Warning: Be extra cautious when stepping on the sand. Apparently a guy in the tent next to us warned that his daughter almost stepped on a filet knife sticking straight out of the sand and he found metal sparklers sticking up as well....so much firework rubbish everywhere. Swear our party picked up more than a 100 of those long pink sparklers all over the sand. This beach is also known as Hau Bush. I wouldn't have known about it had I not been invited. It's a beautiful beach to pull up and go surfing. An Ewa local told me they cleared out all but one of the homeless peeps. As long as you float in the beginning, you should be fine. But stepping on those rocks in the shallow, ouch! Other than that, if you wanna tan, *cough*, get burnt, this is the spot lol. read more

Oneula Beach Park in Ewa Beach is a rare gem to find. It it away from the hustle and bustle of our island and just a nice beach to relax enjoy the sunset or the sounds of waves crashing. This is definitely a locals beach. It's nothing fancy in fact there is not even a bathroom anymore. But there is lots of parking and trash bins to save the environment. The sand is clean and the waves are forever. Locals love to fish and surf at this location and the sights are amazing. It does look like our city officials are planning something.....hopefully great here and I hope it doesn't interrupt the peacefulness of this special beach. read more

Condom package in sand. I don't even want to think about where the used condom was disposed of. Utterly disgusting! As for the beach it's pretty rocky. The surf was pretty rough today. Not sure if that is typical. Looks like the locals use it mostly for fishing, surfing, sunbathing, hanging out, and picnics or events. I don't recommend it for inexperienced swimmers or newbies learning to boogie board or surf. Also, there's a fair amount of trash around the area of the beach. Not as much on the beach itself. Some homeless camps. Not as many as were on Ewa Beach. Sending up prayers for them. read more

A locals spot for surf, fishing and chill'n in the Ewa Beach Area. One'ula is the official name. Those from the 76 South call this place Hau Bush. Da Hits: 1. Clean....well cleaner than it was 20 years ago. 2. You can enjoy the beach during the day and be safe. 3. Fishing- can! Pull up your truck. Just don't cast where the surfers are. 4. The view- Diamond Head and Waikiki. Beautiful skies around sunset. 5. Plenty of parking. 6. Not a crowded place to surf. Every time I go just a handful of surfers in the water. 7. Small south shore facing waves. Good for beginners. Real similar to next door White Plains beach. Near misses: 1. Not much shade. 2. Restroom facilities subpar. 3. People light up. Can smell it in the air. More than likely Medicinal type... wink wink. 4. Not the safest beach. The only time I seen cops here was during the last Hurricane. Watch some scraps every once in a while. Not a must see beach. I grew up swimming here so that's why I come here once in a while. read more

This area was very run down, littered with run down vehicles, tents and garbage. Not the "beach" you picture in Hawaii. Skip this if you're looking for a nice sunset. read more

If I had done this review three years ago it would have been a dismal one star review. Without prior warning we wandered towards this beach and found ourselves feeling fearful and unsafe. Mind you, despite having been a Hawaii resident for a cumulative 30 years there were still places that consider us outsiders. This was such a place. Fast forward a speedy three years later and this beach has improved in accessibility and "hospitality." Don't get me wrong, if you're a lone tourist wanting to venture off the beaten path, this is not the place to go. It's come a long way from three years ago but I would still veer on the side of SAFETY FIRST and just good old common sense. There are still what appears to be homeless encampments (fewer now than three years ago) and this still prevails as a "locals only" kind of beach. Like I said, much has changed in three years and the huge influx of development and people to the west side has influenced the infrastructure and feel for west Oahu (good and bad). The beach itself consist of rocky and small sandy shores sporadically throughout the coast. When the swells are not peaking the water is not such a bad place to frolic in however the bottom is quite rocky and smooth, sandy footings in the water is a rarity. I'm not a surfer but I'm guessing that it's a great place to surf based on the amount of people I see surfing. Three years ago there were many homeless and illicit drug use on site and for those reasons alone - I rarely walk on the beach without slippers for fear of getting poked by an unprotected needle (yes, the OCD in me is showing). Again, use common sense and always be aware of your surroundings here. It's an A-ok beach for me - I've been here many times now and I've found people really keep to their own. Respect the land and the people and no trouble will come your way (fingers crossed). This place is a mere eight minutes away from my house and on the best days you can watch the Honolulu city lights come on as the day fades away. Diamond Head and the city is within clear view and the hustle and bustle of town living is a world away. I wouldn't recommend staying here past sunset. There is an abundant of ongoing construction for the proposed Hoakalei harbor/lagoons and infrastructure for that area. Expect to see the area landscape to be changing and those changes influencing Oneula Beach Park's landscape, population and feel as well. read more

I'm not a local and I also agree with M.Ms review. I'm not sure if all the people here are homeless but it at least appears that they park and band together. There are a lot of vagrant homeless cats as well. My sister noticed the smell of urine right away, but I guess I didn't hone in on it as much since I'm used to the smell from living in multiple metro cities. We were only here briefly because we were trying to catch the sunset. We were right in front of our car so it wasn't really a chance for anyone to molest our car. It was a short walk over a short hill to the beach. The portion of the beach we were on was not combed or anything so you get to navigate around the rocks and logs and trash on the beach to the water. We also did not swim here. Obviously the waves were a bit hardcore for swimming. But there were plenty of people fishing and surfing though. There is also a baseball field nearby if you want to hit some balls. As mentioned there are no "services" so hold your #1's and #2 unless you wanna attempt the "Honey Bucket" where the door barely locks or do it in the bushes. I wouldn't suggest this beach for laying out or tanning or snorkeling or walking a dog for fear of possible infection or injury. But again...I'm not a local. Enter at your own risk. read more

However, there is a large amount of parking available, as well as trash cans, in order to preserve the environment. The beach is spotless, and the surf seems to go on forever. Oneula Beach Park, aka Haubush, is NOT a beach for tourists or anyone who does not speak or understand pidgin. There is a big homeless population out here. Theft level is high especially if you have a military sticker on your window or have a rental car. This is also NOT a place to learn to surf. The waves here are for advanced surfers and the locals will let you know. Not too friendly of a beach. There is trash in the park, and there have been reports of drug syringes laying on the beach. This beach is used for stoners and ICE (batu) addicts. My advice to you is don't come to Oneula Beach Park. There are better beaches in Waikiki. read more

Growing up in Ewa Beach years ago, Haubush was where my friends and I hung out in the water. I don't remember there being a homeless population/problem nor any drug activity, but what did I know, I was a kid and my priority in life was to have fun. So, heading out there today, I wished I had read M.M's review before I made the drive out to the end of Papipi Road because if I did, I would have bypassed checking this place out. Not that I ran into any problems because I can sling pidgin like the local boy I used to be, but because there are other beaches that are much nicer and friendlier than this one. Around the way, there are several - White Plains, Nimitz or you can even head around to Ko'olina. Anyway, follow M.M's advice - check out the other Leeward beaches if you're in the area. Leave Oneula for those who belong there. read more

I agree with the previous Yelpers concerns and I can vouch for their claims. Oneula Beach Park was swarming with homeless and questionable people. However, my most recent visit, the amount of homeless has decreased dramatically. The park is much safer and cleaner. This may be due to the developer adjacent to the park is developing the area and therefore generating more activity in the area. In addition there is a new road that connects Papipi Road to the park. Most townies, including myself have never been to this beach previously. I think this is one of the best kept secret on the island. You have beautiful untainted beach, along with gentle rolling waves. It is a hidden gem, with NO TOURIST!!!! Lastly, unreal view of Diamond head and Honolulu. read more

If you're looking for a fishing spot, this is the most convenient. You can drive right up to the spot of your choice and don't have to drag your belongings anywhere. It never closes and there are no gates, so night fishing is an option. The fish are out there, along with turtles, eels, balloon fish, and sharks. Last weekendsomeone brought in a 9 foot hammerhead shark. Yikes!!! If you're looking for swimming, there's a lot of reef and coral. A lot of surfers frequent this spot though. Homeless encounters are likely especially near the trees where they set up their tents. Watch out for the glass. Drinking is common and some just throw their bottles. Trash is also common. The beach isn't maintained and it's up to users to pick up after themselves. And....no bathrooms. The aroma of marijuana is frequently present when teenagers are near. With limited enforcement, it happens. It's potentially a nice place, but it isn't taken care of by the people who go there. read more

Yes there's homeless people living there but as long as you don't bother them, they won't bother you. Neil's been here before to go fishing but it's my first time here. A good spot to go play a ball game or take the dogs, but not very suitable as far as beach purposes go. Even though this beach was recently cleared by a local foundation, it is still jammed with homeless and all the odors and drug use that comes with it. A urine stench prevails in most areas, and currently the "facilities" entails a single portal potty. There's also no real swimming spots - as there's a ton of reef and rock. Even if you can get out to the breakers, it's not the best surf. As the saying goes, "Neva nevah surf in Ewa." read more

First rule of the island.....Be respectful. Very local beach , great spot I came across when exploring Ewa. I take my 18 month old down there all the time and we love it. Homeless are living there, but not sure how that even needs mentioning. If you are not a idiot and came to appreciate the view then you can fit in. If you have no manners or no clue how to conduct yourself..... Please do us all a favor and keep driving right into the said Ocean. Give Aloha then Aloha comes back to you. Learned to love this beach. Pros: *nice waves for surfing, but you can also paddle board here *can drink my beer in peace *great beach to run to and along the path north towards Barber's Point *no one knows about this place unless you live there, so it's not packed (unless there are big waves in which case the whole city of Ewa Beach is there) Cons: Yes, people "live" here. But they don't bother you. I run at this beach all the time and watch the sunset every night when I'm in town and I have never felt fearful. And I'm not a local (yet). As long as you act like you're supposed to be there you'll be fine. With all the development that has happened in the area and about to happen I have a feeling this beach may be getting a makeover soon. While it would be nice to see that happen, that would mean more people coming to that area which I really don't want. I love the local feel. read more

It's an okay beach, but it's a bit hard to find and locate, plus there was on-going construction when going here in Spring 2013. There are some homeless people that hang out here. Although I do enjoy the sound and sight of ocean waves, it can be a bit creepy at times with the aforementioned things. read more

Haubush is a great spot to come surfing for the youngins, and avid surfers. Today was a bit rough, but the waves weren't too bad. The winds made things a bit chilly. We came here today because the west side got some rain and the waves weren't as abundant where we were. A friend of mine was surfing out here a while back and as she was surfing a tiger shark as long as her longboard came beside her, so I guess there are sharks out this way from time to time. Nonetheless, we love this beach for surfing. It is very beautiful here, and an awesome spot for fishing and family parties. There are homeless who live out there, but they are pretty nice and don't bother any one. They don't have bathrooms that are very clean (there were porta potties) so I suggest making sure you go before coming out here. We had a blast today. We will be back soon read more

The people here are friendly. If you can't surf don't try to learn here. There are some bad ass surfers from here but everyone shares. As long as you wait your turn, show respect then you will get your turn. Great place to bring your dogs read more
