The food was decent and not outstanding. What saved it was the service. I always appreciate good prompt service. Our waitress was running around working really hard taking care of everything. Seating was pretty close to others but the decor was awesome so it balanced out.

Great location, great ambiance, great food, great service! This place goes on my recommended list for Queenstown. They are open until late, which worked out well for my friend and I since we had a long day of travel and hiking. We made reservations for 9 pm a couple of weeks in advance. I highly recommend making reservations since it is the summer and peak tourist season. We got seated immediately. Our server was a wonderful guy with sarcastic humor right up our alley. We didn't catch his name but he said he was Mexican. Shout out to him because you, sir, are definitely our kind of people! Onto the consumables: we ordered the Komodo Dragon and the Lotus Blossom for our "Woktails". They were both really good. Everything really just depends on the kind of alcohol you like. I went with Tequila and my friend went with Gin and we enjoyed it all. We also ordered the wagyu beef, shiitake and cumin shumai, the prawn and coriander crystal skin dumplings, the market fish sashimi (tuna) with coconut cream, heirloom tomatoes, chilli, lime and coriander, and the drunken noodles. The dumplings were the star of the meal. I ate the beef shumai and couldn't get over how good it tasted. Then I ate the prawn dumpling and surprisingly, it was even better! I recommend getting both if you like meat. The accompanying chilli sauce was yummy but not spicy. The sashimi was very interesting because I've not had sashimi with bells and whistles to this extent before. Usually, sashimi is all about the fish itself and some salad. This plate was a whole flavor profile with the fresh tuna, the kick of the chilli, the calm of the coconut cream, and for those of you who love coriander, the delicious raw earthiness of coriander. I didn't really get the lime. Among all the plates, the drunken noodles were a bit disappointing, especially after how good the first three plates had been. Now, this is my opinion, because my friend loved it and couldn't stop eating! The drunken noodles were sweet. They were tasty but they were sweet. I don't like my drunken noodles sweet. I usually LOVE drunken noodles (it is my go-to dish at any Thai restaurant) because there is a good spicy kick to it. Unfortunately for me, and fortunately for my friend, that wasn't the case here. Since the chilli sauce wasn't spicy either, it didn't help my case. The veggies in the noodles were delicious. In the restaurant's defence, drunken noodles was not one the recommended dishes by our server. But when I see drunken noodles on the menu, I have to order it. Always. All in all, great experience. Pricing is moderate. I recommend them for their dumplings and anything else that the serve recommends! Parking is on the street so look around! Google maps takes you to the front (which is along the harbor side so not accessible to vehicles). If you are driving and need parking, you should drive along the back of the restaurant and find parking along the street there.

Excellent lunch special! For $28 you get 4 different dumplings, the chicken and corn soup and the Pad Kee Mao drunken noodles. All of it was excellent and our server was very attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend!!

Still we ordered a few appetizers, like Chicken Satay, Prawn toast, Malaysian cabbage and we added Duck to that meal because it was suggested that the Chicken will come spicier. Anyway, the Chicken Satay is yummy with three skewers. However, the peanut sauce that came with this didn't taste like there's any peanut in the sauce as it was very pale in color. We, also, felt there's way too much sesame seeds and too little shrimp for the prawn toast with the Sriracha mayo.

Especially considering this is in the downtown area, I can see it getting packed for dinner. I loved the ambiance and decor inside the restaurant. I got the laksa after reading many reviews recommending this dish. It was on the spicy side, and it was good, but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. Next time I would try something else. I was intrigued by the Portuguese custard tarts, as that wasn't expected from a Malaysian restaurant, but I was already planning on getting dessert later, so I skipped them this time.

The main issue why I have two stars was the weird main dishes my husband and I ordered. I got a scallops and glass noodle dish. I really couldn't pin down what the flavor was, it just didn't really have much of a cohesive binder to give it much flavor. The dish my husband got was way worse. It was a spicy beef dish that was swimming in oil. I took one bite of this and was appalled at how oily the dish was, even with steamed rice to sop up the oil, it was outrageously oily. The service here was very nice and attentive, but the food is severely lacking. I would not eat here again.

Overpoweringly tomato and not at all what you hope for when you order sweet and sour chicken from a Chinese restaurant. That being said, the service was great and the staff friendly and helpful. And the prices were decent for Queenstown - $26 for my meal (which was only the meat). All in all, I'm glad I didn't have to trek over the one-lane bridge to eat dinner in Queenstown, but I wouldn't come again. On the bright side, if you bring your door hanger from the Hilton, they'll throw in a free entree for you! Just, you know, eat at your own risk. :)

On the positive side, Alivate has a great view, happy hour from 5-6pm, and friendly service. I also liked the Man o War cab blend. * Short ribs - 2.5 stars: This kind of reminded me of meat loaf, it was far from falling apart and the size of an appetizer plate. The coconut rice was good but way too mushy. * Duck crepes - 3.5 stars: pretty good but small. Comes with 2 rolls which are cut in half. * Pork Belly - 2 stars: Good chunks of poorly seasoned overcooked pork belly. How do you mess up pork belly?! Overall, great atmosphere, decent drink list - come for happy hour and maybe for a few apps.

It's an Asian fusion restaurant, very fresh food. Salads tossed in some lime vinaigrette which is what I had with my monkfish and prawn in coconut milk the first night. Very nice starters or small plates as they say, chicken wings and dip, seafood and more, just walking around the restaurant at dinner time to get to your table is a delight because you see all these beautiful dishes! With big plates you can decide between meet, fish, vegetarian, lamb. Good portions, the monkfish was good, not too much, whilst the ribeye was a huge portion! The first night we got our food super fast, but the second time it took us quite some time to get both starter and main. So I guess it varies. We were very happy with the service and the VIEW is just perfect. On the second floor overlooking the lake, dinner is served to perfection. Taste wise it wasn't always a 5/5 for me so that's why it ends up being a 4/5. Love the place though!
