Everything tasted great and when they say jumbo they really mean it. I'm the kind of person who can eat an 18 inch pizza in one sitting and I barely finished it all. The fish was hot and crispy and they did a good job with the coleslaw - a lot of places make it too sweet but Fresco knows what they're doing. Their fries are addicting - honestly I would go back just for the fries. Only thing I would say is they should switch to wooden tables and chairs and keep salt, pepper, ketchup, and napkins at every table. The food came out hot but it got cold in just a few minutes sitting on a metal table. Maybe some baseboard heating in the dining area would help too - it was 20F today and you could definitely feel the chill!

The owner's father previously owned Zkiddith Fish, a place filled with so many wonderful memories and so much history before he retired. I was happy to see his son branch out and open Fresco's and continue the family's connection to seafood. A couple of years ago, Fresco's moved to a new location near Sangertown Square, in the former Dippin' Donuts building. Our past experiences had always been so good, and the food was delicious, so I was really looking forward to one more visit before our move west. Unfortunately, this visit didn't quite live up to my memories. Perhaps it was just an off night, but the fried fish was just okay, and the shrimp weren't quite what we had hoped for. They were a little overcooked, and a few still had small pieces of shell attached. Considering we paid well over $60 for a meal for two that we brought home to serve with our own sides, we had hoped for a little more, especially at that price point. I was disappointed, mainly because I have such fond memories of enjoying seafood from this family over the years. I know one visit doesn't necessarily reflect the usual experience, and I truly hope this was just an off night. Fresco's was a place I really wanted to revisit before leaving the area, and I'll always appreciate the memories and history this family has given us through the years.

Utica's one hope for salvation seems to lie in its inexplicable appeal to Asian immigrants. I…read morepicked up a business card for Lucky Mey's at an acceptable, if unremarkable, Thai-inspired asian restaurant where my husband and I had dinner the night before. Lucky Mey's claim to be Utica's Best Asian grocery store is definitely warranted - in fact, I don't think it would be immodest for them to claim to be CNY's best grocery store, not that the competition is stiff. At any rate, this is a lovely store and should I ever have the misfortune to find myself living in Utica (not an impossibility since I just escaped a similarly dreary place in northern most reaches of NY state), I would patronize it frequently. Especially since the proprietor was incredibly friendly and impressed by my rather prosaic purchases of palm sugar, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, thai basil, and an assortment of noodles - inquiring if I had visited Thailand and if not how I knew so much about Thai food. Given her friendliness and excellent English, were I to live in Utica, I would ask her how to prepare all the unfamiliar but delicious-looking greens that the store stocked. In addition to produce, the store has a large and well-priced selection of packaged goods, a huge freezer section that I didn't have a chance to explore, and a big styrofoam cooler filled with live eels.
