I want the board, the committees, and the wider community to know what outstanding work is being done here--quietly, selflessly, and without any expectation of recognition. My connection to this temple goes back to 2003 or before. During those early years I was a regular here--and a volunteer. I gave my time the same way today's volunteers do, so I know firsthand what goes on behind that counter: the early hours, the hot griddles, the long prep, the cleanup, and doing it all over again the next week. Life has taken me in other directions and I am no longer able to volunteer from 2012 I guess as I once did--but I have never stopped loving and appreciating this temple. That is why, when I see the kind of service I saw this past week, I know exactly what it costs, and I cannot let it go unrecognized. I know what selfless seva looks like from the inside, and the team in Prasad Bhavan is the real thing. The food was outstanding. The dosa was so good--perfectly crisp, made fresh, and the best we have had anywhere in Orlando, Sanford, Casselberry, Longwood, or any of the neighboring cities. We have tried them all, and Prasad Bhavan is the one we keep coming back to. Two things set it apart: * The sambar and chutney. You give more--generously more--than anywhere else in the entire area. Most places skimp; you don't. * The vada. The size is really good, the kind that is rare to find anymore. Fresh, big, and made with care. It was a super best dinner -- so good, in fact, that we carried out enough for a few more days instead of cooking at home. Thanks a million. We were so grateful. Here is the part I most want the board and the world to hear: every person working in the Prasad Bhavan kitchen is a volunteer. They receive no pay and no benefit. They give their time, their labor, and their warmth out of pure devotion and selfless service -- seva in its truest form. They stand over hot griddles, prep for hours, clean up, and do it all over again the next week, for nothing in return except the joy of serving. Having been a volunteer myself in those earlier years, I can tell you -- it is hard, humbling, beautiful work, and it is the soul of this temple. They do not seek recognition, which is exactly why they deserve it. To Dr. Yogi Pattisappu -- a lifetime achievement honoree, and a man who proves it every single day. You go out of your way to help -- in the garden, in the volunteer work, in the "and what not" that never makes it onto any agenda. You make this temple feel like home, and we are lucky to have you. A temple is its people, and Prasad Bhavan is the proof. I have watched this temple grow and serve this community for over twenty years, and the spirit that built it -- the spirit of volunteers giving of themselves -- is alive and well in that kitchen today. The food nourishes the body, the volunteers nourish the spirit, and together they make this place a center of community in the truest sense. I am grateful for every dosa, every cup of sambar, every vada, and every act of service in the kitchen, the garden, and the hall. I hope the board will share this letter with the Prasad Bhavan volunteer team, the kitchen coordinator, and the volunteers' families -- so the people who did the work, and the people who share them with us, know how deeply it is appreciated. But there is one thing that has not changed, and today I am finally speaking up. That is the head priest there, Narayana Bhattar. He is arrogant, rude and uncaring. When you walk to the dieties receive blessings or to pray, he will be sitting right there. He refuses to look up from his book or his phone. When you try to exhchange pleasantries as a hint, he ignores you. We endure this humiliation time after time, donation after donation. Today I had to speak up to let people know. Only Bhattar is this way. Not the others. Narayana Bhattar's behavior is not only offensive, but hurtful. Others vistors go through the same, but seldom does anyone speak up. So I am doing so now. So be it known and visitors beware... This is the home of an unkind arrogant priest.

The teachings of this Buddhist monk is the best I have observe anywhere. We were here as a second day of mourning in the passing of my beloved aunt. All the nuns, staffs and Buddhist monk made us all feel at home. We were in prayers and the monk's teachings is something that I have always live by. The prayer was an emotional, and spiritual lesson in philosophy, way of life, in healing and support all under one roof. After the ceremony we were all invited to a vegan lunch. It was an absolute spiritual experience for me and helped in our mourning. The site is huge that includes a beautiful indoor prayer area, a lotus pond and beautiful outdoor Buddha statue , a stage where community functions takes place, an eating area where vegan meals are offered and vegan ready cooked food or vegan frozen egg rolls that one can buy. It is a community of love, support and harmony all in one. It is the teaching of "goodness" as the monk pointed out in each and everyone of us.

The stage, lights, and musicians were a full-out contemporary concert experience. It is a relaxing and laid back service: comfortable cushioned chairs down the middle, round tables on the side with the same chairs around them. There were older people, younger people, middle age people, etc. Some people dressed down in T-shirts but other people dressed nice. Anything goes. They played three songs upfront, went into long announcements, children's moment (there were over 40 kids for sure!), then there's an offering collection while the band sings. Pastor Bill followed with a relatable sermon. Then there was a closing song. The songs and the sermon went together cohesively. It was a wonderful experience and I will be coming back.

We were struck by the way the children's workers took in our two kids and made them feel at home right away. From the very beginning, our children loved the children's ministry at Avalon. I was impressed by the way their volunteers showed us around the church, answered questions and made us feel welcome. The people there are very nice and welcome you into their family right away. It's the most culturally diverse church we have been a part of, and I appreciate that very much. Biblical diversity is celebrated there. It is a diverse, yet unified, church body. The pastor preaches in a Biblically-sound, yet relatable way. He is vulnerable and honest, and that's how he builds a connection to you. He is funny and easy going. But make no mistake, he preaches from the Bible. The music is led by a contemporary worship band that easily switches from modern worship music like you would hear on contemporary Christian radio to classic hymns. The music sets the table for people to meet with Jesus. Despite having a classic-style church building, the atmosphere inside is anything but stuffy. It seems like most people wear jeans and casual dress. The senior pastor, in fact, wears jeans when he preaches. A lot of people wear shorts and sandals. Some are in khakis and button-down shirts. It's up to you what you wear. Come as you are. The people there are like people everywhere. They have their share of life issues. Things aren't always easy. I've seen Avalon Church as a sanctuary for hurting people to people find love and support and to build relationships with others. It's a family-focused church that children love. My family is better because of Avalon Church.
