This park is so cool. Away from most of the crowd (park does get crowded but not overcrowded) There are 3 pavillions but they are reserved for the military. Even without the pavillions this park is a cool alternative. ( no homeless that I could see) Lots of parking...public bathrooms...place to swim with showers..beautiful views...like most beaches in our paradise home its awesome!! Lucky we live Here in Hawaii

I love going around the island and visiting different beaches and I always end up comping back to this one beach. My favorite! Dog friendly but a little rough waters and there sometimes isn't much laying area during high tide so be sure to check before heading out! Ample street parking but fills up fast on holidays and weekends. Family kids and dog friendly!

We originally wanted to go to the beach houses but we soon found out that no pets were allowed. I was so sad!!! But luckily, Nimitz Beach was a few minutes away. There's plenty parking!! We were so lucky!! I was sad to see the amount of trash near the road and grassy areas. I mean the trash can is a few feet away. Anyways, the beach itself is beautiful. It's a great view of Honolulu. Our "neighbors" were helpful too. We forgot our hammer to put our stakes in, but thankfully a man let us borrow a hammer. There's a reef barrier near shore and I liked it. It was a safe area for children and dogs to play in :) My dogs LOVED it! I heard that there's a shower there, but we didn't see and there's no bathroom in sight. I would suggest to plan ahead if you'd like to come to this... or else there's Tamura's down the road :)

Growing up mostly on the West side (Ewa Beach & Kapolei) this was our go-to beach. I can't remember how long Kalaeloa, formerly known as Barbers Point, has been open to the public but pretty much since after that point we've been regulars. I am not even a beach/ocean lover but for the sake of the rest of my family I will visit. I'm a total beach bum type to just sprawl out on the sand, shades on and just play dead. That's why I prefer this beach to many others. It's not crowded or loud. Around the bushes it can be a mess with rubbish or lord knows what else... but for the most part, the sand and ocean is clean as can be I guess. Every now and then there will be lifeguards riding around on quads, checking on the perimeter. Makes me feel safe that someone's looking out periodically. Certain parts around the shore line there will be some tide pools to check out a tiny bit of shallow marine life. For the most part the waters aren't crazy rough, but never under estimate the ocean... The area that we set up tent is right after the "camping grounds" following the tall trees. There isn't really parking so you just find a spot on the side of the road and you're good. As long as we've been going, we've never gotten cited but still, I would park at your own risk. A little further down the road there is a beach park. I've attended a few parties there so I know you're able to have a bounce house and BBQ. I have never hosted so I would have no idea how to go about doing so. I've also heard there are cabins available to rent but again, no knowledge about that I can share... If you're on the West side and looking for a beach to chill out at, I definitely recommend having a beach day here. Be prepared and bring lots of snacks, drinks and shade. It is the West side, more known for being hot and dry! The nearest store would probably be Tamura's but still it's a bit aways so just stock up well to avoid beach bum interruptions.

It is so totally and completely worth the drive out here, and I can say without any hyperbole that it is nothing like any other beach I've been to before. What initially may not look like much is actually its charm and what makes Nimitz so special. There's a nice strip of sand that's just enough for yours truly to walk up and down without being too exhausted. The sand is super fine, soft, and perfect to walk on, sit, or lay out. The air is sweet and clean and refreshing. And, as other Yelpers will attest to, the sunsets are absolutely picturesque. The best things of all, thanks to Yelp's inept directions, is its desolation is quite serene and calming (as it should be). So maybe I should be thanking Yelp? Nah. So be warned: find directions here elsewhere or be prepared to venture to parts of Hawaii that no one should or want to ever visit.

First time I came here was in the early 70s. The park area is much different today. The grass was much greener then because it was part of Naval Air Station, Barber's Point. It was a nice beach then accessible to military service men and their families. When the base was closed under the Reagan Administration the existence of this beach disappeared lost in the annals of history. Then, a map was found that talked of beach where monk seals are known to appear. Spear fishing is good. Sometimes, if you go far enough, deep enough, you may get slipper lobsters. More abundant before, so few now. As the knowledge of this beach became more known, it is happily frequented by families for special occasions. I was recently there for a birthday party and a baptismal. I will be attending another birthday party soon. The tide pools and soft sand make this beach wonderful to visit and can afford gorgeous sunsets during the right time of the year. Great to bring your dog here. One restroom facility does exist in the park area. Many times it is clean but there are those times where I don't want to step in. This is a beach after all. There are no life guards here. It is still patrolled and enforced by the military because of the Coast Guard Air Base still actively present next to the beach. Be careful, be safe, don't psst them off. If you do, it could be a federal offense.

What a GEM!!! My husband and I stumbled upon this beach after a very vague description from a co-worker. This is minutes away from where we live. I'm almost afraid to yelp about this "secret spot," since I do not want a multitude of humanity converging on my piece of heaven. But something this wonderful must be shared. All along Coral Beach Road (past White Plains Beach & across from Coast Guard Barber's Point Station) exists a long strip of beach - fairly untouched and only populated by the few who know about it. Parking is alongside the road and the beach only a stone's throw away. Tidepools are abundant in this area and it is not unusual to see a monk seal basking in the sun (as we did on the first day we discovered this place). At the end of Coral Beach Road there is a fenced in area that provides picnic shelters and such. Parking is available and appears to be safe...but you never know. This area at the end of Coral Road is aka Nimitz Cove. The beach is beautiful!!! If you are looking for a place to chill with your family or just with your significant other - this is the place to be. Also, this is a perfect spot to enjoy the sun setting without the hassle of trying to find parking. Be wary though, I wouldn't want to be caught in this area too late in the evening - it's pretty isolated.

    Beautiful ocean waves...

What can I say about this beach? A hidden...TREASURE! I came here to celebrate my family reunion and I was impressed. What I liked: Directions- very easy to find Parking- tons of parking. Don't have to worry about going early to find parking. Open to the public-anybody can come here. No need to have military ID unless you want to rent open pavillions. Pavillion- very spacious and large covering. Lots of nice picnic tables. Near beach access. Beach- the ocean was cool and refreshing. Beautiful water and ocean waves...perfect for boogy boarding and surfing. A little rough, especially as the day went on. Must supervise children ... no lifeguard on duty. -the sand was soft, smooth and silky. -there are tide pools. We saw ama'ama crabs, pipi'i sea snails and I also saw a large sea snail ( the size of my palm- what a GEM!) I'm looking forward to visiting this BEAUTIFUL beach very soon. Go check it out, too!

If you are a veteran and find yourself in Hawaii... I highly recommend Barbers Point in Oahu. Very quiet and peaceful. These 1-2 bedroom cabins have everything you'll need for a great family get away.

Nimitz Beach is accessible for surfing, lounging, picnicking and strolling. At the beginning of this year's (March 2020) pandemic HPD was ticketing surfers parked by the road. Now they'll stroll the beach occasionally or have a post setup further down the road (back to town) checking for beach drinkers in the afternoons or early evenings. ‍ The campsite area has been cleaned up and has regular trash removal. Please pack your trash or place in the available garbage cans. There are port-a-potties throughout the camp area and a shower tucked in there to for washing sand off bodies and boards. Any houseless in the area further down the beach. I personally love lounging here when White Plains is overcrowded.

Attended a b-day party here at Pavillion #1817. The pavilions can be rented through MWR (military). It was a fantastic party for the kids here. The part of Nimitz Beach where this pavilion is located was great (end of Coral Sea rd) . Not crowded and a huge parking lot (we could see our cars from the pavilion too so they were safe). The water was great for little ones too.

    Ahhhh.......Beautiful!!! I Love Watching Sunsets!!!

Again....This is about 15-20 Minutes away from my home! There is a lot of Parking, but I'd suggest keep your car within "seeing" distance. This is White Sand, and there is Plenty of room for anyone! I like to go here beause of again The Location, and you can see the sun set!!!! Beautiful.... This place is good if you just wanna gather your thoughts, walk along the shore, eat your plate lunch, or even take your family!!

Guess this isn't so secret anymore :-)…read more Very safe and peaceful lagoon to snorkel in with lots of fish and an occasional sea turtle or seal sighting. Parking is tough here as the only official parking lot is small. Thankfully we were staying close by and was able to walk here. The lagoon has lots of tropical fish and is fairly shallow where you can stand in most of the spots. Decent amount of beach sand area to lay out your towels and catch some sun.

Prior to walking over from the Marriott I did my homework on social media regarding the route. Many said the lagoon was nestled between Disney Aulani and the Four Seasons. Wrong. It's actually between the Lanikuhonua Institute and Paradise Cove Luau. We were walking along the public promenade adjacent to the public access lagoons. Came to a dead end by the Four Seasons resort property. I asked a stranger was he looking for the Secret Beach. It turned out he's a local. He gave me very good directions. That's how we found the Secret Beach. Once we were there we saw two Hawaiian monk seals beached. With a sign posted - keep 10 foot distance. As for turtles I spotted one in the lagoon swimming. It didn't come ashore. This was about 10:30am. There were plenty of folks in the water. So maybe we were the only ones who were challenged in locating the beach. If it weren't for the seals I thought the beach wasn't as enticing as the the area by the resorts. This is a very small footprint. Here there's no public restrooms. And for trash receptacles there are three heavy duty plastic trash bags taped to the the metal chain fence near the beach entrance. Interested in going? If you're on foot coming from the Marriott - walk on Ali'i Nui Dr past the Aulani entrance driveway and the four way street signal lights. Keep walking on the main drag until you see a small parking lot on the left. Make a left and head up to the parking lot. Walk toward Paradise Cove Luau. You'll see a very small entrance. Walk through the entrance and voila. You've arrived.
