I witnessed another customer try to get her 20% discount for applying to the Michael's credit card. After completing the entire process and getting approve, the cashier told her "We don't honor that policy at this location." Lastly, they don't properly label prices. Beads labeled at $8- $10 on the display ring up at $11- $14 at checkout. This didn't happen once, but the last 6 times I visited this store. it's disappointing that for this being the only arts and crafts store in the area, after putting smaller stores out of busines, that they operate like this. On google the price hikes are blaming inflation and tariffs but Michael's charges $21 dollars for Ranger ink pads, when they are $14 at Ranger's own website.

They cater to all skill levels here, and even offer some great classes for different crafts (they update their website frequently). They are located right on Myrtle, by the expressway and several bus lines. It's a great area and more convenient to get to than I expected, even though there's no direct train. So I learned how to knit a plain rectangle about 10 years ago and had long since given up on ever learning to make anything beyond that - I couldn't read patterns, couldn't keep my knitting straight, and didn't understand why there were so many kinds of needles (where do they all go!?). I met and spoke with the owner of Cook's Arts & Crafts, Michelle, a couple of times before I went for it and asked for a lesson (check their website, lessons are very reasonably priced!). She was so fantastic, and talking to her inspired me to pick up knitting again. She took note of my budget and skill, quite accurately I might add. She looked at what materials I already owned and advised me on how I could proceed with that, never pressuring me to buy anything I didn't actually need. Michelle was a spectacular teacher- she was patient and showed everything to me slowly (because obviously I'm a slow person). She was also encouraging. Walking away, I really regret not doing it sooner! I'm looking forward to joining their social knitting meetups at the shop and around Queens- I really wish that more of these mom & pop shops were still around because you really cannot put a price tag on such stellar customer service.

So when the place is full or there's a lot of kids, it can be noisy. But it's too be expected. There's also a couple small dogs in the store. They keep to themselves. They had a decent selection of pottery to choose from. However, I think we wished there was a little more. We wanted to paint some of the marvel characters that we saw in a picture and also saw as a finished product on the shelf, but they were sold out. It's $8 to sit and then the price of the pottery on top of it. It's not cheap, but you're paying for the entertainment of it, the experience and memories, as well as, bringing home a one of a kind painted pottery. Additionally, there's a credit card fee if you pay with credit card. So I opted to pay in cash. Owners/staff are friendly. The staff offered suggestions on how to start painting (e.g. sketching out my design with a pencil first). But be patient, the owners have broken English. I reached out to A.R.T. and was in communication with Francisco (the owner) to rent out space for…read morean art camp I was holding. Unfortunately, my experience working with him was unprofessional and frustrating. A few examples: I was told that to be included in A.R.T's August calendar, they would need a confirmation and deposit by August 5th. I paid the deposit of $200 on July 31st and submitted my poster along with the blurb by Aug 4th. However, I wasn't included in their newsletter. I had to follow up a couple times by email and phone to remind them to add me to their website. When I visited his store for the first time, he told me I could stop by the store any time I wanted, but when I did stop by, to ask about the lack of signups for my class, he cut me off mid-sentence, made me wait for 15 minutes, and then sent me home without a resolution. I ended up losing $200 on my deposit, which he claims was nonrefundable, despite his not saying so upfront. I would advise anyone considering partnering with A.R.T. to make sure all terms are in writing before making a payment.
