As part of the B&B Vets program, which gives veterans like myself, a free nights stay in a B&B, we were very gracious for there offer, which allows, us to get out of Boston, and relax for a night. Just as an aside, this is a National program, run on the night before Veterans day. Called to make reservation, and you could here a warm voice on the other side of the phone, which made you want to leave for the B&B right away. We were not surprised when we arrived at 9:00pm. We were told to call if we were going to be later than 9:30pm on the arrival. We called from the Maine rest stop, to say we would be on site at approx. 9:00, and Kathy was very appreciative. When we arrived, we were greeted by John, who gave us a quick tour, of the B&B, with all the history. We had not eaten, so he gave us a map, with a suggestion of a restaurant that was still open at this hour. Woke up in the morning, and had a great breakfast, with decent coffee. We bought some home made granola, which was part of the breakfast, and were on our way, after a couple of hugs from Kathy, and John. Would love to come back.

We loved our stay at the Waldon Emerson -- it was a very personal and lovely experience. John and Kathy really make you feel welcome, and the breakfasts are pretty darn good -- not too fancy (a good thing, IMO), but filled with fresh and tasty ingredients. There's always a big plate of fruit and the wonderful homemade granola. We stayed in the Yellow Room which was nice, although it had a very cramped restroom. Minor quibble, for certain. If I had one big wish it would have been for better AC in the room. We were apparently in Maine during some sort of heat wave, and I understand that's not real typical of the area, though, so I understand the little window unit. There's a small poodle in the house named Waldo who's really well behaved and adorable. I may or may not have, but definitely did smuggle him some bacon in the morning. Shhhhh. I would definitely stay here again if I came back to Maine -- my family practically took over the inn and we all had a great experience. Thanks so much to John and Kathy for being wonderful

    Our room, nicely furnished room.

Absolutely adorable and charming B&B. It's very hard to find places like this. Extraordinarily eclectic. I highly recommend it. Katie

We were literally on the beach. The house was built in the 1890s and it is beautiful! It does have updates to it since then but you don't lose a bit of the charm. We stayed in the old inn keepers room on the main floor, and it had its own bathroom. Our room had a window AC unit and it's own mini fridge as well as a ceiling fan. I do think it needs more outlets but we just used one in the bathroom. They provide you with bath towels, fresh beach towels everyday, washcloths, face towels and bath mats. Resa is the manager their and was absolutely wonderful. She cooked delicious breakfasts and is available if you need anything. One day we had avocado toast, scrambled eggs, fresh baked blueberry buckle, blueberry corn muffins, and chocolate oatmeal protein cookies. Various breads, bagels, and English muffins are available as well as butter, peanut butter, and jelly. There is always coffee, tea, and water and ice on hand. In addition to breakfast the house has a whole closet FULL of board games and activities to play if you find yourself inside for an afternoon storm. There is plenty of common areas to hang out and do a puzzle or play a game. The house also has plenty of beach items for you to use including beach chairs, umbrellas, footballs, volleyballs, sand toys, bikes, helmets, and various other things. You do need to park on the street, but there was ample parking and you don't really have to move your car that often because there is so much within walking distance. Overall I couldn't speak highly enough about our stay. Consider us new regulars.

So glad we did! We stayed in room #12 with a king size bed with plenty of cozy layers to keep us warm during the chilly early September nights. The whole house was beautifully clean, warm and welcoming. It's literally a stones throw from the beach and where we all sit once we are there, so we got out of walking the mile back to the other house our friends rent. Also, the breakfast served in the morning was delicious! Homemade bread, mini egg and ham burritos and plenty of coffee, tea and OJ. I was in heaven! Not to mention, the sub shop is across the street, so anything you need is within arms reach. We will most definitely be back again next year! Even though our room had a great view of the beach, we might try for a different room just to see what they're all like. Very happy with our stay! Resa, who was the lady in charge when we were there, is super nice!

The rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the daily breakfast is generous and delicious. We also loved the thoughtful extras: a cozy tea bar, complimentary bikes, beach towels, and even Tommy Bahama chairs for the beach. Those little touches made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. Location is great--close to a small beach and also the town. There are several restaurants even closer you can walk to as well. The staff is exceptionally attentive. I am very curious at the type of training they get but they are FANTASTIC. Our waiter Tristan was great, very patient, went over to explain every dish and how it was prepared. Coffee and tea was served within 2 minutes, followed by complimentary dishes from the kitchen. We ordered three dishes: skillet breakfast, fluffy pancakes and lobster with polenta (sorry, forgot the exact name). OMG. Those pancakes were definitely fluffy and the chef didn't skimp on chocolate chips. The skillet breakfast was savory, nutritious, side salad was a nice touch. My husband loved his polenta with lobsters, he was in the carboloading mood that day. I believe the rooms at the inn are great too; I heard other visitors commenting how much they were enjoying their stay. We would love to come back as guests next time.

She was full of recommendations (i.e. Goose Rocks Beach) and was friendly and kind without being overbearing. We showed up a bit late and the key was left in a coded lock box for us. The room was compact, but fine for my husband and I for our 2 night stay. We knew beforehand that breakfast would be boxed for us and that was fine. I was happy that they provided yogurt was Chobani and actually had some protein in it (unlike most continental breakfasts that are a carb party). We rented bikes and kayaks during our stay. It was great that they had these for us to utilize. The bikes should be covered during storage, however. They were a bit rusty. This was the priciest place that we stayed during our 7 night trip, but I wouldn't consider it the best. After our stay, I do feel that our stay should not have cost us so much.

If you prefer to stay at a bed-and-breakfast, then this might be a good place for you. The house was nicely furnished; my Junior suite was clean and fairly comfortable (although for some odd reason, the furniture was unusually low to the ground), and it was interesting from a historical perspective. It just really wasn't my style. One last FYI if you decide to stay there - there's no yard or street signage at any of the houses except the Nathaniel Lord Mansion - I drove around in circles looking for the Jefferds house.....
