Staff are all very friendly and helpful. This is a perfect location for camping or simply a nice relaxing day with family and friends. They offer small grills, tables and covered pavilions. If you're not much for grilling and rather have a quick hot bite to eat they offer a few items in their café as well. Southwick will always be top of my list when it comes to beach days in our area.

The views are amazing, the buildings at the beach look nearly new, and the lake is very beautiful. After enjoying some time in and out of the water - we were looking forward to rinsing the sand off and changing for the rest of our day. The showers in the men's bathhouse weren't working - no water. I thought...well...I can use the outdoor rinse station so I walked over and...no water! How can such a nice looking facility not have running water?!?! I get frustrated by what I consider to be dumb things like this. I think a big part of the irritation (other than the sand I couldn't rinse off my feet) was how new everything looks, but still didn't have working showers. I might come back, but the lack of showers at a state park beach I found to be enough of an irritation to five this 3 start review. Lake - wonderful Views - amazing Facilities - attractive and new looking Working showers - a complete bomb If you don't care of you have a place to rinse off after spending the day in the sand - don't hesitate for a moment. If you're like me and like that clean-ish feeling instead of the grating of sand after your day at the beach, avoid Southwick.

BLACK RIVER TRAIL IS A GREAT PATH TO WALK, RUN OR BIKE…read more=================================================== At the beginning of April 2024 my son and daughter-in-law took my husband and I hiking along this trail a couple times on different days. It's really a nice paved and scenic path along the Black River. If you look at the website it says it is 4.5 miles, but I have a feeling it is much longer. The Black River is pretty long, so it might turn into dirt trails. You can actually walk close to the Black River, but I wouldn't recommend getting in because you might drown or get swept away to who knows where. I read a report recently about someone falling in. Parking: I'm pretty sure we parked at the Trailhead located at E. Rutland Street near Stone Drive. See photo. See the website for more parking locations. Keep in mind there are no restrooms that I saw.

Thompson Park is one of those places that you sometimes take for granted when you live in the area,…read morebut it really is one of Watertown's gems. I've been coming here for years, and it's a great place to get outside, take a walk, bring the family, or just enjoy some of the best views overlooking Watertown and the surrounding area. There's a little bit of everything here -- plenty of green space, walking areas, playgrounds, picnic spots, and of course the Thompson Park Zoo. I especially enjoy just driving through the park or stopping at one of the overlooks when the weather is nice. It's also a beautiful place during the fall when the leaves start changing. What really makes Thompson Park special is its history and character. The mature trees, stonework, winding roads, and overall layout give it a feel that you don't get from a newer community park. If you're visiting Watertown, it's definitely worth taking a drive through and spending some time exploring. If you're local, it's a good reminder that we have a pretty special park right in our backyard.

NICE PARK IN WATERTOWN, NEW YORK…read more================================ My husband and I visited Thompson Park on Monday, November 18, 2024. When you get to the top of the park there is a 10th Mountain Division Monument. The view is nice up there too. The temperature was in the low fifties, but it felt much colder with the wind up there. There is a zoo up there, but it was only open on the weekend.

The staff were extremely knowledgeable about the animals and provided a lot of information. All the animals are native species to NY, so it is a smaller zoo than some others with more habitats. It took us about 1.5 houts to walk through at a comfortable pace. We got close views of almost all the exhibits. They offer elk feedings daily at 1pm for $10, which was a cool experience. There are other animal encounters you can pay for but need to schedule in advance. The ticket prices are very reasonable and so is the annual pass. Lots of immersion for kids as well and multiple play areas. Overall, a really wonderful zoo!

The bar was adequate, nothing too high-end, but everything was available. The desserts were clearly housemaid, and it was phenomenal to have a llama cake that didn't come prefab from some large distributor. I can recommend our server, Anna. She'd been there for only a month, but was perfect in her timing, demeanor, and conversation. I would recommend you go as often as you can. The dirt road on the way to the restaurant (no fault of the restaurant) Almost added to the atmosphere of finding a treasure that very few people knew about.
