I'm not a local and I also agree with M.Ms review. I'm not sure if all the people here are homeless but it at least appears that they park and band together. There are a lot of vagrant homeless cats as well. My sister noticed the smell of urine right away, but I guess I didn't hone in on it as much since I'm used to the smell from living in multiple metro cities. We were only here briefly because we were trying to catch the sunset. We were right in front of our car so it wasn't really a chance for anyone to molest our car. It was a short walk over a short hill to the beach. The portion of the beach we were on was not combed or anything so you get to navigate around the rocks and logs and trash on the beach to the water. We also did not swim here. Obviously the waves were a bit hardcore for swimming. But there were plenty of people fishing and surfing though. There is also a baseball field nearby if you want to hit some balls. As mentioned there are no "services" so hold your #1's and #2 unless you wanna attempt the "Honey Bucket" where the door barely locks or do it in the bushes. I wouldn't suggest this beach for laying out or tanning or snorkeling or walking a dog for fear of possible infection or injury. But again...I'm not a local. Enter at your own risk.

I agree with the previous Yelpers concerns and I can vouch for their claims. Oneula Beach Park was swarming with homeless and questionable people. However, my most recent visit, the amount of homeless has decreased dramatically. The park is much safer and cleaner. This may be due to the developer adjacent to the park is developing the area and therefore generating more activity in the area. In addition there is a new road that connects Papipi Road to the park. Most townies, including myself have never been to this beach previously. I think this is one of the best kept secret on the island. You have beautiful untainted beach, along with gentle rolling waves. It is a hidden gem, with NO TOURIST!!!! Lastly, unreal view of Diamond head and Honolulu.

If you're looking for a fishing spot, this is the most convenient. You can drive right up to the spot of your choice and don't have to drag your belongings anywhere. It never closes and there are no gates, so night fishing is an option. The fish are out there, along with turtles, eels, balloon fish, and sharks. Last weekendsomeone brought in a 9 foot hammerhead shark. Yikes!!! If you're looking for swimming, there's a lot of reef and coral. A lot of surfers frequent this spot though. Homeless encounters are likely especially near the trees where they set up their tents. Watch out for the glass. Drinking is common and some just throw their bottles. Trash is also common. The beach isn't maintained and it's up to users to pick up after themselves. And....no bathrooms. The aroma of marijuana is frequently present when teenagers are near. With limited enforcement, it happens. It's potentially a nice place, but it isn't taken care of by the people who go there.

Yes there's homeless people living there but as long as you don't bother them, they won't bother you. Neil's been here before to go fishing but it's my first time here. Nice undeveloped stretch of sand. Water looked calm when we went but the wind was too chilly to go into the water. Let neil fish and drink with his boys, I'll sit back and watch the waves. Nothing beats friends, beer, BBQ and fishing...

First rule of the island.....Be respectful. Very local beach , great spot I came across when exploring Ewa. I take my 18 month old down there all the time and we love it. Homeless are living there, but not sure how that even needs mentioning. If you are not a idiot and came to appreciate the view then you can fit in. If you have no manners or no clue how to conduct yourself..... Please do us all a favor and keep driving right into the said Ocean. Give Aloha then Aloha comes back to you. Learned this in the few short months I have been here.

    The beach. God's creation!

It's a homeless camp at this point, it's very dirty. The road getting in is really beat up and neglected.

Ask the Community - Oneula Beach Park

What are the hours that the park is open ? Is it ok to fish overnight?

Aloha Howard. Yes, the park is closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly (which is the most common closure hours for City parks). You can still traverse the park to access the ocean and to fish at that time, but the parking lot and bathrooms are closed.… Read more

This is exactly what happened to me! As we turned the corner bend, "Whoaaaaa this park is spacious and the playground is colorful"! Need to say both me and my son was super excited to check it out! 1) This is Park has its own lot. No need to worry about Parking on the street like most. There are ample parking. 2) Restroom is not your typical Park Restroom! From the outside is a small building on the right side of the playground. The Women's Restroom is very clean inside with 2 stalls (1 small / 1 large) and the best part it has *Baby Changing Station*, *Seat Covers* & *Soap Dispenser*! If you need to bring your baby in a stroller, no need to worry about getting the wheels dirty and wet. 3) Can't say enough how the colors really brightens the mood and has my son excited to play! It's safe for ages 3+ and with a fun challenge in the middle to get their mind stimulated. 4) Here's a fun twist, on the left side there's a Fitness Equipment Area. It's super convenient to incorporate a quick workout while your keiki play at the playground (of course, if they're old enough to play without assistance). Either way, there's playing space for both parents and keiki! 5) If you're an Ohana with a Family Dog, there's also a fenced off Doggy Area to the far left! I haven't been inside, but from the outside it looks quite roomy for the doggies to run around. 6) Alongside with the great variety of choices, there's a large field of grass! Perfect space to have practices, large groups to workout, let the keiki run around loose, and even kite flying! As large as this park is, you may want to bring an umbrella or baby tent for shade as there's not really anywhere to relax other than a tree in the back or near the restrooms. Upside, there's 3 tables if you want to kau kau as well! Hoalauna Community Park hits all the aspects you'd want for everyone! Let me tell you, it's a "ONE STOP SHOP"!

What more can you ask for in a community park?…read more Hoalauna provides something for everyone in your family, no matter their age! Your fur babies, too! 2 dog parks, multiple exercise equipments, playground for your little ones, picnic tables for you parents and kupuna's, an entire 30+ space parking lot, CLEAN restrooms; need I say more? There is also a ginormous grassy area that can be great to let your little ones one freely without getting too close to the road. One downside to the park; there isn't much shade. Aside from the minimal tree shade, and the shade from the umbrella partially covering the playground, there's not much to work with. Fixable by bringing your own umbrella (: We love this park! Mahalo to the previous yelper who mentioned that they allow parties here (with a permit). I'll definitely be looking into that for future events!

Gentry Community Park sits a lone structure that houses an outdoor lap pool and party pavillions. Having a community center like this is a huge plus because here in Hawaii there is no such thing as a "small party." There are two pavilions available for rental: LARGE PAVILION: - maximum capacity is 88 people - that provides 16 tables and seating for 88 people - damage deposit check of $275.000 - rental fee with pool access for $375.00 - rental fee without pool access $275.00 - minimum time to rent pavilion is 5 hours - additional hourly rate if your event surpasses 5 hours is $55.00/hr - additional hourly rate for pool time if your event surpasses 5 hours is $25.00/hr - FULL KITCHEN AVAILABLE ON PREMISE SMALL PAVILION: - maximum capacity is 39 people - that provides 8 tables and 39 chairs - damage deposit check of $175.00 - rental fee with pool access for $275.00 - rental fee without pool access is $175.00 - minimum time to rent pavilion is 5 hours - additional hourly rate if your event surpasses 5 hours is $35.00/hr - additional hourly rate for pool time if your event surpasses 5 hours is $25.00 - NO KITCHEN AVAILABLE FOR SMALL PAVILION Also note there there NO LIFEGUARDS OR ATTENDANTS ON DUTY TO PROVIDE SUPERVISION. What I love about this place is that your guests can get as loud as they want because there is no immediate housing nearby that would complain of noise pollution. It's a great venue for parties that require more space than your home or perhaps something not the size of a banquet room at a hotel or country club. Perfect for the "small" local parties. There is tons of parking specific to this community center but also tons of available non-metered street parking. There is also a resident pool membership if your specific housing does not have a pool. The fee is an annual rate of $50.00 for head of household and $15.00 for each additional household member who is 7 years and older. There's a pool schedule that allots for open swims, swim clubs and lessons as well as overnight lap swims (it's an additional fee to have access to night swims). In my opinion, this is such a great asset to the growing Ewa plain community. The only downside is that this community center is that it's for all Ewa by Gentry (can't have just one if you're gonna build up the entire west side of Oahu). This is strictly a community center with no recreational equipment (like a gym or workout equipment).
