As soon as you enter, you're faced with what amounts to organized chaos. The family-run business may seem to be completely asunder, but a few trips there and you get to know where everything is. If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask any of the staff. I once owned an old stove-top percolating coffee maker and the glass stopper at the top broke. Not knowing where to start looking for something like this, I went to Donovan's. Once I described the item, the only questions I was asked were "How many?" and "What colour?" Yeah, they've pretty much got everything.

But the store itself intrigued us; it's stocked not just with hardware but a huge selection of "stuff" for yard and home along with providing advice on everything from plumbing to screen repairs. It just has to be a really popular place for residents of Gananoque to shop, and since it dates back to 1872 and is operated by the fifth generation Donevan family we think that's definitely the case. Sure some of their prices are a bit more than the TSC in Watertown, but, here at Agway you can…read moreactually get someone with a smile on their face to help you. This Agway closes before I get out of work, so they let me call and pay with my credit card and they have no problem leaving my items on the back dock, which is why I patronize them. If you have a question and everyone there will usually go out of their way to try to answer and help. I'll pay a few pennies more for some great service.
