This afternoon, Valentine's Day, I took my wife (married 48 years) to White Tomato for an early dinner (3:30 pm) My wife has cancer (metastatic), currently in remission. This was a first outing for her in nearly 2 weeks and we were looking forward to a nice meal out. We were terribly disappointed. The service was minimal at best and, the host/waiter, addressed me several times, as "Boss," which was irritating. We ordered Shrimp Scampi (wife) and Chicken Marsala (me) and two side salads. The salads were dripping in a vinaigrette dressing and were very small...maybe 3/4 bites. When the waiter came to retrieve our finished salad plates, he instructed us to keep our forks for the entree. We had to set them on the table cloth, not knowing if the table linen had been used before us. There were no knives provided. Our entrees were brought to us and looked enticing. I took a bite of mine and it was absolutely tasteless, no flavor whatsoever! All the tables did not have salt or pepper, which could have at least added a little flavor. My wife's meal was the same way, flavorless. Both entrees were over $20 each. The chicken with my meal was basically one piece and I did my best to cut it with my fork, since we didn't have knives. A server brought us a tiny basket with three small pieces of bread, also no flavor whatsoever. The sauce for the bread, oil and spices, also lacked flavor. We did ask for some butter, which was provided. After just two or three bites of our food, I asked a server for two, to go boxes which were provided by our waiter. We boxed up our own food, paid our bill and left. The bill was $60+ for two entrees, two small salads and two glasses of water. We weren't asked if we'd like to order a soda or a beer or some wine. We eat out several times a week and I seldom leave a review (positive or negative). I think the last time I gave a review was about 10 years ago. All this said, we weren't impressed one bit and will not go back. I always tip generously, for good food and good service (25-30%). I elected to not tip today, especially for the costly price of a flavorless meal. There were only 4 couples in the restaurant, including us...not busy at all. We could hear workers laughing and talking, quite loudly in the background, during our visit. We were just so disappointed. How do you mess up pasta!!? Save your money and go elsewhere. Enough of this, I'm going to go heat up my pricey, tasteless entree, doctor it up with seasoning and try not to be too annoyed! Seriously??!! read more
