White Rock Park is a quarry that has been filled with water naturally and set up for day time swimming and cliff jumping, a river and lake for fishing, and an expansive camp ground. My overall review is meh, its ok. Its interesting for what it is but the clientele, the facilities, and the grounds left me uncomfortable and wanting more. The staff is wonderful and pleasant though.
You gotta find it first - I used three different map systems from my phone and was still brought to empty fields. The closest I got was by using apply maps and then following the signs. There is a handwritten sign pointing towards another sign that reads dead end. You are going the right way.
Cost/Value - Park entrance was $15 per person. This includes swimming in the quarry along with all the cliff jumping. There was a total of two zip lines, one rope swing and 5 cliff docks anywhere between 20-40 foot drop into the water. The swimming opens at 11AM and the drones of people start to arrive around noon. After noon, if the weather is nice, plan on standing in line for any of the jumps or zip lines for 15-30 minutes. While fun, the water portion lost a lot of its allure for the kids after about an hour or so of jumping.
There is a river within 30 yards that is free to fish in but bring your Indiana fishing license. The park has a small lake that is stocked with channel catfish. This is an additional fee of $12 per person. Each person can have two fishing poles. You can fish up to 12 hours or 5 fish limit, however, there wasn't anyone really enforcing the fish amount. The lake is available for fishing 24 hours a day.
The camp sites are nice, room enough for your car and a tent. Each one has a firepit. We didn't camp but there was a lot of trash left over from Saturday night on Sunday morning and the staff didn't clean it up so bring garbage bags.
What to bring - I can't stress this enough. Bring water shoes. Bring them. Bring a bunch just in case you lose one. There is no grass or sand to walk on - its all rocks and it hurts your feet. Bring a life vest for non-strong swimmers because there is NO SHALLOW PART. This is a giant hole in the ground filled with water - no shallow part. You can rent one at the park for $3 and you need to leave them your license. Bring floats. The park has an air pump. Bring towels, blankets/sheets to put on the 10x10 barely grassy area near the swimming section. There are a few picnic tables but almost everyone else had to sit on this patch of grass. Bring a cooler! You can drink at the park - no glass, no hard alcohol. There is a volleyball net and a basketball area too, just bring your own balls.
Overall thoughts - if you live close and go for the day, I'm sure its worth it. If you are spending the night, be careful. The guests in the camp ground were drunk around 9AM when we arrived and two gentlemen followed me when I walked to look at the river and asked to take my picture.... weird. The swim crowd was diverse and happy, overall everyone was having a lot of family fun.
Tips
You need to sign a waiver before participation so if you have someone else's kid, have them print it on line and fill it out before you go.
Bring cash - this is cash only and there is no nearby ATM
There are dogs that roam the park. All are very friendly but small children might be a little scared. They will jump right in the water with you for a quick pet. They are adorable.
There is a cash only food truck that serves non-alcoholic drinks and hot dogs.
Bring sports captain chairs
Get there early because the car line after 12:30PM looked like over a mile long.
They search your car. Hot tip from me to you. They go through everything. read more
