We went the day after it rained and the river was moving! Our guide said that they are class 1 (and sometimes class 2) rapids. You will stop in Wolf's Cove/Creek (?) and can slide down a natural waterslide and/or go under a waterfall (it was too strong to do this during our trip). Get there 30 minutes early to get your rain jacket (if needed), life vest and helmet on. There is a 30 minute bus ride to get to the other side of the river. Tips: - wear water friendly shoes & clothes (workout type of outfit was perfect) - wear sunscreen - take off any valuables before going (they won't keep anything except your car keys for you) - go to the bathroom at the office (there is a porte-potty where the bus drops you off at the start of the rapids)

There was no one in the booth when I arrived - if this happens just take a walk around the building and there is likely someone just tending to the kayaks who will come back around. This is going to be a better deal than some of the other rental options, with 3 hours only setting you back $25. You can paddle to the left and see some of the UofR campus, but paddling to the right will allow you to head down the canal and see a lot more nature and views. The single employee pulls and pushes everyone out to the water, which blew my mind. I will absolutely be coming here again and look forward to many more trips down the river and canal.

So on my most recent visit to Rochester this past summer my cousin and I scoped out various places to rent kayaks. We settled on Genesee Waterways Center. Renting the kayaks was supper easy. We rented them for 2 hours for $25 per person. The rental process was seamless and the woman taking care of us was super friendly and knowledgeable. We kayaked along the Genesee river towards the canal. It was very peaceful and scenic. It was such a fun experience and we can't wait to go again! I'd definitely recommend this place to others. Also be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water on the very hot days.

There are not many other options but the alternatives are incredibly expensive, so much so you would almost be better off just buying one! They have nice entry level boards in good shape. And if you are renting them long enough they will drop them off and pick them up. Easy to get to on the west side of Seneca Lake. They have wet suits, life jacket, lots of equipment to purchase. When I walked up I was greeted with friendly hellos and bubbly employees. I rented a paddle board for $23 showed my license and filled out the waiver. They gave me my paddle, adjusting it to my height, and instructed me to walk down the sidewalk (literally a stone throw from the building), where there is a small beach and there was the rest of the crew waiting for me. They helped me in the water and explained the territory If where to go and where not to go and off I want. Great time, beautiful lake, just wonderful team of employees.
