If you need to do business at a hardware store in the Old Forge/Inlet area, I strongly suggest that…read moreyou go to the ACE Hardware in Old Forge rather than the one in Inlet. Even if you live closer to Inlet it will be worth your gas and time. The customer service in Inlet is terrible. We purchased a Peerless fauet in July 2012 nad the knob cracked in less than 6 weeks. We were told in Inlet it could have been "undue stress" and the Inlet store would not take it back. While in the Old Forge store, I was looking at the units to try to get the model number so I could contact Peerless direct and an employee approached me to see what I needed. To make as long story short, he gladly processed the return, gave me a new unit and told me to return the useless repla, cement knobs to the Inlet store which we did. Today we needed a thermostat. We had received a 20% off coupon for being ACE Rewards members in the mail but it was only good yesterday. Do you think ACE in Inlet would give us a break and offer the discount today? Of course not~! I will never do business there again!

The store is down the street a couple miles from main street in Old Forge so you wouldn't walk there from all the other shops, you'd have to make a specific stop for the store but I think that stop would be well worth it. They have a decent selection of nice gifts from jewelry and hats, shoes, clothes to more traditional photo albums, etc.. They have more locally made items then most of the other Adirondack stores in Old Forge and the prices are pretty reasonable on most of the items. When I went they even had good sales on certain shoes and hats. There was one item I was interested in getting and the woman let me know that she was out of them and let me know they were china made and not locally made and I'm glad she brought it to my attention. I respected her for putting down the cheap stuff she carrys probably just due to demand from some customers, it really just let me know how much pride she took in gelling quality gifts and not putting the cheap items on the same esteem.
