    Dog friendly:)

Me and my friend decided to visit my uncle and cousins while they were at their beach house and wow, private beaches are the best things. Great view, relaxing, and beautiful breeze. I liked that there wasn't many people here so you can really take the time to relax and enjoy the view. Of course me and my niece had to have a game of volleyball which was honestly my favorite part. This is a gated community, but others are welcomed and of course it's dog friendly so my pup loved it.

Hopefully non-residents will be able to swim once we get clearance.

Some security will allow you to swim sometimes and some (Lanelle H) kindly will let you know that swimming is strictly for residents only. So swimming is allowed but depending on who is working. Called Security Manager to verify/clarify and she informed me that she is aware of the stay at home orders but unable to forward me any updated beach regulation. She then requests me to call housing manager because she doesn't have a copy or phone that can forward the email or inform me where I can find this for myself.

This is a wonderful beach and so happy it is close to where I currently live. I use to run to this beach when it was an active military base. Now, it has been converted to a very gorgeous beach that has a great view of Diamond Head, Waikiki and the airport. You can watch the planes taking off and land. So mesmerizing. lol. As you drive into the housing area, the guard gate still stands and you will need to check in to get a pass. You'll be asked for your intentions. Let them know you are going to the beach. You'll need to show license and registration. Some times they ask for insurance card. Have that ready just in case. When they hand you the pass they'll let you know where you can go and park. I take that under advisement. My favorite time to come is in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Koolaus while I cook breakfast. That's usually fried rice and coffee. I enjoy it very much. A great way to kick off the day indeed as the day begins to warm up chasing the chilliness away. Sunsets are okay here but that's just me as I prefer other spots for that. However, I do find it nice to sit here, and read, listening to the breaking of the waves as the sun goes down and the evening cools. The golden hour warms up the colors unveiling a view come to life in the last hour of the sun. So, there are several cabanas for the residents of the community. The restroom facilities are well maintained. You will see security guards drive by several times too. At times, I feel like I'm the only one there because I am. However, I do feel safe. Even past the sunset. The sand pebbles making it hard on your feet. In the water, it's even worse but they're not too sharp. However, you may want to use aqua shoes or some kind of foot wear for protection. Snorkeling here is not bad. One time there were a couple of eagle rays that came close to us in the water. I tried to get closer but they swam too fast back out to sea. You can see some fish around the jetties but be careful as the water can get rough in these areas. In fact the wave action here is strong. If you go past the jetties, there is a strong, sometimes, swift current there. That could be the reason why they put those jetties in. They weren't there before when I initially came to the beach way back when. There always seems to be dogs here. Fun to watch going into the water chasing whatever item was thrown out. We are dog lovers. Many owners will allow us to interact as we get to know them. If you do have a Military ID, you can visit the PX for quick shopping for items like charcoal, sun screen, snacks, drinks, etc. In case you forget something. Else, you'll have to stop by in Ewa Beach. You can also fill up on gas there too. Get directions at the gate. So, if you're looking for a quiet beach, just want to get away from the hustle and bustle, some place nice to walk then this is the spot. Just don't tell anyone else. lol

I must say....for this being an island community there is a lack of BEACH UMBRELLAS or TIKI STYLE shading - the exception being this beach as well as Ko'Olina Beach. I love being out in the open just as much as the next person, however there is something lovable about being under an umbrella on a beach chaise. This beach has JUST THAT! If you are tired (if i can say that - being this IS Hawaii) of the regular beaches likes Ala Moana, Kailua, Sandy's or even North Shore...you should try this one. It's secluded deep in the outskirts of Ewa Beach. Yes, Ewa Beach. Accessibility to this beach is somewhat humbug, having to clear the security gate at Kapilina Beachfront Apartment (it used to be Waterfront at Pu'uloa) In the past you security required ALL occupants in the car to sign a release to enter the beach area but now I was told that you either have to be a resident there or be a guest of the resident. We explained that we just wanted to go to the beach and didn't realize the current changes. We were let in and were given a pass to display on the dash. I read in another review that there are only but a few passes given out daily but I haven't confirmed that personally. Once you've hurdled that obstacle it's pretty easy thereafter. Parking was not assigned and plentiful as opposed to when it was the Waterfront at Pu'uloa where parking was assigned. The beach itself is beautiful. The sand consistency in my opinion is "hard and rough." Nothing like that of Kailua or Nalo. It's a sight to behold seeing the incoming planes land at nearby Honolulu Airport and at times I wonder if the occupants in the planes can see us frolicking on the beach. It is quite HOT here! Like one yelper reviewed, there is very little shade other than the cabanas and Tiki shades...so lather up the sunscreen and re-apply often, it's easy to get a sunburn when you're having fun. I did notice dogs on the beach and for a dog friendly beach it was pretty free of dog poop. WIN!!! No lifeguards on the beach but there is a ATV beach patrol that frequents the lagoons/beach area. Water is fairly calm within the lagoons but it's rocky and gets chest high deep pretty quickly. Love this beach!! Beautiful city and mountain views of Oahu and not a mass of humanity converging in one place.

It looks beautiful from pictures and at first glance but don't be fooled by that! The beach is located in a gated community and guest parking is a bit of a walk to the beach. Even though we were the only guests at this beach, they gave us the furthest parking spot and you can only park at the spot assigned to you. The more time we spent in this area, the more unsettled we felt. There are endless signs saying things you can't do (fish, feed feral cats, climb on coconut trees to name a few). It seems like they purposely make non residents feel unwelcomed at this beach. The sand was pretty coarse and the water was too mellow for the bf, who was hoping to use the boogie board to catch some waves. There are a few perks of the place. There are cabanas and chairs to lounge around. Hardly anyone was hanging around the beach and there are clean bathrooms to use. Its an ideal place if you're looking for a beach that is not overcrowded but there are so many beautiful beaches on the island so I will only give this 3 stars.

    Isn't pretty

Great view beautiful and relaxing How's the water? Strong current. I brought my son here but he not that good at swimming, so I wouldn't let him play near the shore break alone. Also there are a lot of pebbles so stepping into the water isn't that nice. Although it is nice to float around in the water People bring their dogs here too.

Clean, quite, and practically empty on a Saturday afternoon. Barbeques, tables (with umbrellas), even a volleyball net for you to use. Worth bringing the whole family down for a nice, relaxing day at the beach. Minus a star for the weird entrance. You have to go through their security "check point" as this beach is still owned by the navy (or something to that effect). Drivers must be able to provide a driver's license, car insurance and registration. All people in the car must also sign in. If you are bringing a dog they will assign you a specific portion of the beach, and parking stall.

This is a pretty nice beach. It's a public beach but it's tough to get access to it because you need to enter a gated community (Kapilina Beach Homes) to get there. Also, they only give out something like 23 passes a day. That's because they only have that many parking spots available for non-resident beach goers. They'll ticket or tow you if you don't park in the correct spot. I happen to be a resident so my review is based on my access to the beach. They have about 6 or so covered cabanas that are free to use by anyone, first come first serve. They also have beach umbrellas and chairs set out for use as well. They have a nice beach volleyball court too. There's a marked area of the beach for your dogs and trash cans to keep your area clean. Fronting the sandy area is a long section of grass that has picnic tables and BBQ's, again for everyone's use. They have a few nice restrooms and shower stations. They do have one huge outside pavilion but this one needs to be rented. The sand itself is a bit more coarse but not painful to the feet. They built "T" shaped break walls all the way down the beach front giving the keikis a nice calm area to play. They do have smaller waves that can be surfed but you'll need to paddle out a bit. Also good for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. Be careful for some shallow areas because the coral and rocks can be a bit sharp and you don't want to get a staph infection. A big reason to traverse the gated community to get here is because the beach is never crowed and a lot of times you can snag your own little break-wall area!

Three stars for 1) Hardly anyone ever here 2) Cool furniture 3) Easy, close, free parking. Otherwise, yikes! The sand here is rough. Very industrial, and the first thing I did was accidentally step on a shard of glass. The sand is full of rocks, sticks, and all manner of course objects to abuse your feet. And I hope you enjoy deep tread marks throughout, because the security drives their little beach buggies up and down so often it looks like a squadron of tanks rolled through. The water suffices as far as temperature and swimmability, but these lagoons are pretty useless for anything else. There are no waves anywhere, and the current makes for a mirky mess so diving or snorkeling in any of the areas is completely fruitless. One last point is the orientation of the beach. It's facing directly into the sun, and by that I mean there is NO relief. It's a pure ant-under-the-magnifying-glass experience which makes running or frisbee or any other sort of beachiness short lived. It's great to see all the recent renovations with the man-made lagoons and all, aesthetically, but the overall product is still lacking compared to pretty much every other area beach.

It's an awesome dog friendly beach that doesn't usually get crowded on the weekends. We take our chocolate lab there all the time for some fun in the sand and sun

This is probably one of my favorite beaches here! Great breeze, there isn't to many people! There isn't many people here and there is seating available. Volleyball, basketball , a lake , and a softball area. Keep in mind there is a gated community but others are welcome. Enjoy , I know I am !

Wonderful beach here. Lots of cabanas along the beach. The rocks in the beach is really rough if you fall off. Its low tide in December so the water isn't so high. For it being December out here it's still relatively warm compared to cali. The water is so warm. I love how theres not a lot of people. This is a private property so not a whole lot of people show up. Lots of bbq spots. You can see diamond head not to far from the beach. Waves were really choppy, it is a good place to go paddle boarding and beginning and surfing.

Woohoo! As good as it gets! A good beach to relax, read an ebook, listen to music. You might have to listen to music because of the planes flying overhead. Especially when fighter jets take off. The commercial aircraft aren't that loud. The beach needs to be combed for debris and the sand is eroding away. Otherwise since a lot of people don't want to drive that far it's not crowded. The wooden cabanas are nice. It's like something you'd expect at a hotel resort beach. Check my pictures yo! Check-in at the gate. Need driver's ID and car registration then just follow the road straight to the beach. They may turn the housing into Active Military Housing pretty soon and kicking out leaseholders.

In any case, this is not a beach that you happen to find as you explore the island. You have to WANT to come here and can be a PAIN to get to. First, it's located at the furthest end of Ewa Beach - a 40 minute drive from downtown Honolulu. Second, while it is technically a public beach, it is only accessible via a guarded/gated community (Kapilina Beach Homes), which means you need to show your driver's license, car registration and insurance at the security gate. Third, the area is patrolled by military police (as it is government land) who are not shy about pulling you over if you are not strictly following the road rules. Anyway, your best bet is to befriend someone who lives here. Then you can park close to the beach (versus visitor parking) and can have access to the other beach amenities (cabanas, beach chairs, umbrellas, bbq grills, etc.) The beach itself is quiet and uncrowded. Great view of the airport and Pearl Harbor so you can watch the planes come and go. The sand quality is pretty coarse - definitely not the best. Certain areas are dog friendly (on leash). Other areas allow fishing. Check out the D'lish snack bar for food, drink and live music (in the evenings). Pretty much a private beach for those living in the community and a hidden gem for the rest of the island.
