Cafe CaNole is one amazing restaurant, with some fabulous and yummy deserts! The food was so flavorful and tastes. The steak sandwich was perfect, it melts right in your mouth. This was my first steak sandwich that's not difficult to chew or eat! So delicious. The dressing on the beet salad is chefs kiss . The roasted tomatoes and onions with the calamari is to die for. Service was great! Staff is helpful and friendly. Definitely get a reservations for dinner, it gets really busy! But definitely worth it. Must check out the bakery as well! Lots of parking space. Wheelchair accessible; although, it is tight in the restaurant. read more

Ran in for some last minutes pastries for dinner late on a Saturday so was not expecting much given the late hour. Selection was limited but the pastries we did get were really good. Highly recommend ordering ahead if you can as their baked goods go quickly. Love coming for pastries but am looking forward to popping in for a dinner read more

This is a great little spot in a great location! We got some tasty cocktails and split the arancini for an appetizer, which I highly recommend! I got the chicken francaise and my friend got the chicken parmesan, which we both liked. Service was quick and friendly. The dining room is small and it was pretty busy, making the place a bit loud. I had a really hard time saying no to dessert, especially after seeing all the tasty treats in the bakery display when I walked in, but there's always next time! read more

Outstanding service. Louanna was my server and she was absolutely great. I highly recommend going here. The ambiance is dark and romantic and the food is really good. Five stars. read more

I have eaten here twice and also have gotten take-out. The food has always been top-notch, and the menu is full of many Italian specialties. Plus, they have a bakery with delicious pastries. My sister had her wedding cake from here, and it was amazing. I was also impressed with the price system they use. New York State allows businesses to tack on an extra percentage fee for customers paying by credit card. This means that the prices listed in the menu include a "cash discount," thus paying by card means you pay more than what you read on the menu. At Cafe Canole, their menu prices are what you would pay by card. When you receive the bill, the prices listed are less than that, as if you are paying by cash. So if you pay cash, you'll pay that amount, and if you pay by card, you'll pay what's on the menu rather than something higher than what the menu says. I like the way they do that. read more

We had dinner at Cafe CaNole while in town for a lacrosse tournament. Everything was delicious. Three amazing dinners. I must say the Gorgonzola potatoes that came with the steak were phenomenal. The deserts are great too. And a great staff! Stop by you won't be disappointed. read more

I heard good things about this place so wanted to go to lunch with my friends on this Thursday. The hours are 12-9 per Yelp. When we walked in we were told not open for lunch! Not sure why the hours don't match the Yelp page but open for dinner at 4:00. We did take some cookies home. I thought the cannoli and pastie were expensive at 4.50 each but my friend said they were good. I bought an assortment of Italian cookies, the fig cookie was good, the vanilla cookie was good but the biscotti was soft!!! It should be hard!! Altogether I wasn't blown away by this place and they should update their hours. read more

I rarely give restaurant reviews but Cafe Canole really deserved this one! My daughter and I were doing a college tour at Hamilton, and were far from home. We were told that there was a great Italian restaurant in a nearby town, about a 10-15 min drive away. My daughter and I absolutely love Italian food, so we made a reservation, and I'm so glad we did did. First, we were so surprised by the atmosphere when we arrived. The restaurant didn't have a single empty table, nor was the bar seating. People were truly having a great time, and the restaurant was so clean, upscale, warm, and inviting. We were seated in the dining area to the rear, and we also loved the atmosphere there. We snooped around at other people's meals and everything looked amazing so we ordered a whole bunch of appetizers and meals to share. We ordered meatballs, risotto balls, calamari, two different pasta dishes, and filet mignon. (Yes, we came hungry and got a little excited). Honestly, I couldn't even begin to choose a stand-out dish because they were high-quality and all truly amazing... the portions are huge! Everything we ate was perfect. It is obvious that the owners and managers take great pride in their food, it really shows. Another thing we noticed was that most of the patrons of the restaurant were regulars, I can see why. We made some small talk with a couple sitting next to us. They were local and frequented the restaurant. They had nothing but great things to say about the food, and the owners, as well. We ended the night by ordering one of their famous canole's and a few other desserts. I'm not typically a dessert person, but they are so special. As stuffed as we were, we managed to make a good dent in the dessert, and even shared some of it with the locals sitting next to us. It was such a fun experience! Finally, a review wouldn't be a review, without talking about the service. Our waiter was so friendly. I had a glass of chardonnay (La Crema) in front of me within a minute of being seated. He was happy to discuss the menu items when I had questions, and checked on us often. Our experience and the food couldn't have been better. The Hamilton College tour will not be forgotten because of Cafe Canole! read more

There is a bakery and a restaurant each with different hours. Both the bakery and the restaurant items are on the more expensive side, however, it can be justified due to their large portions. For me personally atmosphere is very important and this is why I probably won't be returning. It is very loud and it seems as if everyone knows each other there which maybe off putting for some. Furthermore, I'm hoping it was just a bad night but the cheesecake was terrible. It tasted as if sour cream cheese was used. I've had other bakery items before and did not experience this. For those wondering they do not offer gf/vegan pasta or pastries at this time. read more

Cafe CaNole - Bakeries Near Me - New Hartford, New York

Utica and Schenectady have had a similar industrial city history (and sort of a similar fate and recent revitalization). New Hartford NY (where Cafe Canole is) is an outer ring suburb of Utica (and that's telling because it's only one town over...). which can explain the anticipated vs reality of the Utica area development... Out of industry came a very diverse ethnic mix to work out here....include (like Schenectady) a very large Italian community. They ran Utica as a city for a long time as well as wielding heavy political clout statewide w the Democratic party. Out of this Italian community came some wonderful eateries along some very unique dishes that came from the Mohawk Valley...chicken riggies, halfmoons, Utica greens (with escarole..), pusties...not too shabby for a city that now hovers around 60K. Cafe Canole is one of the finest in the area...lovingly owned and run by true chefs. They also incorporate a bakery into their eatery...so if you get a cannoli craving, they have them (and they are very very good..). The staff in Canole are professional but casual (as is the crowd..). Not a backwards cap kind of place though (dont do it..). My favorite dish is the gnocchi with sirloin tips in a light tomato sauce. Be prepared for the huge portions.. I usually skip lunch before venturing in here. The riggies are excellent as well... really everything I've had in there is very very good. I usually am out of here for work these days...so I just sit at the bar for dinner. Utica is improving in a lot of ways...the food is always a reason to get off the Thruway and come here. Cafe Canole is really 4.5 stars... read more

This is a long-overdue review of Cafe CaNole. I've been visiting this place for drinks, lunch, and dinner multiple times since moving here and it has never ceased to amaze me. First of all, parking is a breeze since it has a public free parking ground right next to the cafe so absolutely no worries about fighting for parking spots. Ambience is modern and classy at the same time, with specials written on traditional "blackboard," which is catchy. The place is not too big but feels very cozy and homey. Their lunch and dinner menu are fabulous. The calamari is wonderful, the caprese salad is great, Gnocchi Pomodoro and Linguine & White Clams are tasty to another world. Most importantly, it's the staff that are here. I'd especially like to recommend Jason, Paul, Nicole, Lauren, and Dino for their extraordinary service, friendliness and attentiveness. Every single time I visit they make sure everything is up to your satisfaction and they always have a friendly smile on their faces. They are the reason that I will be coming back all the time, and the delicious food is just another bonus. Highly recommended to everyone who likes to fine dine, grab a few drinks, or even just chill for a few minutes. Bravo! read more

Delicious food, great service, nice ambiance. Nice size pour for glass of wine ($6-7). The waitress brought out delicious crusty bread with seasoned olive oil which was amazing. I had super yummy shrimp on pesto gnocchi which was one of the specials. My husband enjoyed the grilled haddock on Parmesan risotto. The best part was the excellent chocolate coated canole with crushed pistachios. read more

Family of 6- 4 children between ages of 4-11... they accommodated us above and beyond expectations... Food was amazing!! -Ordered the chicken parmigiana - portion worth way more then cost!! -Honey glazed salmon - salmon was fresh and cooked perfectly... - kids shared pasta and meatballs that I did not get a chance to even taste... and the classic cheese flatbread-(could have been little more well done for my liking but was golden on bottom) Could taste the freshness in the food... service was sensational... bakery was an added bonus... all around great atmosphere and food ... definitely coming back and trying the tenderloin pasta dish read more

My first review ever has to be about Cafe Canole! We had a party of 12, (actually 2 groups of 6 seated at slightly different times due to scheduling issues within the family!) The food is phenomenal and the portions are like what your Italian Grandma would pile on your plate! Old school Italian dishes like Chicken Milanese, Gnocchi Pomodora and Cavatelli Piselli are enough to keep you coming back for more. Now combine that with new school specials like the fish tacos everyone enjoyed last night, or the Pesto Gnocchi and Shrimp I had, and you can never go wrong! Service was excellent, personal and attentive patient and accomodating with requests and dietary restrictions! If you actually have room for dessert, check out the pastry case, the best Italian pastries in Utica, and that is saying something because there are some great ones around here! We will be back again and again and again. Thank you, Cafe Canole, for an incredible night. read more

Great quaint restaurant with excellent bourbon manhattans and meatballs! Staff is engaging and fun.

Delicious food and presentation. Advisable to make a reservation- although you may still have to wait (but better if you have one). Service is OK. Some are very good, personable, efficient, others toss the plate, can't recall who had what. But good quality, taste & quantity override an untrained waitress read more

Food was excellent. Love the sautéed fresh spinach on top of the fish. The portions were good also.

I was in town for a work trip, went to Cafe Canole as a small group. I would say that the food gets a 5 star, the drink selection (beers in particular) get a 2 star, and service gets a 3 star... so I'll settle for 3 star overall. I had crab cakes and fries. Fries sucked but the crab cakes were outstanding. We called the place ahead of time to let them know we were coming 9 of us). Didn't seem to be an issue. We showed up and our table was ready... still not an issue. Then the server kept acting like she hasn't done a group order before. Very jerky, non attentive, disorganized... we weren't even being complicated. I probably wouldn't go back with a group but I'd return on my own if I ever happen to find myself randomly in Utica again. read more

Back to Cafe Canole before the 4th. It drives us back with its one of the kind lobster bisque, and the weekday deal $25 for 3 courses. They updated the menu a bit and the lobster bisque is a bit smaller than before I think. Flavor is still great with chunks of lobster meat. Orders haddock oregano for my entree. The rice underneath has great flavor and I love eating my fish with the rice. The Nutella crepe went back to the 25 dollar menu and I asked to put the ice cream aside. The crepe is not as good as the Vivi cafe but overall flavor is nice. We squeezed a lot of Nutella out as it was probably half of the small container of Nutella wrapped in. #foodporn #haddockoregano #nutellacrepe #lobsterbisque #thisisutica read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem set in a place you wouldn't typically find a restaurant. I am not from Utica, so I asked my friend my first night in town to take me to a place where I could flavor some local food that was fresh and light. He took me here and it was delicious! We shared 4 of their appetizers and had wine. The wine menu was very good with lots of different varieties. The crab cakes and Utica greens were my favorite, but a close second being the beet salad. The ingredients were earthy and fresh and I could tell it was local produce being used. *updated review: returned here and service was not that great. I ended up waiting about 25 minutes for a glass of wine and water. Because of that I have reduced my score by 2 stars. read more

The first time I came here was a year ago for my bday dinner and everything was on point. Now literally a year later I'm here again for my bday dinner except this time with much less people and everything was off. It started from when, we a party of three had dinner reservation at 6. We didn't get seated till almost 7. Finally got seated, ordered our drinks and dinner. We ended up watching all of the people that came in after us got their food before us. The waiter knew this too because almost an hour later he came by and apologized and offered us free drinks we took it. I ordered a lemonade raspberry martini and I was once again disappointed. Something about drinks around here never tasting good. Restaurants like this need to hire mixologists. So the waiter came around with 2 of our meals, disappointed again because it turns out it wasn't ours and i guess they thought it was for take out, but it wasn't so they had to remake it? Made no sense to me. I'm pretty positive they just forgot our meals. We finally got our meals and it was alright. I got the salmon spinach and Tuscan green beans, but I didn't see any green beans instead they gave me white beans. Once again disappointed. Salmon was cooked good, but that was about it. Oh and the bread they brought out in the beginning was good. Even though our waiter seems nice and all. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Can't beat their 3 courses for $25 menu. Very small restaurant but always fantastic. Will be back again soon!

Food was the freshest I have ever had. The gnocchi, was definitely hand made. The sauce was also obviously home made, from the chunks of garlic, and the half cherry tomatoes. I also got the cannoli cupcake to go which was also very good. Our server was quick and attentive. The only that is stopping this from being a 5 star review is the ambiance. It was very loud for the size of the restaurant. read more

Ordered the calamari and the arugula salad to go. I was right on time for pick up and it was ready. The calamari was almost cold to the touch. It had absolutely no seasoning on it whatsoever. Had a reservation for four for that we even had confirmed only to show up and be told they had no clue about it, rather rudely at that. So we waited to be seated... and waited... and waited. Around 40 minutes we were told it would be at least another 10 and we gave up. When we've eaten here previously, the food was great, some of the best in the area, but the service has never been much and after this, we won't be bothering again. read more
