This is an interesting place in Arrowtown. While most of the cuisine there caters to tourists tastes. From the bars to the hamburgers, Fan-tan tries to take Asian food and put a modern spin on things and they mostly succeed.
We started with the oysters on a half shell. We love New Zealand oysters and these were no exception. In this case though the addition of cilantro and other spices did seem to take away from the natural flavor. Sometimes simple things are best left alone.
The tempura mussels with hot Chile peppers came off better. The kick really went well with the rich flavor of the green mussels. The crunch was a bit big and nice.
Overall this is a nice spot but if you really love Asian cuisine just be aware it is fusion and be ready for some interesting takes on tradition dishes. read more
