Listen... I came for a "temple visit" and somehow ended up having one of the best Thai meals…read moreFlorida has to offer sitting on a big-ass group table.....Go figure. Wat Mongkolratanaram OR "Wat Tampa" is what happens when Tampa minding its business suddenly turns into Thailand for a few hours. You walk in and it's peaceful, beautiful, very Thai ... and then Sunday hits and it turns into a low-key food hustle in the best possible way. The food? NOT that fake, sweet, mall Thai food. This is the real deal. Aunties back there cooking like they've got something to prove--and they do. Pad Thai, grilled meats, curries, mango sticky rice... all hitting like you just got off a 12 hour flight in Bangkok, not I-95. Couple things--CASH only. This is not the place for your Amex Platinum or Apple Wallet personality. Also, yeah, there's a line. Relax..... You've waited longer for worse decisions..... get there early. Best part? You grab your food, walk over to the river, and just sit there eating like you've got nowhere to be. No rush, no nonsense, just good food and a vibe that makes you forget you're still in Florida. It's not fancy. It's not curated. Nobody's trying to impress you--and somehow that's exactly why it does. So, If you're anywhere near Tampa on an early Sunday morning , you must check this place out.

Service: 4/5 Food: 4.5/5…read morePrice: under $20 Being home for the holidays means returning to an old tradition of attending their Sunday market. While the set up has changed over the years, the food has mostly remained the same. Maybe to accommodate the long lines, they moved some food stalls to a tent area away from the main patio + posted a billboard menu. One big difference were the non-food tents, they used to have a plant stall, but I didn't see it this time. As it was a post-holiday weekend, they maybe limited what was open. We usually aim to arrive right at opening (~9AM) before the line for the noodle soup line gets too long. Arriving ~10:30AM/after the first wave would also work too. Point is to arrive in the earlier half of the day before food items get sold out. Tip for the temple: cover your shoulders, shorts/skirts almost to the knees, shoes off before you go in, give a small cash donation. CASH ONLY What I Recommend: - Fresh Rolls with Shrimp - Fried Sweet Potatoes - Pumpkin Curry - Noodle Soup with Thin Noodles - Pad Thai - Fried Sesame Balls - Mango Sticky Rice
