16 Acres Park in Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. I didn't know where 16 Acres Park was - even though I was born and raised on the Island of Oahu... lol! Why? Maybe because I hardly go to Mililani; my family doesn't live there; and I don't play soccer or basketball. Haha! I googled 16 Acres Park because I was supposed to meet someone there to pick up a gigantic prize package that I had won on Instagram. I gave them my phone number so they could text me when they arrived at the park after they finished work in Waialua. I used GPS to find Makaunulau Community Park (AKA 16 Acres Park) and parked near the restroom where there was a sign with the park's name. I texted a photo of the restroom to the contact person and they weren't familiar with this area of the park! I stated that there was no parking lot... and I saw a baseball diamond right in front of me and basketball courts far away. Eventually, she found me (I don't even know her name), and she helped me put all of the prizes in my car! But it will be a hassle to hold it and either walk to the bathroom across the park or simply drive there. I'm not fond of public restrooms so it's best to hold it til I get home. TMI, but let's be honest here. Those would be my plans..but for the kids sake, yikes! Playground is nice but located towards the corner with only a fence to block kiddos from running to the parking lot but definitely will not stop them from running on the road.. It could use some improvements: fenced off playground and a bathroom facility closer to the parking lot side. However, yes obviously parents should keep an eye on the kiddos at all times and not play the darn PoGo game. Nonetheless, my family and I will always choose to frequent this park the most. Very spacious, ample parking, and a great place to teach my son how to ride a bike.

Earlier in the day it's not as bad, even with Zumba (8:00 on Saturdays). There's another small lot further down by the baseball fields. The indoor basketball court is in relatively decent shape. The bathrooms are "closed for renovations" but the ones in the multipurpose room (where Zumba is held) is open. It's strange coz you'd have to walk through the kitchen of sorts to get there. There are a few picnic tables outside the multipurpose rooms. There murals on the walls are faded but they must have been pretty cool in their day. Unfortunately there are leaks; must have rained overnight. The indoor basketball court is one of the better maintained areas in this park. 4 stars for indoor court, 3.5 stars overall from my couple of daytime visits and impression.

A huge beautiful park in Mililani Mauka…read more.. Mililani does have beautiful parks and this one is no different. It does have a tiny parking lot though with lots of street parking accessing this location is very easy. My only problem is the shading so if you plan to enjoy this park and need some shade it's probably not for you though it's hard not to get drawn in as the insanely huge grassy area does make you want to just stroll in to chill. There are basketball courts, baseball field and even a cute jungle gym, one that I actually took advantage to stretch and take in all the vitamin D, even though the park sits right beside the freeway being so vast all you really hear are the birds and not much else which makes it a great way to escape and enjoy a beautiful well kept park. Used toilet paper everywhere and no toilet paper on the rolls. There's no way anyone taking care of these bathrooms thinks that's acceptable. It's clearly not something that happened in a day or week either.

I also love this park because it's situated in a family friendly community and just a bike ride away from my house. One negative part is that it gets to scorching temperatures due to lack of trees near the tennis and basketball courts. The only shade you will find will be close to the fence. Another negative part is that there is no fence around the perimeter of the basketball court so please believe you'll have a fun time chasing your own ball.

I know that lots of places that kids frequent are prone to lots of germs and what not; and kids are notorious for getting sick. But I stopped bringing them here because everytime we did, they would get sick. But now just with a common cold or minor sick. They get really sick. My son once picked up some bacterial infection that carried in poop from an infected person that frequents medical facilities! Gross! It was not fun! And this is not an exaggeration, they were literally getting ill evwrytime we brought them to this park. I didn't realize it then, but check out other playgrounds, you'll notice that this one is pretty nasty compared to a lot of others. The trash cans are almost always full, the weeds get pretty horrendous, it's always loaded with flies, and you can always find piles of dog poop that people don't pick up in the grass. On another note, there are always tons of bigger kids frequenting this playground with no adult supervision, sitting around the jungle gym, making it harder for little ones to play. Anyway, after playground hopping with my two Littles, we've found so many more playgrounds that are better taken care of, cleaner, and friendlier. Never mind that this one happens to be most convenient for us, convenience is no longer a priority in our playground situation.

Just a small playground with updated kids equipment on a soft asphalt foundation. There's one picnic table/bench and a sign directing people to a trail head. I was looking for another place to walk with Sofie and while this park is beautifully manicured it's not a place to walk whether human or animal. Dogs are allowed, I'm assuming for a short game of fetch on the grass or on the hiking trail. I saw no signs displayed telling you your dog must be on a leash. There are nice restroom facilities that are clean and not abused. The entire park is well maintained. No homeless sleeping in cars as we see in most parks, no piles of belongings that go with them. The parking lot is small with perhaps ten spaces. A remarkable and pleasant place to perhaps enjoy a lunch or family dinner with small kids.

Likes: 1. no crowds on the weekdays. 2. Cleaned daily. Bathroom and park benches. 3. The view of Pearl Harbor, Ford Island, Arizona Memorial and the Mighty Mo. 4. Nice and quiet place to enjoy a plate lunch. Lots of good eats. Forty Niner Restaurant is just a short walk away. 5. Ample parking. I don't face any issue parking here. Other: 1. Like many parks in Hawaii please watch out for theft. Lock your cars and make sure valuables aren't in sight. Signs are posted.

Nothing was set up and every one we asked didn't know where field 1 was. Many parents and even coaches were in limbo as where to park, unload and wait. The first game we came to watch was finally set up one minute before game time. The second game 2 hours later had a mixup on fields and no team to challenge. What a mess. The lowest field is actually where we were supposed to be although we checked the middle and highest tiers too. For little kiddies the restroom facilities is a long walk up to the second level. So very glad the rest of the games except one were back at our regular home park where all 3 fields are on the same level: ground. Might be a good place to jog or walk and not sure if dogs are allowed but could be a spacious area to play frisbee or teach your kiddo to throw a football or to practice driving.

Convenient for families there are three separate level fields. Great for practicing sports or just spending time flying kites or racing toy cars. They also offer Zumba classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Karate on Monday and Fridays too I believe. Ample parking along the side street on the way up and the bottom and top parking lots. They also just repainted the lines so it's easier to park. My kids all play soccer here on Saturdays and we come here to exercise or cardboard slide down the hills. Nice getaway in the heart of salt lake.
