We also loved the thoughtful extras: a cozy tea bar, complimentary bikes, beach towels, and even Tommy Bahama chairs for the beach. Those little touches made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. Location is great--close to a small beach and also the town. There are several restaurants even closer you can walk to as well. If you prefer to stay at a bed-and-breakfast, then this might be a good place for you. The house was nicely furnished; my Junior suite was clean and fairly comfortable (although for some odd reason, the furniture was unusually low to the ground), and it was interesting from a historical perspective. It just really wasn't my style. One last FYI if you decide to stay there - there's no yard or street signage at any of the houses except the Nathaniel Lord Mansion - I drove around in circles looking for the Jefferds house.....

We booked the Berwick Room which was on the first floor. It is a small and perfect room for 2 with a 4-poster high bed and of course, a step-stool! Extremely clean and comfortable with multiple pillow offerings and quality bedding. The bathroom was well-equipped with a walk-in shower. If you're an early riser and love coffee or tea, there is a Keurig in the dining area. For breakfast, we walked to the dining area just before 9 a.m. to beautifully set tables and piano music playing in the background. Colorful paintings grace the walls and many windows overlooking the well-maintained grounds. Right away, you'll know that quality ingredients are used in preparing your breakfast such as fresh juices, fruits, warm baked goods, tasty syrups and quality sausage or bacon. It's a 3-course breakfast! It is within walking distance to the many stores in Kennebunkport. If you choose to just sit and relax on the premises, you'll see at the entrance of the house, a large basket full of blankets for your comfort should you want to sit outside on their porch and there may be a chill in the air. They have a small gift shop just off the dining area that offers many items you may like to bring to your room. Just sign the sheet and it'll be added to your check-out. It is NOT a modern Hotel style room. If that is what you are looking for, check into a chain hotel. These rooms furnishings were in keeping with the style and period look of Cape Arundel Inn. It was lovely, peaceful and quiet set amongst the woods, in a residential neighborhood. We had full access to the Inn and Dining (spectacular views from the dining room). They offered wine and cheese every afternoon. You could relax on the porch, by the pool, pool table or by the fireplace. They did have Portable A/C units in everyroom and during the high heat of summer, maybe a problem as they are a bit noisy. We visited Mid-October and the weather was perfect. No a/c required. My only negative is that I would have felt a little safer if the front doors to clubhouse were locked to only guests and staff, since there is no-one on duty at night. We had a lovely stay! There are lots of things we appreciate: clean, fresh-smelling rooms, good AC, good blackout curtains, and good water pressure in the shower. But there's more: a very friendly front desk staff who prepare chocolate chip cookies every afternoon, a free hot breakfast, pleasant-enough pool (heated just barely by our standards) and a good fitness room. There are a few things that didn't quite match up for us: the hot breakfast is a bit hit-or-miss depending on your preferences; there are very few places to eat close by; and a trip to Kennebunkport can take 15 minutes with moderate traffic. Bottom line: we like Hampton Inns, and this seems a good one, the positives definitely outweighing the negatives, and it's fairly priced for this area during the summer months.

I paid my room by points, made a reservation by credit card and still insisted they swipe my card for $50 of incidentals. bTW, I never have incidentals. Room. 4 stars. Large plenty of extra space. Comfortable extra chaise in addition to the desk chair. Dumb position of microwave (could not read the small numbers) under the TV and the coffee machine on a pullout shelf at floor level. Ridiculous. Nice spacious bathroom with walk in shower. Thermostat allowed you to adjust for heat or cool and it worked well. Breakfast 2 stars. Canned hash and powdered scrambled eggs. Waffle iron coated with stuck on waffle. Coffee is tepid. (As is the all day lobby coffee and "hot" water). Hotel environment 4 stars. Common areas were clean. Computer for business, extensive commissary, gym and pool all available. Parking was plentiful on our stay. Not many places to replenish supplies or get a quick meal within 1/4 mile except a convenience store next door charging almost 10% higher for gas than on the Maine Turnpike.
