This is a great small town cafe. The owner is awesome. Best breakfast. I love his pasta. Hodge is the best.

The seafood was fresh and the steaks were cooked perfectly and so tender. The atmosphere was lovely, although it was very full. Our server was delightful and attentive without being annoying. My only qualm were the prices- definitely more expensive, but also worth it!

The one star is definitely deserved and it goes to the ambiance which is beautiful comfortable and…read moreinviting. Unfortunately the ambiance is the only redeeming quality we found. One of the specials was a smoked salmon and dill dip I asked if it was served hot or cold and was told hot so I said we'd take it. Somehow we were served the spinach and artichoke dip; it was flavorless and piping hot but also cold in some spots as was the rest of the food. My fiancé ordered the porter house pork chop with the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut and it came with a salad. I ordered the Trust me which is all chefs choice. I told the waitress I was allergic to parsnips since I knew that was a vegetable option but didn't give any other parameters for my meal. My fiancés pork-chop was overcooked and dry the barbecue sauce was the only thing on our table the whole meal that had flavor. The chef prepared for me a sword fish over couscous in a béarnaise sauce. The first few bites of the fish were way over cooked and dry the last few bites were moist and cooked well the couscous was both crunchy (undercooked) as well as mushy (overcooked) neither the fish nor the couscous had any flavor which was very disappointing. Along with the fish was a petite sirloin which was very tough and dry and lacked any flavor; there was chimichuri sauce on the steak that definitely wasn't made correctly it was sweet and didn't taste at all like parsley. Under the steak was roasted broccoli and cauliflower which was also somehow overcooked but not cooked enough which seemed to be the theme of the evening. When the waitress asked how everything was I said fine because honestly I was so over it and had eaten a decent amount already since I was so hungry. Needless to say we won't be back.

If you're looking for a spot in Fargo that truly gets dietary needs, Brew Bird is a gem. As someone…read morewho appreciates solid gluten-free and dairy-free options (without feeling like I'm sacrificing flavor), this place absolutely delivered. The menu has several clearly marked GF/DF choices, and it's refreshing to see more than just a token salad. The fried chicken options especially stood out crispy, flavorful, and surprisingly light for being allergen-friendly. You can tell they've put thought into their ingredients rather than treating it like an afterthought. Vibes are cozy and casual with a fun local atmosphere -- perfect for a relaxed lunch or casual dinner. Service was friendly, helpful with answering ingredient questions, and didn't make dietary restrictions feel like an inconvenience (huge plus!).

I paid $20 (with a…read more15% tip) for three chicken strips, fries, and a drink, and it all got tossed when I got home. What I found most off putting was the tipping. You go to the front to order your meal, get your own fountain drink, and then are prompted to tip 15%, 20%, 25%, or 30%. Who thinks simply bringing food to a table is deserving of a 30% tip? Maybe some people feel that way, but it felt excessive for the level of service. Again, the staff were nice and I liked the atmosphere, but the price of subpar food combined with the tipping setup is enough to make me not want to go back.

The service of all the bartenders and wait staff was above and beyond 5 stars! I was seated where I could watch kitchen and I observed the 1 and only cook handle food without gloves (FDA recommends avoiding bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods) and boasted chicken is considered just that. There was a very bare simple menu so I ordered a cheeseburger and chips and he got the white chicken. I literally saw cook put the chicken in basket bare-handed and let my husband know that while he brought our order to window and I watch waitress bring over. My cheeseburger was well over-done as was the grilling of the bun which I ate some due to not having eaten and didn't want to wait longer, but the chicken was so overcooked that you could barely use fork to peel away a bite on the breast. When he finally got a bite, it was so dry that even dipping in ranch didn't help. The outside was very dark considered to other places we've gotten chicken from. Now, I was very impressed with the service compared to prior years at watermelon days, but the food was much better. I did see staff going back to try to help, so bonus stars for that. My husband did talk to owner who was very understanding and seems to really care about her bar and restaurant, and had 2 breasts remade but they ended up to be the same way unfortunately. Maybe for bigger crowds, have more people in kitchen the whole time so food is not overcooked for which should be discounted some to customers that do receive it that way. Next year we will eat at cafe or drive to Battle Lake before street dance.

The new owners are very friendly and my husband spoke favorably of the changes inside. (He picked up the order.) Said it would be a really nice place to watch a game, etc. As to the food. The chicken was very moist and hot, but for us it was disappointing as to taste. A little bland for us. We kind of felt the same way about the potatoes. The coleslaw was fine but nothing special. Chicken places are a dime a dozen in the area and there are others that we prefer. But I could also see why this option would be preferable to some people. We still intend to try the place again and try some other things on the menu and perhaps watch a game.
