This place was good - really cute and pretty spot in Queenstown. It's been recommended a bunch of people. The service was super quick and the bartenders were so nice. I thought the food was good, mushroom bao was yummy, slightly too much hoisin foe my liking. My husband loved the lamb curry

Bluekanu in Queenstown I was most excited for. Bluekanu is a feast for the senses. It has Pacific and Asian influences and all the dishes I had were very bold on flavor. The Kadoko was a citrusy crisp that I loved. I also had the salmon cones which were beautifully presented. I then go the spicy calamari and it was the perfect ending. Every dish is artfully presented, and the vibrant, tropical atmosphere makes it a dining experience you'll want to linger and hang out over.

I loved the decor and ambience in this space. It serves asian fusion and the walls are all painted with tropical birds and leaves. The music was perfect for a weekend night out. Do yourself a favor and try he Fijian fish kokoda, with sago and squid ink crackers. Its like a creamy ceviche and mine was made with a gurnard local fish from marlborough. I am definitely coming back aqain to try. Reservations recommended like all other spots in queenstown.

Best overall meal in New Zealand hands down. Gen ribs are to die for and chicken was also terrific. The service was top notch along with spacious seating to set the mood for an awesome last dinner in Queenstown!

Let me just sun this up- we were in Queenstown for 3 days, and we went here TWICE. The first night was planned. The second time was because I had to return for what I called the single best bite of food I've ever had- their version of shrimp toast. I know what you're thinking...shrimp toast, really? Yes, really. It's coated in sesame seeds and pan fried and OMG IT'S SO GOOD. But hey, maybe bread, shrimp, and sesame seeds don't sound like your perfect trifecta, in which case there are other delicious plates to choose. We also loved their version of Korean fried chicken, shaking beef, and the spring rolls. They had fun drinks as well! As we experienced at most places in Queenstown, service was on point!

The ahi nachos made with rice wrappers was so delicious! We shared the pork sliders and dumplings as well. It was a lovely day to dine outside. The establishments music next door did compete with the swanky ambiance but we made the best of it!

The food was delicious. We got the half chicken, which came with bones in (which makes sense). It was a great dish to split between two people. We each got a good amount. We started with the prawn toast which was great. The service was wonderful, they were welcoming and warm as well as timely. We recommend!

Still we ordered a few appetizers, like Chicken Satay, Prawn toast, Malaysian cabbage and we added Duck to that meal because it was suggested that the Chicken will come spicier. Anyway, the Chicken Satay is yummy with three skewers. However, the peanut sauce that came with this didn't taste like there's any peanut in the sauce as it was very pale in color. We, also, felt there's way too much sesame seeds and too little shrimp for the prawn toast with the Sriracha mayo.

Especially considering this is in the downtown area, I can see it getting packed for dinner. I loved the ambiance and decor inside the restaurant. I got the laksa after reading many reviews recommending this dish. It was on the spicy side, and it was good, but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. Next time I would try something else. I was intrigued by the Portuguese custard tarts, as that wasn't expected from a Malaysian restaurant, but I was already planning on getting dessert later, so I skipped them this time.

The main issue why I have two stars was the weird main dishes my husband and I ordered. I got a scallops and glass noodle dish. I really couldn't pin down what the flavor was, it just didn't really have much of a cohesive binder to give it much flavor. The dish my husband got was way worse. It was a spicy beef dish that was swimming in oil. I took one bite of this and was appalled at how oily the dish was, even with steamed rice to sop up the oil, it was outrageously oily. The service here was very nice and attentive, but the food is severely lacking. I would not eat here again.

Overpoweringly tomato and not at all what you hope for when you order sweet and sour chicken from a Chinese restaurant. That being said, the service was great and the staff friendly and helpful. And the prices were decent for Queenstown - $26 for my meal (which was only the meat). All in all, I'm glad I didn't have to trek over the one-lane bridge to eat dinner in Queenstown, but I wouldn't come again. On the bright side, if you bring your door hanger from the Hilton, they'll throw in a free entree for you! Just, you know, eat at your own risk. :)

On the positive side, Alivate has a great view, happy hour from 5-6pm, and friendly service. I also liked the Man o War cab blend. * Short ribs - 2.5 stars: This kind of reminded me of meat loaf, it was far from falling apart and the size of an appetizer plate. The coconut rice was good but way too mushy. * Duck crepes - 3.5 stars: pretty good but small. Comes with 2 rolls which are cut in half. * Pork Belly - 2 stars: Good chunks of poorly seasoned overcooked pork belly. How do you mess up pork belly?! It's an Asian fusion restaurant, very fresh food. Salads tossed in some lime vinaigrette which is what I had with my monkfish and prawn in coconut milk the first night. Very nice starters or small plates as they say, chicken wings and dip, seafood and more, just walking around the restaurant at dinner time to get to your table is a delight because you see all these beautiful dishes! With big plates you can decide between meet, fish, vegetarian, lamb. Good portions, the monkfish was good, not too much, whilst the ribeye was a huge portion! The first night we got our food super fast, but the second time it took us quite some time to get both starter and main. So I guess it varies. We were very happy with the service and the VIEW is just perfect. On the second floor overlooking the lake, dinner is served to perfection. Taste wise it wasn't always a 5/5 for me so that's why it ends up being a 4/5. Love the place though!
