Been here twice already, and love the waves for the kiddos. Just be careful as there are a lot of undercurrents. Great for beginner surfers. Make sure your items are far up a hill enough so the water doesn't sweep away. First time, my shoes got taken into the water. Week day, parking is front row, but on a weekend, you'll be waiting for a car to pull out. Bathrooms are well provided, evening with changing tables. And it was loaded with soap. CON: Once rinsing off the kiddos from the sand, have to travel back through sand to get to car. For an adult no biggie, for the kiddos, it makes it a bit more difficult to wipe back off. Overall, whether weekend or weekday, there's always room to post on the sand. read more

This was my first time here. I typically don't like to go to beaches that don't have parking spots so I really liked that there was plenty of parking here, which made visiting super convenient. There are also restrooms available, although I didn't get the chance to check the cleanliness or overall condition. The area feels very peaceful and relaxing, with lots of benches perfectly placed to enjoy the view of the water. I especially loved coming here early at 6 am in the morning to watch the sunrise and see the surfers out catching waves! read more

Amazing beach, warm, crystal clear waters. Looks like its a well known favorite spot for locals. Our hotel nearby wasn't ready for us when we arrived so we found the nearest beach and this was it. We were amazed by how beautiful it was. The people here did not seem very happy to see us here, clearly we were still in airport clothes but that didn't matter to us, this was our first time seeing such a beautiful beach! There are signs that it is a high theft area, so we didn't stay long since we had ALL our luggage in the car. We took a few pics, put out feet in the water and left. I thought it was great that they have several lifeguards on duty. They told us many military families come here. We didnt make it back, and i wish we had, i cant stop thinking about this beach and wish we would have spent a day here. read more

Seems crazy to give any beach in Hawaii 3 stars but here is goes. We were already on the West side of the Island. Looking for a close beach near Ewa. We found this beach and decided to try it because it had nice bathroom, showers etc. The parking lot is pretty large but filled up quickly. There were signs all over the place "high theft" area. It was a holiday 4 day weekend and the beach was packed. There's no shade either. Families were piled up everywhere. Every time I would dose off some child would start yelling or crying. Children being children but so many other beaches to go to that are way more remote and less crowded. I was afraid to leave anything unattended to after reading all the theft signs and reviews. It's a surfing beach FYI. Maybe boogie boarding but mainly surfing. The waves break all over so there's plenty of surf for everyone along this Long Beach. It's not for itty bitty keiki for splashing as the current and waves are pretty strong even on "small" days. It has a handful of cabanas you can reserve(?), beach volleyball court, lifeguards on duty, showers and bathroom facility. The beach is a coarse sand and clean as it's very far from the touristy spot, this is mainly a locals beach. I see tons of military and local families here. Let them all know if they go in to visually mark a landmark as you will drift off QUICKLY if you're not paying attention. Please be careful and never turn your back on the waves (not just here). This beach is a popular surfing beach. My kids like to go to the beach. This beach is the only convenient beach with lots of parking in the Kapolei area. But speaking about the parking, I noticed a big huge red sign that a lot of theft has been happening in the parking lot. Make make sure you do not have any personal important belongings sitting in your car. This beach has a mixture of families and surfers. There is a lifeguard on the premises. And you can also find the ITT store and cottages to rent. ( if your military) . Because this area is also military property there are a lot of rules and no dogs allowed, no loud and offensive music, you can only use a certain size tent, etc. read more

Gorgeous beach, but it does get a bit crowded. Good thing we got there early. We left around noon and it was really starting to get packed. Even pre-covid times I'm not a big fan of crowded beaches. There are showers, but stalls are kind of small but it gets the job done. Great spot for surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, or just splashing around and family friendly. The sand is not as soft as some other places on the east side, and a did stub my toes on a couple rocks while splashing around with my 4 year old. If my son wasn't with me, I'd probably be catching the waves because it's pretty good here. Will probably be back when it's not as busy. read more

I love surfing here! The waves are the perfect size for anyone who wants to learn. Parking can be a pain during peak hours but eventually ppl leave. Don't leave anything out in sight in your car. There are showers to wash yourself and your board as well as a enclosed bathroom. Bring an umbrella for shade. It gets so hot! Not many shady areas. I've been to a birthday party here so you have the option to rent the pavilion. If I can recall, tents bigger than 10x10 are not allowed. There are lifeguards on duty. For the most part, it is sandy on the ocean floor with little reef spots and rocks here and there. My son and I love to paddle board out here too. Once he has the hang of surfing, I'll pass down my first ever surfboard to him. We seen little girls surfing around us, too cute! I'll definitely take my daughter once she old enough and can swim. read more

I've been coming to this beach since high school so it holds a special place in my heart lol. I used to body board a lot here and just chill on the beach. You'll see a lot of locals on this beach and not many tourists. It's also a great spot to learn how to surf. White plains is also frequently visited by monk seals that come to snooze and rest. The parking lot gets very busy during the weekend and there will be people surfing from sunrise to sunset. Down the road there is campgrounds, the coast guard, and military/DoD cabins at White Plains and Nimitz Beach that we rent about twice a year. Military ITT office is also located at white plains beach. You can rent surfboards and other gear if you are qualified. What I like most about this beach is the local atmosphere and the fact that it has a killer view. You can see the whole coastline from town to Diamond Head. The water is a beautiful turquoise when the sun is shining. There is a designated "swimming area" that is sandy. Otherwise it can be a little rocky. read more

I came here as a kid when it was still Barber's Point, a Naval Air Staion military base. For me, it is sad the base has gone. However, I am glad the beaches still remain and are thriving stronger and better. Back in the day, this beach would not have that many people frequenting it as it does today. Many local surfers come here because of the numerous sets and you do not have to go out very far. You have a nice view of Diamond Head too. And, on occasion you will see the monk seals, a turtle every now and then too. It's also great to come here for parties or just to bbq. White Plains Beach is over on Oahu's Leeward Side and yes, the parking lot sure fills up quickly. There are a lot of surfers and body boarders that come out to ride the waves. Picnic areas are available to the public but tend to fill up early on in the morning. The beach is really clean and well-maintained from what I saw when visiting that particular time. It's not exactly easy to find at first, however, so make sure you have a map! read more

This is my favorite place on the island to surf. I'm a beginner and I've been coming to this beach for about 6 months now. The waves have never let me down. I feel as though they are super constant and fun to surf. As long as you don't go too far out, the waves aren't super huge. There is a good mixture of beginner surfers, the regulars, military, and the uncles/aunties that are out surfing. I can't really explain how to get there word for word, but it's pretty far from the Kapolei freeway exit. Coming from town, it's a bit of a trek, but it's totally worth it for me. I only wish I lived down the road instead so it's more convenient to get there. The parking lot is mostly a dirt parking lot, but there is lots of space. Don't get me wrong though...as the day goes on, parking becomes more and more limited. There's a lifeguard on duty during their hours of operation. The restrooms are very clean and there's actually soap in the dispensers! It's pretty awesome because you don't see that in many public beach restrooms. read more

White Plains Beach is a great little beach tucked away in the south side of Ewa. Whats so great about it is that military can rent out equipment such as surfboard, stand up paddle boards, snorkel gear and body boards. The surf boards are only $5 an hour, $25 max. and they usually round down on the hour part! they have everything from short boards to long boards. They also have pavillions that you can rent out which you reserve in the same place you rent the boards. There is also a stage area, haven't seen anything go on up there, but hey, its there. The only downside is that the reef is really sharp when you get out there to surf so be careful! There is a designated no board zone so that kids and anybody else can just relax and swim. There are lifeguards on duty during the beach hours which are from 9am-sunset. So go out and enjoy the beach! Its worth it! read more

Location: White Plains Beach is located in Kalaeloa between Ewa Beach and Kapolei. You'll have to past the Kalaeloa Rental Homes and an air strip before you get to the beach. Parking is minimal but you can park on the open dirt area. Military Affiliation: One of the Pearl Harbor-Hickam's ITT office is located here. If your looking to book a luau or a flight package come check this place out. They do not accept cash. They accept credit card and check only. Equipment such as surfboards, paddleboard and bodyboards are available for rent. You must be military to rent out the equipment here. Beach: You can find monk seals sunbathing on the sand on most days. The waves are rough here. I normally don't swim too far out. There are a lot of rocks on the bottom so be careful where you are stepping. You'll typically see surfers, bodyboarders and sun bathers. Amenities: There are bathrooms and showers at this beach. No eateries in the area besides a vending machine. Overall, it's a decent beach to go if you live near Ewa Beach and Kapolei. read more

This is a pleasant beach with grass & bbq shelters. It is not a post card perfect Hawaiian beach with white sands and clear water. I wouldn't waste vacation time here, but it's a great place to bbq and spend an afternoon with family and friends. I didn't see any official accessibility accommodations, but I did see more people using wheel chairs than I have at other local beaches. I'm assuming this means it is easy enough to get around. It's always a plus when beaches are accessible. read more

White Plains is an excellent location for beginners to learn how to surf, which is one of the reasons I enjoy going there. The waves rarely get too large, particularly during the colder months. Because they never stop, it can be very taxing to keep up with them. It is possible for there to be a lot of people there during the weekends and off days, but the beach itself is not particularly remarkable. I love this beach, away from town. Lately, I've been coming here a lot. Open to the public, but the picnic areas are available to the public so its first come first serve or if you are military, they are the only ones that can reserve them. So you either have to know someone or come early and check and hope that no one reserved and there's something open. The place is equipped with outside showers/rinse-off areas, bathrooms, lifeguards. They have fins, surfboards to borrow too. So awesome! Also, bathrooms are clean, old & prob rusted from the salt water, but other than that, best public beach bathrooms so far. No toilet seat covers, but toilet paper is always there, seats are clean, I still wouldn't sit on it without bringing my own covers or lining them with tp, but that's just me. They have soap & paper towels so you feel clean leaving the bathroom. It's not super busy, but holidays like today was sooo busy. They have waves, so surfing is great, not that I surf, but a lot of people come here for that or boogie boarding or just swimming. Careful if it's a holiday (or not) they sometimes have DUI checkpoints. You shouldn't drink and drive anyway, but just a heads up that they have them. They had it today, being its Labor Day. I like this beach for parties, get togethers and picnics; I haven't been in the water though as it's often a little rough for me. The area is mostly kept clean and the pavilions are spread apart nicely as to where your group still has a little privacy. As with anything to do with the outdoors and food there will be flies but just hang one of those baggies filled with water with coins in them lol If you have other suggestions to keep flies away...please share as this method doesn't seem quite effective. If you're renting the largest pavilion don't get startled if you see mangoose as it's located right next to the jungle looking area. I appreciate that they have security that frequently goes around to check on everything. Bring your own toiletries as the restrooms tend to run out of toilet paper, soap and paper towels. read more

Also known as Barber's Point, White Plains is great place for beginning surfers :) On one of the days, the cousins and bf took my two nieces out for the first time. They did fabulous! Much better than my first time surfing! On our last day in O'ahu, we borrowed a couple boards from the cousins and headed out for a few hours of surfing. The waves are relatively calm so it is WAY less intimidating for novices like me. Of course the bf still pushes me out to catch the waves but hey, I'm not one to turn away help! Plus, I somehow caught a tiny little fish on my back when I was paddling out one time. Now if that's not old school Hawaiian fishing, I don't know what is! :) So grab your boards, slather on some sun block--and head to White Plains to catch some waves!!! read more

SMELLS FOR DAYS 1/5 STARS I came here many times while growing up. I would go beach or camp with my family and have bonfires with friends. As I got older, the campsite and beach area became "Hooverville-ish." The homeless population has grown, the pollution and littering has increased and it just doesn't feel safe or clean. I just do my best to avoid coming here and never recommend people coming to this area. BEACH The beach is OK. There are lots of waves, the water isn't that clear and there is reef almost everywhere. There are a few spots were you can swim out to a sandy pit, but majority of the place has reef. I always leave with an unknown scratch on my foot, leg or arm. The sand is good. Not rough or rocky, but the swimming part just sucks. I still jump in the water and just tread water the whole time to avoid placing my feet on the reef. CAMPSITE Stinkness. There seems to be many wet spots of water with mosquitoes and it smells really stink. There is ponding everywhere from the shower waters or the hoses people use to bring water closer to their campsite. The still standing water creates algae build up and creates a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. The smell of old water is nasty. Also, the homeless live between the campsites and the odor from their unwashed clothes and makeshift homes are disgusting. I randomly get a swift of their smell and feel like vomiting. I really suggest the campgrounds security or beach security to escort the homeless elsewhere and for groundskeeper to fix the drainage problems onsite. My niece came home with bites all over her body and face because our site was so near to the ponding areas. Hopefully the state or park workers could address these concerns ASAP so campers and beach goers could have a fun, safe and odor free time at White Plains like it used to be. read more

My family has been coming to this beach for awhile especially on days that are hot and we want to just catch a session at the beach, we'll head out to White Plains. The waves are usually blown out at times but it's all right for us considering our sons are paddling out there with us. On an island with great beaches, Barbers Point sticks out. It's not Waikiki or the North shore, but Barbers Point has a lot to offer that other, more well known, beaches are seriously lacking. To start off with, Barbers Point ain't touristy or commercialized. Outside of the occasional guy selling Pickled Mangos out of his car, you aren't going to find food trucks or overpriced restaurants. But, because those things aren't here, this place also doesn't have hordes of tourists. Now, Barbers Point is probably a bit different from your typical tourist sunning spots because it wasn't a public beach until the Airbase was downsized in the late 90s. Locals know about the spot, and it's still a favorite for the military, but it's rare that outsiders venture this far off the reservation. As far as the beach is concerned, it's perfect for beginner surfers and body boarders. Compared to the North Shore, it's a bit more congested on the Beach, but nowhere near as packed-in as Waikiki. Another fun aspect of Barbers Point is the prevalence of Monk Seals. I don't think I have ever been to this beach when there wasn't a Monk Seal sunbathing. I've seen as many as four seals here at one time, so it can be like a poor mans Sea World. One challenge with so many seals is that volunteers rope off 20 feet of beach around each seal to keep the riffraff away (I can just see the kids going all Free Willy without the ropes). But, 20 feet of rope on each side means less beach for frolicking in the sun: four seals packs us in like sardines. On another note, don't cross the rope unless you'd like to drop up to $1500 in fines: big no no. For those wannabe surfers, the Military Water Recreation (MWR) rents surfing equipment. So, if you're wanting to test out your surfing skills (or practice your wipeout recovery), Barbers Points' learner waves are right for you. read more

Sand is clean and great place to just hang out and chill. Great place to learn where to surf if you haven't been before because the waves are pretty calm. This was my go-to beach for the four months I was living in Upper Makakilo. I can't say enough great things about this beach! As others have mentioned, military types can rent stuff for use seven days a week including all holidays. There's lifeguards on the main drag right off the parking lot. The water there is segregated for surfers and swimmers and the lifeguards keep a good watch and call out anyone that passes over the buoys into the wrong lane. Saw seals there on the beach on several occasions. The lifeguards will rope off the area to keep people from getting too close - don't have to tell me, look at those teeth! But was fun to see them laying around on the sand. Lots of people are going here to do the stand-up style paddle boarding which looks like great fun. Will definitely try that one day. I bought a pair of Vibram Five Fingers specifically for running on the shoreline and for swimming here as there's lots of big rocks and coral under the waves here and I got cut a couple times. One of my workout routines was to come here in the afternoons after the gym and swim in the strong waves near shore. Then I'd come up on the beach, sit down to relax. There's a lovely view of Diamond Head and Honolulu in the distance. The wind is always blowing so cooling off is never an issue. Lots of sun on this side of the island as well. Out of a few dozen times going here I was only ever clouded out twice - got my tan going so good! I loved it at WPB and I can't wait to hang out there again.
