Wandered by on a whim, and I am so glad I did! This is the largest amount of spices I have ever seen, and I knew I had to take advantage. The girl working was super sweet and helpful with weighing, bagging, and explaining everything I had questions about. I took some time to wander around, and they really have every spice, spice blend, and powdered plant/fruit/seed you can think of! There's a whole rack of different types of salt- I was in awe. I ended up buying parsley garlic salt and white pepper, which were weighed out and put in labeled bags, and Italian seasoning, which came in a small jar. I'm already using and enjoying everything I bought! I wish I lived closer to Napa, because this spot really has everything for your spice related needs. read more

I have only been here a few times to buy spices, but every time I come I am absolutely amazed! There is such an abundance of different spices -- sweet, savory, tangy -- the flavor possibilities are endless. Sometimes, that's what makes it so hard to come here! I can literally spend an hour deciding on what spices to buy. Right now, they aren't allowing any touching or smelling of their products. You let the employee on duty know what you want, and they measure and bag everything up for you. Just keep that in mind if you're coming to browse and don't really know what you're shopping for. During this visit, I bought Matcha Salt + Sea Salt & Porcini Mushroom seasoning. Matcha Salt is a staple at my house (especially for KBBQ nights), and the Sea Salt & Porcini I wanna try on some salmon. So glad they are open during covid. It is such a small area within oxbow but they are doing a pretty good job of keeping customers at a distance, behind plexiglass, not touching anything (they will get things for you). Unfortunately you can't smell the individual spices right now, or walk around and just explore, but a small inconvenience overall. It is pretty loud in Oxbow, so it is hard to communicate with the employees since we are all wearing masks. If you need specialty spices and have lots of questions, you are probably better off going at an off peak time (not at lunch on a sunny Saturday.) Some I recognized and some I need to explore and experiment!! I absolutely LOVE the chimichurri spices. I love it on steaks! Marinated overnight and on the grill it goes! Then you make a fresh chimichurri dipping sauce for the steak!! So delicious!! Dipping the garlic bread in it is also tasty!!! They also sell lavender sugar!! It is DELICIOUS in a homemade lemonade!! So refreshing!! It is also great conversation with dinner guests!! I also enjoyed the aglio olio e pepperoncino mix!! Ooooooh my!! It was sooooo delicious with good warm bread right out of the oven!!! I also made the mix with spaghetti noodles! I was searching for Kashmiri chilis, whole not powder, for making harissa. Here they are! I was using ancho, but the real deal Kashmiri ones are so much better. Rich deep heat that adds to many middle eastern dishes. That red color is so awesome. Versatile condiment that tastes better house made. Equally at home for rose harissa! Condition was good, but not exceptional-for chilis no one else stocks, I'll take it!! Also got New Mexican chilis for Santa Fe-style stacked enchiladas. WHITE TRUFFLE SALT: you can buy this by the glass jar or $8/oz. When they open the large bulk jar to scoop your portion out, you can smell the truffles immediately all the way down to the doors! Oh the AROMA is amazing. If you pack this in your suitcase, it will make all your clothes smell like truffles. Not a bad thing, but it was so strong that I had to take it out (and gave it with my sister who lives nearby) and went back and bought a whole glass bottle, which was sealed. I use it on eggs, potatoes, zucchini...it's delicious! NORTHWEST SALMON RUB: I bought a few ounces of this rub and made salmon when we got back. This slightly sweet and salty rub turned a boring meal into something more exciting! WHITE CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY SUGAR: cookies, cupcakes, pancakes, ice cream, strawberries. So many uses for this! "Trendy" spices such as smoked paprika and a few rare sea salts are available as well as spice rubs and flavored sugars are found here too. If you are ever in the area then do yourself a favor and spice up your life with this little small batch shop of flavor! I've been multiple times since living in Sonoma. Anytime I stop by Napa, I find myself in the oxbow market parking lot. My family has a customary dish that requires dried fruit and almonds in rice. The whole spice recipe of Persian Rice is awesome! I also enjoy the fish seasoning which was so good on my trout as suggested by Nigh, the family member of the owner who provided me with suggestions and tips on using the items. The Istanbul salad seasoning which is meant to be cooked with lentils and vegetables is also my most frequently purchased items. I'm glad I stumbled across this booth at the Oxbow Public market because it's amazing! They have a wide variety of bulk spices available, from individual spices, to pre-blended options. You can smell them all and decide how many ounces you want to purchase. It's very affordable, with most of the ones that I saw going for around $3/oz. I ended up buying an ounce of the Rotisserie Chicken (which I've already used for meal prep this week and added so much flavor to the chicken thighs) and the Honey BBQ Chicken Rub, which I have yet to try, but I'm sure it'll be just as delicious. Another interesting one that we found was a Raspberry White Chocolate sugar which sounded like it would be good on top of toast for a sweet treat. We used to really enjoy coming here for the rubs and flavored sugars, but our experience today with Audrey soured us. She was so rude to everyone. I first noticed her snap at an older woman who asked her a question and she dismissed her abruptly because she was "helping someone else right now." Instead of "I'll be right with you," her tone was "Get the F out of my face." Then when my husband was bringing over some jars of spices to the measuring table, she snapped at him, "These are glass!" He apologized and tried to move them and she rolled her eyes at him and snapped at him again, "These are breakable!" Her tone was so patronizing and rude, I started to just walk away, but I decided to go back and ask her name. She completely flipped out and snapped, "Leave me alone" and threatened to call security--literally only because I asked her name. I tried to explain why I was upset about the way she scolded my husband and she started actually screaming, "SECURITY SECURITY!!" for no reason at all. Since it was impossible to reason with her, I left. As I walked off, I could hear her complaining about "all the shit she had to put up with from these people." There was no excuse for this--it wasn't even a stressful atmosphere--there were only three customers present--she was just rude and mean. After looking at all of the jars, I bought Fennel, Porcini and Maple salt. The two young ladies who assisted us also gave us suggestions as to what to use each salt on. Did not know about Whole Spice until I was wandering around the Oxbow Market. At first I was blown away by the amount of spices and various rare varieties they carried. Considering how busy it was I was also astonished that one of the two employees were able to hold almost three conversations which converted into two sales in the end. I preferred to wait instead of bother an already busy employee, which she was quite happy about. I talked to her for awhile as I find spices to be fascinating and boy oh boy she knew so much about not only the general spices, but the rare spices. Spices are very well priced, much better than other local shops and or Amazon. I ended up buying a few different salts and the almighty hinge otherwise known as Asafoetida (Great for spicy dishes). YUM, spices. I was so excited to find a place like this at the Oxbow Market. This place features specialized spices from salt and curry to tea. I bought: Matcha powder, Garlic & Parsley Salt, Sea Slat & Wild Porcini Mushroom, and Sea Salt Smoked Applewood. You can order whatever amount you want, no restrictions. You can also buy the ingredients in a jar instead of a bag. The lady working at the spice shop was able to weigh out the different spices via measuring spoon AND scale, so you tell her what you want. Since salt can go far, I only ordered 1/2 oz in case I didn't like it. My macarons turned out wonderful with the added green tea matcha powder. I compared the prices to the powder at the Berkeley Bowl and this place was definitely 2x more expensive than the matcha green tea powder at Berkeley Bowl. I'll have to cook with that brand and update this review at another time. I'll probably be back for the salts, teas, and other ingredient mixes, but probably not the matcha green tea solely based on the price (3 tablespoons = $6). read more

This spice shop, has a nice blend of different spices. You can literally find it all. I don't believe they sell specific spices by themselves. Just a mixture. Easy for you to put into curries, stews, meats. I didn't know this but I was sniffing the spice jars and my bf noticed that there were signs on the tables to sniff the caps, not the jar. Oops.....sorry! Maybe have a bigger sign for that. They also sell sugars and salt. It's fairly priced here. They charge some as low as $1 an ounce. I chose the lamb spice, and jerk spice. My daughter it's Salt as though it was a main dish. They have numerous amounts of salts so she is tasting them all. I always buy their chimichurri seasoning. This was my first time in Napa and my friend and I were just driving around town and exploring. We stumbled into Oxbow Market and were extremely excited about Whole Spice. We love to cook and we love to experiment, and coming from New Orleans, there is no place there that has the variety of spices that Whole Spice has. Our favourite purchase has to be the Smoked Yakima Applewood Seasalt out of the 12 we bought, haha. Yes we got a little out of control. We haven't been disappointed by any of the spices that we purchased, and we bought a little over 3 ozs each. I got really worried that we were running out of the Applewood, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that they sold their spices online. Score! What more can I say? Not only are the owners people, I just want be around, but their mission statement is a testament to their goodwill. They ask their employees to learn first, teach second, and sell third. so I was very excited when I came upon this place. I absolutely love to cook and I love different seasonings and spices. Myself, my boyfriend and friend were looking around for a bit, talking about the different blends etc.... I see the lady on her computer/register and she didn't once look up to greet us or asked if we needed help.
