I stopped in for ice cream here during my birthday trip to Kingston. This location is downtown on the water and just a few steps down from the gelato place. The store was very cute and the staff behind the counter friendly. They have vanilla based flavours and chocolate based along with other items. I ordered what I believe was called the White Knight. It tasted milk chocolate with white chocolate pieces. I had been to Mio Gelato a few steps down, so of course your brain is going to compare. This place didn't have benches outside or anywhere to sit as the gelato place did, so I had to walk down to the water and find a place, but it was nice to sit in the little park area under the trees in the shade. The ice cream was good, but it did have a very slight 'freezer' taste at the beginning. The white chocolate chunks were very good. The service wasn't as friendly at this store as Mio. Just basic, but good enough. The ice cream taste is creamier than the gelato, so it's always nice to have something new and different on a different day. One of the better ice cream shops I've visited, and I would definitely stop in again to try another flavour. read more

As someone who likes Asian spices and flavours, I was immediately intrigued by White Mountain's Rajbhog ice cream. The menu described Rajbhog as a vanilla ice cream spiced with cardamom and laced with assorted nuts. As a lover of both those things, trying this was a must. Delightfully, the flavour delivered on what that description promised. The cardamom was fragrant and paired beautifully with a good ratio of nuts. If ice cream isn't your thing, White Mountain also offers fresh frozen yogurt they blend on the spot. We got a raspberry froyo, but saw numerous savvy customers ask for combinations of different fruits, which staff happily blended together, though combos weren't listed on the menu. We decided to give this ice cream store a try. Like other reviewers mentioned, you can't see the ice cream so I was a bit lost on trying to figure out which flavor I wanted. We had to rely on the staff to rattle off each ice cream flavor's ingredients. I eventually settled on the Vanilla White Mountain Mix which was vanilla-based ice cream with chocolate chunks, pecans and toffee pieces in a waffle cone. Death By Chocolate was the other choice with a chocolate based ice cream with chocolate swirls, chocolate chunks, and chocolate flakes. I thought the level of sweetness was perfect since I'm not a fan of cavity-inducing levels of sugar. I finished the whole thing and felt like it was a light treat. You could taste the freshness in the ice cream in it's pure, natural state with no fillers, emulsifiers, or artificial flavours. The outcome though is that the flavor is delicate. Buddy found this place online. Said the recommendations were good. Ambiance is pretty minimal. No issues. Decent. The staff at the counter serving is, looked unbelievably disinterested with a look that asked us... Order leave I don't care. Buddy ordered the cappuccino I think and I got the old fashioned chocolate. They don't have any dark chocolate. This had to do. In a waffle cone. Cappuccino wasn't bad. The chocolate quite a bit bland. The cone looked a bit skinny which I discovered was due to the server putting exactly one scoop on the top. It actually broke the waffle cone. I used the cone as a scoop to eat the ice cream. The entire cone was hollow. First time for everything. Unfortunate experience which I "hope" would have been caused by a server having an off day but doesn't change much. Would make a pass next visit to Kingston. read more

Killer Brownie was definitely delicious; it's their most popular flavour; rich and creamy without being overly sweet. Serving size is a bit small; large is not very large. Stopped into White Mountain while passing through Kingston, ON. White Mountain says their ice creams are all natural and homemade. I was sold! There were only a couple of people in line in front of us around 12PM on a Saturday so we only had to wait a couple of minutes to order. The menu had a lot of interesting ice cream flavour combinations along with frozen yogurt (we didn't try any) I picked Bee's Nest which was vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce swirled in with some cookie dough! My BF picked Cody's Cove which was vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, crackle and cashews. Both were delicious - creamy textures, a good ratio of toppings to ice cream and not too sweet. The prices are reasonable - we paid just under $10 for two single scoop cones (one waffle, one regular) that were big enough for sharing, but why share? :) read more

We decided to finally give White Mountain a try after walking by it for 3 years. Ordering was efficient during COVID, but the downside is you cannot see any of the flavours, only their names. We got a bee's nest on a cone, which was their most popular flavour. This was a very average ice cream. While we appreciate the nice course texture and crunchiness, the ice cream was much too sweet, leaving it difficult to appreciate the honey flavour. By too sweet, we mean we couldn't finish eating it without craving some water. (For context, we drink bubble tea with 30% sugar). The cone was a bit thin and too sweet as well, and could have been a bit denser and heartier to balance out the sweet ice cream. read more

The is really the only place one can get decent ice cream in Kingston now that the Ben and Jerry's bit the dust. A tough market given your summer business only last from May to October. Nevertheless, the ice cream here is great. A great chain representing Eastern Ontario. Convenient location right along the water in front of the park . White mountain has been the best ice cream place in town since I was a little kid and my visit this afternoon lived up to expectations. Walk in slowly so you can breath in the delicious smell of fresh waffle cones and then choose from the many homemade and delicious ice cream (or frozen yogurt) flavours. Counter service is efficient. My only complaint is the some of the flavours listed on the chalk board could use translation, since the ice cream is out of sight. I don't know about you, but I have no idea what something called Sir Lancelot might taste like. And what's the difference between caramel crunch and caramel climb? Since my mom has worked next door at Empire Life for as long as I can remember, she would always take us to White Mountain for a treat. Really good ice cream and frozen yoghurt. I usually go with frozen yoghurt because I don't know what half the ice cream flavors are. The names are on a board but there is no description for each flavor and you can't see what each one looks like. For the frozen yoghurt you can combine flavors. I usually go with the classic strawberry banana. I really like the banana frozen yoghurt because it doesn't taste sweet like candied bananas like some banana frozen yoghurts do. During the summer season the line can be hit or miss. It can be a reasonable wait or the wait can be out the door. The yogurt as well okay and not convinced it is home made as we watched the server open the plastic package just like every other yogurt place. My wife and I dropped into to enjoy an ice cream cone together on the 9th of September! We always drop in for a cone when we are down from Ottawa,(I am originally from Kingston, all my life) and have always enjoyed the ice cream treats here! But, this time, to my display, I ordered a waffle cone as did my wife, and after $12.37 investment, the cone was stale as you needed to chew it like bubble gum to finish it!! I can't believe no one has reviewed White Mountain yet! This is a must stop for ice cream. Not only is the ice cream good (there is a huge variety, and most of the flavours are filled with treats - which i love), but so is the frozen yogurt. However, what really sets this place apart is the homemade waffle cones - you can smell them on the street as you walk by - and if you are really lucky you can get fresh warm ones! In the summer the line stretches out onto the street. My only suggestion would be a list on the wall (or a little pamphlet) of what is in each kind of ice cream. With names like white knight, or sir lancelot you pretty much have to wait until you get to the counter and ask one of the servers to know what's in it (although the do divide the flavours on the board by chocolate base or vanilla base)!!! read more

This is actually the best ice cream on the planet, no joke. I've been visiting Kingston every year for the past 25 years, and have always made sure to make multiple stops at White Mountain while I'm there. There is huge variety in the ice cream with many different items mixed into the chocolate & vanilla (chocolate chips, fruits, mint chips, fudge, caramel, etc.). I'm from Kingston and enjoy going once in a while when I'm downtown. Good thing they came to the 21st century by finally allowing a debit machine in store. Biggest complaint would be the absolute lack of flavour descriptions. I waited 10 minutes longer because the person in front of me asked what was in each flavour- something that can be solved with a single sentence flavour description. The ice cream is held behind the counter so you can't even guess by looking at it. Finally point is that the washrooms and seating are not disability friendly. read more
