Kaylie(I believe) was also working just as hard, all smiles, sweet young lady. We got some snacks from the Cafe, but the wine...so delicious. She asked if the server had told us about it, and when we said no, she turned around and loudly quipped, publicly, at the server for failing to tell us about the shindig. That definitely turned me off - tell your staff after the customer goes, please. To make matters worse, she was bragging about how much the neighbors to the winery hate their Halloween party because of the loud revelry. I don't think that's something to be proud of.

We were hosted by the most knowledgeable and gracious couple (Lisa and Francis) who were welcoming and made our first experience a memorable one. We learned about the history behind the vineyard, the amazing artwork that decorates it (inside and out) and left feeling more well versed with wine. I am normally not a Chardonnay fan but since their Chardonnay is made in a steel barrel, it doesn't have the same buttery taste that an oak barrel would.. and I LOVED IT! (if y'all read this review, I hope that's correct). I also was surprised that I really liked their Sherry, which is one of the highest proofs spirits that they serve. It was strong but it was something enjoyable to sip on! (Def went home with a bottle of each) We happened to arrive in a night where us wasn't busy so if you arrive and it looks quiet, do not leave! We ended up receiving VIP one-on-one service that may have been different if the place was packed (which they mentioned it was the night before) The couple who spent time with us were so friendly, and after noticing a gift basket assembly on the table, even let me purchase it since I live in the city and wouldn't be back up this way for a while. Our only regret was not getting there earlier in the day so that we could enjoy the outdoor experience of the venue, since the property is covered in beautiful grassy fields and sculptures that are even on some of the bottle labels. This is a highly recommended place! Ask about their cute gift baskets and make sure to go before the middle of December before they close for winter. Out of the four, the '24 Traminette stood out. It had a nice lively honey flavor and was very refreshing. Usually, I'm a big fan of their reds, but found them to be tasteless. Service was decent enough. Atmosphere is always a winner at Benmarl with views of the beautiful Hudson Valley. 3.5 Stars

Valentines weekend called for a trip down memory lane and to one of our favorite places, The Berkshires. Upon arrival our room was not ready so we looked for a wine bar/winery on Yelp. We were so thrilled to find Balderdash. They were pretty crowded since it was Valentine's Day, but we were able to grab a table in front of the live music. I ordered a wine flight (mostly from California vineyards) they don't grow any grapes here and my husband had a beer. What I also love about this place is that you can bring in your own food. I did see a bunch of couples sharing crackers and cheese. They had a cannoli cart pop up which was delicious! The live music was also great! I honestly didn't want to leave since we were having so much fun. I wish we lived closer we would be here all the time. Using grapes shipped from CA and mixing with apples crown on site, this small batch operation is a delightful stop. Specifically, I want to shout out our wine guide who took us through several of their wines. She made our experience there memorable with her amazing personality, charm, and humor. The space is small but offers a variety of options to hang out and enjoy their wines and ciders - inside by the fireplace, outside on the screen porch, or outdoors on the patio. The patio behind the tasting room offers a relaxing view away from the main road, but there's also a modern tasting room. While we only came for a wine tasting, their menu also features other drinks and food items. The employee was also friendly and helpful. Overall we really enjoyed the wines we tried and would love to come back the next time we're in the area.
