Ate takeout so I can't speak about their inside, but the food you should be prepared to be spicy! The duck hawker was amazing and the best of the 3 items so would definitely recommend. Nasi lemak was decent but not very filling or too unique. The laksha was tasty. Everything had a kick, but it was overall quickly made and tasty. Not a bad choice if you're looking for some spice and Malaysian style food!

Never imagined I'd taste home in such a far away land. Malaysian food has a special place in my heart as it has flavors similar to the fusion of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine, and it was my comfort food of choice when I moved away from home. The Hawker Rolls were amazing with the right portion and flavor to feel refreshing and savory at the same time. The beef rendang was so freaking good! Tender meat well flavored with star anise made it absolutely mouth-watering. The egg tarts were the cherry on top. The latter was more of a nostalgia thing, and also because last month I had been in Lisbon! Anyway, great food, great place and very attentive service. If you ever come to Queenstown, and want a vintage vibe with excellent ambiance to talk to friends and combine it with comforting food, this is the place to rock it.

This restaurant came recommended to us by locals who took us on a tour. Coming from Sydney, I didn't expect the Asian food to be better in Queenstown. We came here for lunch and were seated immediately. The service was a bit snitty, but the ambience was light and airy. My friends and I each got one main dish, but the menu is more geared towards share plates. The food here was decent, but in no way was it amazing. My friend's vegetarian laksa was quite bland, and by far the worst of the three dishes. I had the squid, which is one of their signature dishes, and I recommend sticking with their signature dishes, as outlined on the menu.

I was really drawn to the interior design of this restaurant and I love Malaysian food. I had a lamb Hawker roll which was the daily roll and a Blushing Dragon for a drink, both of which I really enjoyed. Service was good also. However, my friend had the laksa and she said it was the worst laksa she had ever had. I tried her soup and it really had no flavor or spice. Also, another friend ordered a roti canai and I was surprised that she didn't get a side of curry to eat with it, which I have always gotten with roti canai.

Fried rice, plus 2 roti canai with dipping sauce. Wonderful!

My review is only for the roti canai! I absolutely love roti canai, and I can honestly say that Madam Woo's rotis were the best I have had since eating them from a roadside hut in Malaysia. If you love roti canai, you have to try this place. Hubby had the fried rice, which was also excellent. I'd go back today if I could, but we are supposed to try other places while we're here for a couple of days!

Assortment of dishes - jasmine rice, Dahl, sautéed veggies, and peanut lychee salad

We ordered in food to one of the resorts we were staying in called Azur. Being gluten free, they were able to accommodate to those dietary restrictions which was wonderful. I had the stir fry veggies which packed a punch and had great flavor and had an unexpected vegetable rarely seen in stir fries which was okra but it worked beautifully in the dish. The okra was soft and not gooey and cooked perfectly. The peanut and lychee salad although sounds odd was one of the best flavored salads with the perfect amount of sweetness, saltiness, and tanginess and the crunch from the peanuts added so much texture to this salad. The sweetness from the lychees were amazing! For my main, I ordered the Dahl which had great flavor and poured it over coconut rice which made the dish sweet yet tangy. Overall, I highly recommend trying to this restaurant if you want some unique and try a new cuisine.

    Percik Chicken Hawker Roll

I've been to China and Malaysia and have eaten at many hawker stalls and I can tell you that Madam Woo has done it right! Their food is AUTHENTIC and that's what I loved the most. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and modern. Our hotel concierge told us that it is always crowded (and it was) which is obviously a good sign. Great, friendly service. And creative, boozy cocktails! We ordered: - Sukor Spiced Sticky Chicken Wings - Percik Chicken Hawker Roll - Hainanese Chicken And Rice - Madam's Rendang (Beef) - Char Siu BBQ Pork Ribs - Stir Fried Pork Belly - Roti Canai Our entire table went crazy over all of the dishes. Everything had big, bold flavors and I still can't say enough how authentic each dish was. My personal favorites were the chicken hawker roll, Madam's rendang, and the roti canai. So so so good and probably one of the best restaurants in Queenstown. Highly recommended!!!

Madam Woo is Josh Emett and Fleur Caulton's (Rata) latest Queenstown venture. In collaboration with Jane Leong, the restaurant serves up Malaysian and Chinese street food. Not to be missed are the hawker rolls. Roti chanai stuffed with your choice of sticky pork hock, chicken and coconut or soy sesame eggplant. The pork is my personal favourite but honestly, they're all delicious! Their beef rendang is also a winner with perfectly balanced spices and well-cooked beef. At Madam Woo most of the dishes are designed to share so it's a great spot to hit up with a group - that way you can sample something from each section. Ask your waiter if you are unsure how much to order. The wine list is small but is full of options that compliment their fresh and fragrant food. However, if you're not driving, I'd recommend trying a cocktail. They have some interesting takes on classics and at $13 - $16 a pop are a steal. I tried the elderflower & cucumber Collins, which was incredibly refreshing - perfect for a hot summer afternoon! My only gripe is that the last time we went they told us there would be a 30min wait despite only two tables being occupied. Normally this would be fine, except it was at the beginning of service (6pm), they don't take reservations and without skipping up a beat they offered to escort us upstairs to their cocktail bar. To me this just seemed like a blatant ploy to get us to buy a round of cocktails before sitting down to dinner. Once up there we were tempted to ask for waters but it was a warm summers evening and a cocktail on the verandah just sounded to good to pass up. Despite this cheeky maneuver, I wouldn't hesitate to go back or to recommend to visiting friends!

Chicken Salad with Turmeric Chicken Satay

Starving, yes, yes we were... But of course, at 12:30 pm everyone and their grandma was out trying to grab a bite... We wanted to hit up Feurg Burger, but the people in line were starting to sprout grey hairs, they had been waiting so long... If I were to wait in that line, I could guarantee that Id probably eat a few people.... Er, um, gross... Any who, my friend and I walked around for a hot minute and found Madam woo... No this wasn't a fortune teller to let us know that we would soon be eating, it was a restaurant... Oh but wait, it did tell us we would get a table within 15/20 minutes... My friend and I both ordered the chicken salad and I also ordered a chicken satay appetizer and my friend ordered some bread dish. While the salad was pretty good, when I received it, it was full of crunchy things (I do not eat), hiding the chicken, which made me feel like there was none. I asked about the chicken and the woman snapped at me, ITS THERE.... Um yeah, does this dish come with a microscope? Thank goodness I ordered the satay as well, I ain't no vegan! I devoured my food in 5 seconds flat and totally could have ordered more, knowing I was going to hungry in an hour, but ordering more at Madam Woo wouldn't be worth it.... I could have easily called that my appetizer and went to another restaurant for the main event. While Madam Woo is no fortune teller, I can foresee myself NOT going back there again. There are far more tastier looking places Id like to sink my teeth into!

Chicken satay and pak choy. Looking good so far.

I'm really hard-pressed to give this place either a 1-star or 2-star review, but here goes. I heard about Madam Woo whilst on the water taxi with a bunch of Aussies who said that they were having dinner there. Due to the Asian sounding name, I thought that this would be a good place to visit, as I am a big fan of Asian cuisine. I decided to drop by here for a late lunch and give it a go. I walked into the barren restaurant (keep in mind, it's about 5:15p) and looked around, not being noticed for at least five minutes. Once the hostess came from the back, she grabbed me a menu and let me pick a seat. Considering how nice it was, I chose to sit outside. The hostess raised the umbrella for me, which allowed me to slide on the bench into the shade if I were to get too hot. Reviewing the menu, I was disappointed as there wasn't much to choose from in terms of what I'm used to at most Asian restaurants. Maybe I was picturing a Thai menu, with lots of items with vegetables, but this one was lacking. I ended up ordering the chicken satay with "pak choy" and stuck with my water. When the dishes arrived, I was excited as the chicken satay looked good and they had the peanut sauce on the side, which is nice when you actually want to taste the chicken. I took a bite of the chicken, which had good seasoning on it. I dipped and rolled the chicken into the satay sauce, wondering if it would be really peanut-y, but I never found out, as what appeared to be a pubic hair was now wrapped around my chicken. So, it ends up that I only ate the pak choy, which, for what it is, was not that bad. I brought my plates inside to the bartender, who, out of habit, asked how things were. I told him the pak choy was good, but I didn't really eat the chicken due to aforementioned incident. He removed the chicken from the bill and apologized, but being the bartender, didn't pursue it further (no pointing the hair out to the waitress, no calling out the chef, no cares really). I've had hair in my food before, typically long and not my hair color, and the staff usually apologizes like mad. Head hair can accidentally end up in a dish. Nether-region hair, on the other hand, is completely unexpected, disgusting, and done intentionally.

Queenies was just the place I needed. The Grub. Wonton Noodle Soup ($16) and Beef noodle soup ($16). The wonton soup came with skinny noodles and the beef soup came with a thicker noodle. Both topped with a bed of spinach and delicious hot broth. This hit the spot for us. I was surprised how expensive the soups were. Back home Chinese food is much cheaper.

They definitely cater to tourists because there were no locals in the area. We ordered a set of dumplings (9) that you can mix and match so we did 3 different mixes: a couple beef and chicken. We couldn't tell a difference in flavor but they were all delish so it was all good. We also ordered a size of the chicken and corn soup because it was only a few dollars extra to add on the side as well as one steamed pork bun. The soup was very good and the bowl was large. All that food was plenty for us two to share and after walking thru the chilled river hike it hit the spot! The prices were amazing. It was one of our cheapest meals and we were definitely satisfied!
