. After observing the place, I saw that Dr, Yulia made much investment into her practice for her patients.
