I've been scarfing White Castle sliders since I was a wee turd and my dad introduced me to their greasy oniony delectability when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Even now, if I am aware there is a WC in the vicinity, I will drive out of my way to grab a sack full. Of course, these days they are even better than in my childhood as they offer more alternatives than just slider or cheese slider. Gotta have that Double Jalapeño Burger doubled with crinkle Fries and soda, and savor them all the way home. True to form, while in Keyport, NJ, last weekend, I checked and discovered a White Castle not 6 miles away on Route 9. It was about 10 minutes away, and though it lengthened my home bound route, I was totally game. I found it (despite its tricky entrance driveway right off the highway), ordered my standard double double, and slowly indulged all the way back to Pennsylvania. By now, I know how to hold the cardboard sleeve it comes in so that I don't touch the burger and simply squeeze the holder enough to expose what my bite can handle. Easy and clean down to the last chomp. This was strictly drive through, so I can't comment on the inside of the building. However, service was prompt and professional, with a little bit of whimsy from the cashier who seemed to enjoy his job immensely. It's been 7-8 years since I've eaten at a White Castle, but with my Dad passing last week and it being his favorite place to cheat on a meal, I needed to stop. I rarely eat fast food anymore (and the feeling I had after eating this salty treat is why), but this was a tasty treat. I ordered a #1 (four sliders with cheese, fries, and a drink) and one fish sandwich with cheese. I couldn't wait and had to eat these while driving and damn they were tasty. On 1/25/22 about 2:35pm I needed to satisfy my crave. Got my food in under 2 minutes which was great. Once I sat at the only "clean" table, I was shocked at how filthy the dining room was! There were 6 tables that had food and drink residue on them and the floor under some tables and both banquets looked like they haven't been swept or mopped in a week! I was the only person there...why wouldn't the manager take a look around and have the staff clean?? What was even more disgusting were the HVAC registers in the ceiling. I couldn't imagine the last time they were cleaned and the air return cover was caked with layers of filth. If it took 40 minutes to get to it to make that would be ok, but it's been sitting somewhere. White Castle sounds good in my head but I know I would regret it after though because this stuff will glue you to the thunder bucket if you aint careful! White manna up in Jersey City is much better but White Castle is a lot of peoples guilty pleasure. I went with the #1 with onion rings. I also tried the chicken slider. The burger were amazing as expected. This is quintessential fast food where you can't just have one bite. The chicken slider was also surprisingly delicious as well. It was very meaty and honestly tasted like real chicken. Really liked this White Castle. Service was quick and prices were low. First of all, if you are going to White Castle you probably already know that it is a bad decision. You are going to feel bad after you ate it from the grease and from the guilt for such a terrible choice. That said, it is cheap and relatively fast. I say relatively fast, because do always end up waiting, but the whole reason the burgers are so thin and have holes in them is so they can cook in mere moments. This location is pretty standard. They redid the inside in the last decade and have one of those 9 million flavor fancy coke machines. However, I never seem to find a clean table and the trash cans are always full. One of the worst White Castle chains that I've ever been too. The people who worked there was nice but my family and I ordered around a dozen grilled chicken sliders. The chicken sliders tasted freezer burned and not fresh at all. Yes, I get that most people order the hamburgers so the grilled chicken patties are probably super frozen. But even after cooking them the chicken patties tasted disgusting. I thought this was only going to be a problem with the sliders, but we also ordered a sack of chicken rings, which also had the same problem! I responded to a craving tonight that comes but once in a while, and with good reason. I used the mobile app to place my order, which was really convenient because it remembers previous orders and lets you duplicate the order. So in a few finger taps, my order was in. I told them I'd pay at the window. I pulled up to the drive-thru and told them I'm here to pick up an online order. They said pull around and I did. That was the last friendly thing that was said to me the entire time. I realize these places are run by milenials, and often don't have a manager or 'shepherd' to teach them how to speak to people other than via Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook. The girl in the window let me sit there unacknowledged for a good 10 minutes. She argued loudly with someone in the back about some foul up, and finally a large Asian kid appeared in the window with my order. He held the bag with the same contempt a new parent holds a dirty diaper with, and thrust it out the window into my hands. He uttered not a single word and did not smile. The arguing chicky poo finally acknowledged me and said "have a good night." While they did get my order correct, their customer service was what I've come to expect from a bunch of socially awkward milenials that are only comfortable staring at a 3" screen and have little ability to recognize there is a customer, with needs, before them and that they are the ambassador to the restaurant. I usually get out of work around midnight, and it's real convenient that the big WC is always there with open arms to take my money and serve me fresh hot burgers at 1am. I once tried The Crave Case Challenge, which is eating all 30 burgers in a Crave Case in one sitting. I ended up eating only 20 burgers. I think I could've finished them all if I did it "head to head" against someone else, since I can be a pretty competitive person sometimes. Instead, I ate 20 while my wife sat across from me, eating her 3 lil burgers. I'm curious to hear if anyone knows of someone who ate all 30 in one sitting, how long it took them to eat all of it, and how long they spent on the toilet afterwards..lol. My favorite sides are the onion rings, chicken rings, and clam strips. The pulled pork sliders are surprisingly very tasty, too. I live about 2.5 hours from this white castle and hadn't had white castle burgers in at least 15 years, but while I was visiting a friend in the area I decided to swing by and get some burgers for my dad as a "thank you" for replacing my brakes. This white castle is super ghetto and my friend told me a horror story about how her dad got carjacked outside like 15 years ago so I opted to go through the drive through. They had a little turnstyle to collect the money/receive the food so you have no human contact. I got my dad an entire "crave case." The crave case is 30 burgers stacked in rows in a cardboard container that looks like a briefcase - it's amazing, truly. It's cheaper to by the burgers by "the sack" but come on, who doesn't want a briefcase full of neatly stacked burger pods! When I brought the burgers home to my dad, they made him happier than any other gift I've ever given him. Sad, but true. The next day my mom told me while he was eating them he made little towers out of the cardboard burger pods and was telling her stories about when he was a kid and his big sister would bribe him with white castle food.
