Superb! I highly recommend this restaurant when at the Hilton or the Doubletree right across the street. Very relaxing ambiance looking at the lake with a fire pit outside.

One of my worst restaurant experiences ever. It took us an…read morehour to be served a bread appetizer. The majority of the food was well below average. Our waiter didn't seem to understand us (we speak English, English is clearly not their native language) so we had to repeat ourselves again and again and after 20 some minutes they would get our drinks wrong again and again, all night, including things like juice. Throughout the night some other wait staff would notice our drinks and plates empty for long periods of time and would help out because our waiter was nowhere to be found. The 'snowman' dessert was just like eating chalk. The gnocci dish literally had 5 pieces of gnocci laid on top of soggy eggplant. Then the last shock was the bill. We ordered a custom item which had been pre-arranged with the kitchen and when the bill came it was $200 for just the one item, not including any sides. We were told it was going to be 'market price' but I nearly fell out of my chair when the bill came. At that point in the evening we were hungry and tired and just had to get out there ASAP. Highly recommend against going here, I know there are limited options in the area but it's worth a uber to go somewhere else.

We had not paid extra for the guaranteed window tables, but we're still one table away from the views. The food is buffet-style so you can really just pick and choose what you like. Start small and move your way through, but keep in mind that they are pretty strict to the 90 min time limit - we got a reservation for around 5:45pm and they were letting us know that the restaurant was closing (I think they probably do a full clean and changeover before the next seating) around 7/7:15. It was plenty of time to eat. I liked the salads (they had a really good salmon and apple cold salad), the green-lipped mussels and venison. Desserts were decent - although the person serving the ice cream gives a pretty small scoop of one of two options (cookies & cream, and a berry one). Post-dinner coffee was limited to instant coffee. Sister is a little bit more picky and didn't like the food as much, but I was able to find enough to eat. I think it's definitely worth a visit, but would consider options in future visit.

Still we ordered a few appetizers, like Chicken Satay, Prawn toast, Malaysian cabbage and we added Duck to that meal because it was suggested that the Chicken will come spicier. Anyway, the Chicken Satay is yummy with three skewers. However, the peanut sauce that came with this didn't taste like there's any peanut in the sauce as it was very pale in color. We, also, felt there's way too much sesame seeds and too little shrimp for the prawn toast with the Sriracha mayo.

Especially considering this is in the downtown area, I can see it getting packed for dinner. I loved the ambiance and decor inside the restaurant. I got the laksa after reading many reviews recommending this dish. It was on the spicy side, and it was good, but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. Next time I would try something else. I was intrigued by the Portuguese custard tarts, as that wasn't expected from a Malaysian restaurant, but I was already planning on getting dessert later, so I skipped them this time.

On the positive side, Alivate has a great view, happy hour from 5-6pm, and friendly service. I also liked the Man o War cab blend. * Short ribs - 2.5 stars: This kind of reminded me of meat loaf, it was far from falling apart and the size of an appetizer plate. The coconut rice was good but way too mushy. * Duck crepes - 3.5 stars: pretty good but small. Comes with 2 rolls which are cut in half. * Pork Belly - 2 stars: Good chunks of poorly seasoned overcooked pork belly. How do you mess up pork belly?! Overall, great atmosphere, decent drink list - come for happy hour and maybe for a few apps.

It's an Asian fusion restaurant, very fresh food. Salads tossed in some lime vinaigrette which is what I had with my monkfish and prawn in coconut milk the first night. Very nice starters or small plates as they say, chicken wings and dip, seafood and more, just walking around the restaurant at dinner time to get to your table is a delight because you see all these beautiful dishes! With big plates you can decide between meet, fish, vegetarian, lamb. Good portions, the monkfish was good, not too much, whilst the ribeye was a huge portion! The first night we got our food super fast, but the second time it took us quite some time to get both starter and main. So I guess it varies. We were very happy with the service and the VIEW is just perfect. On the second floor overlooking the lake, dinner is served to perfection. Taste wise it wasn't always a 5/5 for me so that's why it ends up being a 4/5. Love the place though!
