I visited about six weeks ago with friends. We chose this restaurant specifically because it's gluten free, but when we arrived, we were told they were unable to serve the gluten free dishes at that time. A sign on the door with this information would have been nice. The chicken Parmesan itself was pretty good, but the spaghetti served with it was meh. The best thing about this restaurant is that they were able to accommodate our rather large group, and the seating is such that we had a lot of privacy. And so it begins... I walk in Wednesday just before 5 pm. There's a group of three and me. Plenty of places to sit. Upon entering the it's quiet, which I cherish after a day in the office. It's clean, neat and organized, ready for the night's dinner guests. There a sense of pride. I'm getting the artichoke dip with Focaccia, small house salad, and baked ziti with andouille sausage. I ordered bottled water... didn't pay attention to the size. I got the big bottle. All good. Ate my bread too fast. I'm hungry and it was warm and soft with a nice chewy crust... Italian herbs on a plate, balsamic and evoo...good to go. The music is a an eclectic blend of the Temptations, easy listening and big band. Very relaxing. The food is fresh and good. They only used evoo for salad dressing... I wish it had a citrus vinaigrette to brighten the flavor. Otherwise very fresh. The baked artichoke dip is hot and fresh too. The baked ziti is hot, cheesy, meaty and just knowing the resultant and a healthy focus on non gmo ingredients and caters to vegan and vegetarian patrons is super appealing. White Tomato just opened, and it's already one of my favorite spots! Our server, Ian, was incredibly kind and patient, checking multiple items for allergens without any hesitation, which made the experience even better for me and my husband. The food was amazing--starting with the bruschetta, which was fresh, flavorful, and only $7 (easily one of my favorite parts of the meal). We also got the fried ravioli, which tasted homemade and absolutely delicious. For mains, the scampi was a standout with fresh ingredients and a generous portion that lasted me for dinner and lunch the next day. The Tuscan tortellini was just as delicious, though not quite enough for leftovers. One of the biggest surprises was the pan-roasted tomatoes--they were so well done that even my husband, who hates tomatoes, tried them and actually loved them! That alone says a lot about the quality of their food. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu, which was pretty good but had a little too much cocoa powder on top, making it more bitter than sweet. If you're looking for a true chocolate lover's dessert, though, the chocolate cake was insanely rich and absolutely delicious! I can't recommend this place enough. This new restaurant is worth a visit. All the pastas and sauces are house-made. Our party had the burrata caprese, lasagna, eggplant Parmesan, and lemon cake. The caprese appetizer was very flavorful, our favorite menu item. The eggplant is grilled and had a nice smoky flavor to it. The accompanying pasta needed more sauce, but had a good flavor. The lasagna was baked with a nice crispy edge, but needed a boost in temperature (a little tepid). The lemon cake was delicious! Our waiter, Aaron, was dedicated and professional. Wanted to give this place a solid shot about a month after it opened. Unfortunately, it's pretty bad across the board. Lackluster service that ignored us most of the time and was very slow. A marinara sauce that should be embarrassing to any legitimate Italian restaurant (Rao's jarred sauce is *significantly* better). Pasta was overcooked. Bread was bad. We have amazing Italian restaurants nearby--try Mastra in American Fork for casual, or Antica Sicilia in Milcreek for a nice night out. Both are phenomenal, not just for Utah, but for the US, period. I would like White Tomato to be great. Maybe it will be in the future if they work hard at it. But it's not good, let alone great, now. read more

Zero wait at 12:30 on a Monday. Ample parking. This place is famous for gluten free but I wasn't asked if I wanted gf bread. Just watched my friend eat the bread we were given (it's fine- I heard the gf bread is essentially a piece of store bought bread, just commentary on the service). My friend got the lunch special pesto which he was surprised to discover was a sandwich and not pasta. He said he liked the sandwich though. 4 stars. But he hated the salad. Not sure why they do it on giant romaine leaves? Cut is better!! I got the gluten free Alfredo. When it came out it had chicken, which I didn't ask for. I made sure I wouldn't be charged for the meat. She said I wouldn't. I powered through the chicken that I never wanted. Then the pasta was pretty good. Also 4 stars. When I got my check my meal was free which I thought was nice. I ate the food I didn't want so yeah, makes sense. But then the waitress noticed and took the receipt back and made me pay the original $19 for the pasta. She said it wasn't her mistake but the cook's, and if it were up to her she would have given it free but her manager would have had her butt (her words) if she'd comped the meal. We live a block away from this new restaurant, we were really anticipating their opening. I will say they did a nice job with the ambiance as far as decor and new paint. We were set by the restrooms, it was FREEZING and there was an ungodly smell coming from the women's restroom. Which wafted our table every time someone opened that door. There were about 3-4 other tables seated yet, our server seemed very overwhelmed. It could be the first week of opening and all the kinks that need to be worked through so we were patient with her. She was very nice and friendly. She brought us bread and oil. The bread was terrible! Cold and over toasted on one side. It crumbled all over the table and was difficult to bite into. I asked for balsamic vinegar thinking it would be a better flavor. She forgot 3 times and finally brought over a vinegar premixed with the vinegar. It was so separated. I couldn't get any vinegar to pick up on the bread. My kids thought the bread was so bad too they couldn't bite through it. (11 & 13) we started with the French onion soup, so disappointing! A small piece of focaccia with a tablespoon of cold melted cheese was floating in the middle of the scalding broth with only TWO spoonfuls of onions! No joke! Next we shared the lasagna and the chicken parmesan. The lasagna noodles were seriously around a quarter of an inch thick! It was extremely dry, bland, and more like eating bread than noodles. The chicken parmigiana was the best thing we tried tonight and saying that is generous. The chicken wasn't dry and well cooked, the tomato sauce was flavorless and acidic in our opinion, the angel hair pasta was mushy and overcooked. My daughter got the fettuccini Alfredo kids bowl, she liked it and ate the whole serving but I thought it was absolutely bland. My husband got a glass of Perini beer and I a glass of Pinot Grigio. We enjoyed our beverages the most. Nearing the end of our dinner the heat must have been turned up and we were able to take our coats off. We felt a little ripped off for the whole experience. Quite expensive dishes, but definitely not very good. We were really hoping for a great Italian place near us! Maybe if they make some changes and get some better "fresh" breads (not Texas dried out toast) with olive oil and vinegar separately on the table, switch up a few things and maybe we could try it again but right now, I will not plan on going again. read more

So, where do I start.... I was praying to the almighty that this place would be... just "good". My husband and I were here last night for his birthday dinner. Boy, things have changed since Smashburger was there. I know that's to be expected, but how much a space can change is amazing. The smell was incredible as you walk through the door. It's very cool that you can see where they make the noodles. The menu was pricey, but in my opinion, it was worth it . We tried the fried ravioli for an appetizer, we liked it and would ordered it again. The bread that was to brought our table before our meal was delicious with the oil and balsamic, vinegar. Our server was on top of it! I wish I knew his name so I could call him out, but we never had to stop and ask him for something. He made sure we had water and more bread when we wanted it. The service was quick and efficient. He ordered the Baked Ziti and I ordered the Piccata. We both loved the sauce and our beer and wine paired well. Many restaurants with a gluten free pasta option offer standard gf rotini w/ red sauce (which I can easily make at home) -- so to have gluten free homemade lasagne and mac and cheese and meatball tagliatelle!!!! Went here not long after open, wanted to try some Italian that happened to be next to the house. Ordered meatballs & spinach dip for appetizer's. Meatballs were excellent. Good choices of wine & our server was great. However, after the appetizers we waited an hour and 15 minutes for our meal. It actually never came to the table as I just took it to go at that point. The restaurant only had about 5 tables seated yet they sat us in the 2 person table directly in between 2 other tables, literally 2 feet of space on both sides. Love this place! The owner is the nicest guy from Italy with an amazing accent and the food is to die for. They have clearly marked vegan options. I had the vegan fettuccine Alfredo and it was so flavorful and they make their own noodles that are so good. We ordered tortellini (served in a lavender colored broth?), Cesar salad (served room temp), butter noodles for the kids (not just butter on them -they wouldn't touch them), bruschetta & onion soup. The bruschetta was fine - it's literally the only thing we ate, everything else was laughably bad!! For $65 this meal left me disappointed for days. We had hoped for the best, as Draper could really use a good Italian restaurant. We were very disappointed. Including us, there were only 2 tables occupied on a Monday around 5 pm. It is a sit down table service restaurant and the service was ok but nothing to write home about. My husband and I ordered the Lasagna and Chicken Marisela. While waiting for our entries we were provided a basket of sliced French bread with a dish of olive oil sprinkled with herbs and spices. The bread was incredibly hard and upon request we were provided with a replacement basket which went hard within a few minutes of cooling. I suspect the bread is not fresh made but warmed just prior to serving leading to the hardness problem. The entries came in a timely manner. The flavors of each was fine. The "Artisan" pasta however was sub par. The spaghetti served under the Chicken Marisela was in a clump and the texture was off. The lasagna noodles were like paper pulp (mushy) . The food is served a la carte and and we did not order any beverages, sides or appetizers; the bill, including tip came to $51.30. My friend and I were excited to try this new local restaurant. When we entered the building, we were impressed by the decor and seeing fresh pasta being made. Our server was nice and polite. However, the food is very flavorless. I ordered the chicken piccata, which was very dry with no sauce on it. My friend had the baked ziti, which was also flavorless. The server was kind and brought some additional sauce for my chicken piccata. He also offered few dessert, but they ran out of the gluten-free dessert. Overall, the experience was not worth the price. For $20 per entrée that does not include a salad, it was a huge disappointment. I have had better chicken piccata from Trader Joe's. Made a reservation to guarantee a gluten free dinner for our daughter's birthday on Saturday. On Friday, we were sent a reservation follow-up, which we confirmed. Imagine the disappointment to find out (on our own- not from the restaurant) that the restaurant was closed for "maintenance" today. Hard to understand how management wouldn't remedy this unfortunate timing with the courtesy of a phone call, text or some notification at some point today to anyone with a reservation. Nothing. Hard to pivot last minute for a gluten free friendly Italian restaurant in SLCo last minute, yet somehow we managed. Would have been nice to have some basic level of courtesy extended and minimum effort in customer service provided from this establishment. Customer service = big fat zero.
