I was scared. Like super scared and thought I was going to die. Mind you, these were my thoughts on the car ride up, not my thoughts on the actual trip. We had an amazing time. We had a group of 8 and were the only ones on the river at that time of that particular day. Dylan was our guide and he was fantastic! He made sure we were safe, but that we had the times of our lives. It was a sunny, warm summer day. But not too warm that the water felt warm. We did some swimming next to the boat, some jumping off, some cliff jumping a little over halfway into the trip(which lasted about 5 hours total), stopped for a snack of juice and cookies then had an amazing dinner at the end! They even had a meal ready for my vegetarian kid! They even have a photographer taking your picture from the sides as you're going down and the price for the pictures at the end was super reasonable! I can't say enough how great it was. I recommend them to everyone who asks where they should go. read more

This was awesome!!! I had a blast. I took my two teen boys and they loved it. My risk taker did all there was to offer including jumping off into rapid, swimming and paddling in front. My other son who is more laid back was the only one who didn't fall out, he really enjoyed himself. I would highly recommend and go back! Went with a group of people from work for a fun team building adventure. We had a beautiful sunny 80 degree day. Perfect day to be on the water.They start of with training and what to expect on the water. We had a great guide that was knowledge and fun! The tour itself is 4 hr on the river, paddling over and threw about a dozen rapids. Loved the one major drop, your adrenalin is pumping for sure. Great views of waterfalls, canyons and boulders. The staff are set up at different points on the river to take photos and back at the campground you have the option to purchase them. long the river you stop for a Snack: Cookies and lemonade. Whitewater Challengers was fun, a lot of fun...a lot of scary fun. We picked a perfect day to go (sunny and 75) and arrived at 9 am ready to rock. Our guide, Ziggy, was clearly experienced and a good storyteller. After a short safety briefing and equipment check, you are shuttled a short distance away to the river launch. The Black River has a dozen or so rapids that you traverse in your 4 hour journey. The 4 hours go by FAST so if you're concerned about battling rapids all day, don't. There are a few opportunities to jump in and swim as well as play in some of the rapids. I found that the river was challenging and offered enough thrills that you will definitely feel like you are knocking off a good bucket item list. I worried about being knocked into the water, and while this did happen once, the guides prepare you for this and there are other boats/kayakers present to lend a hand. If you're not a fan of water/swimming then this is probably not for you. The BBQ after is just a little extra gravy after an already good day. Prices are reasonable, the guides/equipment are great, and the Black River is fun. What more could a weekend thrill seeker ask for? read more

I've been here three times now over the past two years, and I freakin love it! Makes for such an awesome day with friends, everyone who I've gone with has had a great time. I did go overboard once which was not the highlight of my day (and actually rather scary for .2 seconds), but I'm still here to write this review so clearly it ended well. All of the guides that I've encountered are great, and really make the day enjoyable. The picnic lunch after is a nice way to finish the day. I can't wait to go again. White water rafting was on this 63 yr olds "bucket list." And as I was only planning on doing it once, I wanted an exciting adventure. Well, at the first big rapid and I lost my paddle, and wasn't sure I was going to remain in the raft as we were hit by a huge wave and the front of the raft was totally drenched. I was having a blast. Actually I was getting a bit cocky when at one of the rapids I was tossed from the boat all together. Fortunately, we had training on what to do in this case and Dylan, our wonderful, fun guide got me back in the boat. The trip also included swim time in the rapids and an optional cliff jump, both of which I took advantage of. To top it off, the trip was followed by a really great chicken barbecue! One last thing, This company took our safety seriously. I was on one of 3 rafts which stayed close enough together to provide assistance if needed. They also had another staff person on a kayak who was with us to help as well. (She if fact retrieved my lost paddle from the first drenching). They also had "rapid watchers" on the side banks with back boards and first aid supplies. No one needed their help but it proved to me what a very responsible company I was entrusting my safety to. read more

Our group of 16 had an amazing day on the Black River with Whitewater Challengers! The staff was professional from beginning to end, and every member of our diverse group (age, experience, fitness level) was accommodated. Everyone felt comfortable...even the nervous newbies! Of note - our boat guide, Cody, was safety-minded, funny, informative, and found the best shoot through each section of the complex Black River whitewater. Given the wet season thus far, this was no easy task! Cody read the River, the boat, and his crew with an expertise beyond his years. Went rafting here today and had so much fun! I had JJ as my guide who made it fun and easy even though it was my first time. I liked how it wasn't just rafting the entire time, we had time to swim around in the lake and cliff jump if we wanted too. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area as a fun activity. A fantastic experience. We were a family group of 12. Booking was a breeze on the website and all my questions were answered over the phone. When we arrived at the site, we were greeted immediately and were shown where to park. Check in took about 2 mins - and we got a free T-shirt for booking a group (8 or more) We then gathered with other rafters for a brief but thorough safety talk. And met our rafting guides. Once equipped with our life vests, helmets and paddles, we boarded a school bus (along with a friendly dog and a kayak). The driver hyped us up about the trip and the 15 min drive flew by. When we got to Black River our guides were there to greet us and help us on to our rafts. Our two rafting guides, Brian and Mac, were fantastic. They were excellent guides for our group of complete novices. In addition, they were very good tour guides and knew the history of the river and frequently pointed out landmarks along the way. We felt safe and had fun all the way through. The entire trip took about 3 hours (never a dull moment). About halfway through, we had a very small portage (around a dam) and were given the opportunity to rest and had a snack of cookies and lemonade. A photographer was positioned at key rapids and took beautiful photos of our ride. We were able to get out of the raft and swim at several points. And there was a cliff jump (optional). - likely my first and last but that's just me - most loved it. At the end of the trip we helped pull our rafts up a small embankment and re-boarded the bus for a 5 min ride back. When we returned we were given time to change out of our wet clothes, purchase photos ($25 for a high res digital file), peruse the small gift shop and tip our guides. Then we were treated to a delicious BBQ lunch (chicken or veg burger, baked potatoes, salad, roll, brownie). I would recommend this rafting outfitter, especially if you are new to the activity. The views as you raft down Black River are among the most picturesque I've ever seen. I would caution that this trip requires a moderate level of fitness - there is some climbing (slippery wet rocks) and lifting. read more

This place is hands down the best place on the black river to go rafting. Our guide Allie was great, she knew the water like the back of her hand. We hit the rapids perfectly and had an absolute blast. Some of the other places in town make you carry the raft about 1/2 mile which at the end of the day you are tired and they are heavy. Not at whitewater challengers! That made the trip with them way better than the others. The dinner at the end was pretty good too. All in all 5 stars! Thanks! read more

This was definitely worth our 5 hour drive from Manhattan. White Water Challengers is a great company and this is a great activity to do as a group. When you reach them, they let you pick out your wetsuits and helmets and then drive you up to the rapids on a large purple bus (approx. 30 mins). During this ride,t hey give you instructions. Mid-way, they provide lunch: peanut butter sandwich & they also have a veggie option (hummus, lettuce, carrots) that was surprisingly delicious. Our guide, Cory was so energetic and gave us great instructions throughout the ride. It was very impressive how he would stop to help out others (despite the fact that they belonged to other rafting companies) along the way. The ride was approx. 3.5 hours for us on an April day. The last hour is a bit slow (no rapids) so you just get to sit back and relax. Dinner is also provided when you get back: chicken, salad, potato salad and brownies. You have the option of purchasing a CD with your photos as well. Overall, a great experience! Will definitely do this with White Water Challengers again. read more
